  1. I would like to see scores and standings for both JV and Freshman football and think others would too. After all, it provide MORE football discussion!!! At the same time, this is a Varsity blog and commentary should focus on Varsity Football. Looking forward to the season, keep your opinions, stats and facts coming everyone! Oh and uh, agree with the prediction, except Riverview will end up in the lower half of the standings.

  2. I wouldn't be so hasty about some of the incoming freshman this year. Hampton of Flat Rock was impressive last year in rec play. He's fast and has great hands, possibly a varsity pic this year. Moores of GI is impressive in both speed and size. Our team kept a close eye on him last year. Nobody was able to catch him. 5 TD in our game, 1 was picked in our zone for a 102 yard TD.

  3. I agree with June 29@3:16 only ALL schools should report in with their "all-stars" and Watch lists. It helps us all follow the players better. Also maybe a Huron League Freshman watchlist would be interesting.

  4. Who do you guys think will be the big players from SMCC, Airport and GI this year. They had some good juniors that are returning this year. There should be some great football this season.

  5. SMCC will be solid, although losing Levi Eddings will be huge. GI will win the league behind Mitroka, McCarty, and Volmerhausen in the backfield, Ramone Stewart, Max Gilliam, Brandon Moskall, and Phil Camilleri are going to be dominate in the front 7. Expect at least 2 or 3 of those guys mentioned to be D3-4 ALL-STATE this season.

  6. Grosse Ile will have it's undefeated JV team of two years ago. They should win outright. SMCC will be tough at home, SMCC and GI share some camaraderie and some rivalry as SMCC has two former GI players in John Lako and Ian Paige. GI will want it more.

  7. How is that a dumb comment? they have nothing else that is proven? If you've lived under a rock for the past 40 years i'll let you in on a little secret..JV records and success mean NOTHING

  8. "They have McCormick Bernard and King back..nothing else really". Sorry but that's a dumb comment. Milan lost way more than Airport, plus Airport has alot of talent from JV moving up. Riverview will be a contender if they play defense.

  9. I think his predictions are solid at this point.

Both Airport and CC have very good Jr classes to be along with key seniors at key spots. ALL the other schools have very poor JR classes to be.
I could see GI maybe dropping a spot if they sustain an injury or 2 of consequence. Depth will be a problem there.

  10. I don't get the love for Airport or GI love? Airport lost a ton of kids. They have McCormick Bernard and King back..nothing else really.
GI has QB and Mccarty along with a few lineman. Losing Christian and Nelly was huge.
Riverview should win the league. Milan will be close

  11. Why Jefferson so low, and Airport so High? Airport lost a ton. Milan will be better than Airport. Riv could win it. Why is everyone so high on GI? they have a good QB, that's it really. FR was 4-5 last, they could make some noise.Huron could make the playoffs again with their talent.

  12. "Hard work is what turned a 1-8 season into a 10-1 season"

so if you dont have a good record its because you didnt work hard?

  13. The losses at Milan are significant, but increased participation and hard work will keep them as contenders in the Huron League. Hard work is what turned a 1-8 season into a 10-1 season. Look for the offense to keep rolling on with Kanitz and a solid receiving corps, but expect some issues on defense as only three starters return from last season. Expect a couple of new names emerge as impact players for the Big Reds in the 2013 campaign. The Big Reds are looking at a 8-1 or 7-2 finish, with losses to either GI or CC.

    Go Big Reds!

  14. Milan will have to overcome some significant losses on the O and D line. Look for them to become more pass heavy as all receivers (Smith, Miller, Phifer) and the H back (Hoover) return. And Kanitz at QB.

  15. Loads of players not returning for Milan has them slotted 5th. Arthur Dukes III, Justin Aceves, Ben Fick, DJ Griffin, Blaine LeClair, Ty Peterson, Bruce Elliot, Matt Neuwirth and Jeremy Richards. Throw in no JV team and it may be a long season.

  16. Coach Lessner passed away, unfortunately, in 2007. He was a great coach and a great man. He is missed. I am sure he was doing the double take from Heaven :).

  17. What Milan showed last year is not a fluke they will be back again this year they are not going away that easy. To many key players retruning as in Robert Kanitz, Gage Smith, Cj Duffany, Steven Phifer, Jake Friese, Devin Miller, and new players will step it up to help out.

  18. Does GI come to Navarre this year? I think they do.

Will be interesting to see how Milan does. Was last year's apparent excellent coaching job just a one time deal or will they be in games they shouldnt be in and maybe pull off some surprising wins.

Looking forward to seeing how Jefferson lines up on the offensive side.

Airport will be good, but how good?

The team that can mess all this up is Riverview. Don Lesner must have did a double take when he saw the points RIV was giving up last year. Shore up the D and they could be a 7 win team.

  19. Can't argue with your picks. CC is loaded and GI and Airport will be solid. Riverview will go as far as its defense takes it. EM
