Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Congrats to Milan on their league championship.

Grosse Ile’s JV could beat their next opponent.

I won’t be at a game next week. I have my annual Men’s Wild Game Dinner at the Carleton VFW.

I like rivalry week but would like to see it in week 4 or 5.

Mitroka or Aceves?

Airport needs to win in week 9 to make the playoffs for the 14th consecutive season.

Jesse Hoskins is most certainly the Huron League Coach of the Year.

Start submitting your thoughts on all league teams including Players of the Year.

Flat Rock’s Mike Blosser did everything but sell popcorn against Huron. He probably would have if it would have been a home game for the Rams.

Biggest underachieving team?

  1. Same can be said about the public schools trying to recruit smcc kids. Fact is we have a ton of kids with alot of talent in this league at all the schools public or private and we are all proud to have them and watch some good football! Good Luck to all the teams tonight!

  2. Season went by fast, I am excited for all the lopsided state championship games. Something needs to be done about that, some instances the best teams play each other is districts.

  3. The state can't support the public school system as is. What would happen if their were no private schools? Could you imagine the mess then?

  4. They have done a lot of good things at SMCC, no doubt. That is good to hear. They also have overcome the fact they don't have their own sports complex. Mainly, my point was, if you try, you can obtain a good education at any of our county schools, plus have some of these other things that public schools have and there is no tuition involved.

  5. To the 9:01 poster —
I agree wholeheartedly with your point. I think that the whole thing boils down to how much the kid puts into the school, and also parental involvement in their kid’s studies. No, I am not talking about the parent screaming at the teacher every time their kid gets a bad grade; I am talking about the parent who enforces responsibility on the kid when he doesn’t do well. I think the money thing raises the stakes of the principles stated previously, but obviously these principles can be present no matter of the school. To the aging school/aging building thing, please go back and see your old school! They have put in a new chapel, cafeteria/multi-purpose room, and a new technology center! It’s pretty neat. They are starting up long distance learning and dual enrollment with MCCC. Sounds like they are catching up on that aspect with the public schools! And to the argument about the lack of a sports complex – where is the disadvantage? They have a place to practice and play for all of their teams.

  6. You get out of school what you put into it. SMCC is built on tradition. All schools in our area have a great education if you strive for it. SMCC has lower paid teachers than most of us, aging technology and an aging building. Plus they do not have a sports complex of their own. Lastly, it cost almost $8000 a year to go there. There are some great people there, I am friends with many, and I have lots of respect for the school. But many schools in our area are just as capable of giving a good education and having great kids. SMCC gets the cream of the crop with families who chose to pay and go there. Public schools have to take in all kids and do their best. That is reality.
There is something to say about making a bad kid good, as compared to making an already good kid better. I am one of few who have attended SMCC and went to public school. Been there, know both sides. Sorry so long, hope my boss isn't on here like that other guy.

  7. SMCC has nothing to offer ! Are you kidding me. Please offer my kids to go there. I would love for my kids to go there but financialy it cannot happen. First of all the education is better, bar none. You can say what you want but that is just a cold fact. Sports, they are normaly tops and this is why they recieve so much hate here because the rest of us are just jealous. I have the upmost respect for those kids and the cchool as a whole. My two kids go to Airport and honostly it is a joke from the top to the bottom. Lets be real here.

  8. In order to recruit, you must first have something to offer that the other schools do not. In SMCC's case I haven't found that thing yet.

  9. Thanks to all who voted for the AnnArbor.com "game of the week "coverage. Milan at Lincoln. Go Big RED MACHINE!!!!!! On to victory. Go BIG REDS!!!!!!!

  10. Chris I agree on the CC recruiting talk. There is no need for them to recruit. I'm assuming most of those kids live in Monroe and not one of them was recruited. If that was the case people don't you think they would have the best athletes in the county on the roster. I know if they offered my kid a top notch education to play football he'd be there.

    1. That's funny because I know a bunch of kids they have tried to recruit and were not successful. Their parents had no intention to jeopardize their kids future by allowing CC to recruit them. These kids are great athletes and if they were on one team they would be unstoppable. That in my book is cheating.

  11. Biggest underachieving team you ask? How about your Spartans, pathetic! They can't even line up to kick a field goal. They need Sims badly. Maxwell stinks, he has struggled badly. Maxwell looks like he hasnt improved since tossing two interceptions against MLK in 07 state title game (one of them for a score) I could not stop laughing. MSU deserves better.

