2013 Huron League Predictions

Well let’s do this again. I make picks every year and usually do a pretty decent job. Milan made me look foolish two years in a row. Last season I picked them to tank and they won the league which all the Milan fans ripped me for. Two seasons ago I picked them to do well and they tanked but nobody from Milan said a word. Human nature I suppose. I’m sure I’ll miss on a team somewhere but I shall give it a shot.

1. SMCC

2. Riverview

2. Grosse Ile

4. Huron

4. Milan

6. Airport

7. Jefferson

8. Flat Rock

Yea, that pretty much looks like a cop out on my part but the only thing that I am sure of is that SMCC will win the league but may end up with a loss and Flat Rock will finish 8th. Every other team is probably capable of beating each other. Why? Well here are some thoughts. SMCC has tradition, talent and the best coach in the league. GI looks like they may have depth issues but that is par for the course. Riverview has two speedy backs but set a school record for points given up in a season last year. Huron has their best team in years but may have problems overcoming the loss of two of their best defensive players. Milan has a nice senior class but only has a roster of 26. Not having JV last season hurt their depth. Airport has talent although most likely less than last season and may struggle after another head coaching change. Jefferson has a big roster and may possibly benefit from their first offensive change in four or five decades. Flat Rock just isn’t big enough to compete in the rugged Huron League.

Most Friday nights are going to be fun this season. There should be some great games. Jefferson may possibly be the team that surprises everyone this season.

Look for my players to watch section tomorrow along with game predictions on Tuesday and Wednesday.

  1. GI had Frysinger in 1995 (went on to start for UofM). USA Today pegged him in the top 100 in the nation. Coach Sanderson (SMCC) preached "team". As a member of the team, we prevailed. The top player doesn't always prevail. Not saying SMCC will win…just saying let's see how things play out. Should be a hard-fought game.

  2. "of course it doesnt add up"

You assume that I am to assume that you didnt give it great thought? hahha

You are just one game off is all. But so you know the league cannot finish as you predicted.

  3. Of course it doesn't add up. I basically just couldn't pick a couple of games. The league champ probably doesn't lose a game or maybe it is a three way tie at 6-1. I think everyone gets the gist of it though. It's going to be a tough competitive league.

  4. unless you have the winner of the league going 5-2… or the 2 bottom teams both going 0-7, your math doesnt add up Chris.

  5. I did say SMCC will probably have a loss. I just don't think it will be GI that beats them. Figure that one out! I think what separates the Falcons from the league is that they will only finish with one loss at the most. I think everyone else ends up with two or more.

Nobody is a bigger fan of Mitroka than myself except maybe John Bodner (Duh!) I don't think GI will have what it takes defensively to win the league. I do think that the freshman Moores will be a beast for the Red Devils.

  6. I dont disagree or agree fully with your reasoning just your picks. Why do you think it is a given CC takes the league? I believe you they have the best "team" but the best player is on GI and he is surrounded by a very good team. Ive seen ALL of the teams (not counting transfers) and would go as far as to say he is BY FAR the best offensive player the league has seen in a long time. Ive been watching huron league ball forever and that kid destroyed everyone as a frosh and did pretty much the same thing as last year as a soph. He is a beast so in a league like ours the best player surrounded by a good team and solid coaching SHOULD come out on top….. Why are you so sure they will beat GI? Is is purely the home field advantage? If so Ill let ya take the easy way out but I just think GI and Huron are in one of those "WOW" years and the easy CC choice shouldnt be allowed.