    1. Well there you go. cc doesn't have near the competition Airport does in the playoffs……. ( and I mean cc because your so small)

  12. The recruiting thing is getting old. Most of those names are SMCC names of the past. Except LaPrad, his father was an excellent C/LB at Flat Rock that graduated with me in 1984.

  13. We're a small school, we don't recruit, we're loaded with talent coming up, we have the best coach, there's three big kids coming up from middle school to CC next year!!!! Enough already.

  14. As a non Airport or CC fan I have to laugh at these posts. Who is Airport ? They have not won anything in the playoffs. Who do you think you are ? The funny thing is you are a much bigger school talking trash to a much smaller school ( who by the way kicked your tails, again ! ). Amother funny thing is that the future of Airpot football looks very grim. CC on the other hand has some teams stocked with serious talent coming up.Airport fans should concentrate on other things than running their flaps on the internet. For a program that has done nothing compared to a program that has accomplished everything, I just dont get it. I have been saying this for years now and I could just never understand why Airport was thought to have been good at any point. They never won nothing and they play against smaller schools. Bunch of fools !

    1. Airport is D2. SMCC is D5. Can't compare either when it comes to playoffs. And has SMCC qualified for playoffs 14 years in a row?? As for the future looking grim-JV only lost to CC this season. That's not all that grim kid.

  15. Grosse Ile has had their two best teams in a decade, cc has had its two worst, the result, two wins by a touchdown or less. Giarmo coaches circles around Bodner, so easy with the out-coached.

  16. Congrats to Milan on their league championship. : They won it outright. Props to them

Grosse Ile's JV could beat their next opponent. : GI should have a home field with a win this week.

I won't be at a game next week. I have my annual Men's Wild Game Dinner at the Carleton VFW.

I like rivalry week but would like to see it in week 4 or 5.: I think Rivalry week 8 is nice.

Mitroka or Aceves? :Mitroka, he is younger, will only keep getting better. More dual threat.

Airport needs to win in week 9 to make the playoffs for the 14th consecutive season. : Airport will not beat Tecumseh.

Jesse Hoskins is most certainly the Huron League Coach of the Year. : Absolutely

Start submitting your thoughts on all league teams including Players of the Year. Mitroka GI Dukes Milan Blosser FR Smith R

Flat Rock's Mike Blosser did everything but sell popcorn against Huron. He probably would have if it would have been a home game for the Rams. : Sad to see this kid go. 4 years playing varisty football in the HL along w knoch. Good players.

    Biggest underachieving team?
FR Should of beat Ida, that would at least give them a hope for playoffs. Fell apart in second half after a pick by GI. Didn't show up against CC. And lost a heartbreaker to Airport. Flat Rock will have its turn, Coach O just needs to be patient.

  17. What was the point of that 2009 repost? Airport is the biggest underachiever, favorite to start the year finished 4th and very well may miss the playoffs. Mitroka or Aceves: flip a coin, both are studs. EM

  18. Jesse Hoskins for coach of the year. Justin Aceves for offensive player of the year. Milan Big Reds at #49 Blaine LeClair for defensive player of the year. Really. Really. Open up your eyes.

  19. Yes CC you lost by 1 touchdown to GI but as I recall you were winning by 15-0 at the half. Nice try, he's right that a total second half collapse. Also, stop with the excuses please you sound like a guilty child.

  20. 6:38
If the logic of your comparison holds any water at all, you have to answer me this…
A)How did Airport do against GI?
B)Musta had a total team collapse or something, right?

Well the answer is easy and I can even use your own words…."You got beat up bro and outcoached".

Neither Air or CC are having seasons to write home about, but CC gave GI alot more of a game than Air did…collapse and all!!

    SITOFN

  21. Wow…Bro…CC had an inexperienced sophomore, JV player filling in on Varsity for an injured senior starting quarterback in the GI game, who by the way did a heck of a job…we lost by one touchdown…thats a total collapse…OK 🙂

  22. Why post that. What's the point. This blog is saturated with people that don't go to games or really know the players. Where is the good content?

  23. Congrats to Milan on their league championship: Well Done!

Grosse Ile's JV could beat their next opponent. ?? They play Allen Park.

I won't be at a game next week. I have my annual Men's Wild Game Dinner at the Carleton VFW. Enjoy, GI has an annual Wild Game Dinner fund raiser each year.

I like rivalry week but would like to see it in week 4 or 5. Totally agree.

Mitroka or Aceves? Aceves wins: he is a senior, Mitroka: Most potential

Airport needs to win in week 9 to make the playoffs for the 14th consecutive season. Hope they do. Like to see HL represent.

Jesse Hoskins is most certainly the Huron League Coach of the Year. Absolutely

Start submitting your thoughts on all league teams including Players of the Year. M. Blosser FL, Josh Smith RV, Arthur Dukes M, (Airport: cant find stats) Brian Christen: GI, J. Bailey H, also Dockter FR, Ross and Trombley GI, QB waiting for final stats.

Flat Rock's Mike Blosser did everything but sell popcorn against Huron. He probably would have if it would have been a home game for the Rams: He plays with heart.

Biggest underachieving team? Riverview, 966 students, a class A, school of choice school with three teams, F, JV, V. They should easily beat the smaller schools in the Huron League.

  24. Ya go for it. None of them were that well thought out. Just proves as Milan did again this year that we know nothing.

Airport you need the league to go 7-0 to have any shot of making the playoffs. Well I guess you can just go ahead and beat Tecumseh.

  25. All that to prove someone was wrong in their insight of a game! Really CC fan are you that full of yourself! If your going to mention the Airport win don't forget to mention your total team collapse in the second half of the GI game. You remember that one right? You got beat up bro and out coached! You want me now to post all those wrong blog comments you CC fans made that week!

heres a completely unbiased opinion…airport 34 smcc 14 and heres why. There are two different teams out there friday night, smcc has a program and coach that bases their offense on hard nosed line it up try and stop us offense, yes they try to be deceiving but they run primarily three plays, an inside trap, and inside the tackle lead, and a qb keep on the outside. Aiport has good coaches who put together a scouting report and practice durning this week without a ball or sometimes a small plastic ball when they're practicing defense. Point here is it is primarily assignment football, if you do your job and tackle everyone every play its an easy offense to stop. Easier said than done, but with no passing game and a very very small offensive line at CC it will be hard to push around a bigger faster airport defense that is used to playing this offense by now. On airports side they can throw, beat you physically up the middle and have speed to burn on the edges. Mays is hands down the best back in the league, Jones arguably the best QB and an offensice line that is bigger, stronger, and more physical the CC's front seven. Redmond at airport has probably watched CC game tapes 150 times and knows what will work and what wont. The thing that those past CC teams have had that this team does not is size up front, and that will be key and easy to see up front in this game, airport is just too well coached, talented and fast for the falcons this week. That why i say aiport 34 SMCC 14

something that needs to be said and i know that CC fans will hate it…but SMCC has been good throughout the years, winning leagues, districts, semi final and finals appearances…but this NOT the same type of team…period. Theres no more Giarmos, Marinos, Halls, or Rapps leading the way up front. Those teams werent unbeatable because there schemes, coaches, or backs were that good…they won because they had the biggest baddest line in the league and their backs werent getting touched til they were four yards downfield. Im not sure the exact numbers but their line this year probably averages around 190 not 250 or so with 300 pound bench presses. Look at the '06 CC team they were better flat out better, Bicy and Robinson were faster than any back they have this year, Lovell is a horse but so was Bellestri, difference was the line they had in front of them. Airport is bigger up front, will cause piles, have fast backers who hit and make tackles, and even faster Db's who wont allow big plays to happen. Last year SMCC had under 100 yards total offense in this game, and most of airports starters were juniors. People on here say if CC shows up, if CC knows how big this game is, if CC plays good they CAN win. Airport is the same way they know this could mean undefeated season, league champs, home playoff games, the whole nine yards. If CC doesnt show they could lose by 40 if they do it could be close…for a half. Once you see this offense at CC a few possessions it slows down, is easier to read, and you adjust to it. SMCC runs three play, airport over 100. Which one is easier to defend? One team can throw, one cannot, both can run but one is faster (airport), and both can tackle but one is bigger stronger faster (airport). Thats why airport will win this game, superior size and talent. SMCC is a good D6 team but cant beat one of the best D3 teams in the state. Jones, Mays, Close, Baker, Pluff and Draftz are too much for a CC team that doesnt measure up to years past. Airport 34 SMCC 12

I wonder if these people are still around… great insight! although they were dead wrong. SMCC won by 18.

  27. Mitroka and Aceves are both very good high school football players. A better comparison would be between Mitroka and Kanitz from Milan. They will be the top two returning QBs in the league. They both are excellent runners, although different runners, and capable throwers.

  28. Offensive player of the year. Grosse ile's offensive line, 307 rushing yard average per game, 7.6 yards per carry. Simply awesome!

  29. Justin Aceves all the way. Ace has worked hard all through the offseason, just like rest of the Milan guys. Coach Hoskins for coach of the year!!!
