  1. Yea, the QB and WR play is awful. I find it hard to believe that he is the best that they have at the position.

I don't understand the play calling. Every time they throw it is from the shot gun. They very rarely throw deep. There were at least 4 drops yesterday in the 1st half. Bell rushed 15 times in the 1st half at over 4 yards a clip and he only carries 4 times in the 2nd half?

I thought the defense played pretty well. I thought they would give up at least 20 points against ND. They need to be more aggressive at times to try and force a turnovers especially when the "O" is struggling.

At one point last night I threw up because I was so disgusted. I could have covered the TE.

  2. Kirk Cousins, Brian Hoyer, Drew Stanton, Jeff Smoker, Damon Dowdell, Ryan Van Dyke, Bill Burke, Dan Enos, Jim Miller, Bobby McAllister, Todd Schultz, Gus Ornstein…etc. They are all better than Andrew Maxwell, he is the worst D1 quarterback I have ever seen. He is a bum. Chris, are you disappointed with the awful spartans qb play. All of the wide receivers are garbage as well.

  3. Poor comparison. The Huron League doesn't have a Yale type school nor a MCCC.

4.0 at GI and a 32 ACT score is the same as a 4.0 at other schools and a 32 ACT. The key point is the ACT score.

Compare ACT scores of the top 10-20%.

  4. Scores schmores! You can get a good education anywhere if you want and your parents make it a priority in your life. Take the top 10-20% from each school and see what you find. The scores and GPA's will be almost the same.

  5. I couldn't find SMCC MEAP scores (private schools are not required to post them). However, I did find some other testing info and the ranking for 2011 on that site went GI, SMCC, Riverview, Huron then everyone else. I still don't like GI, but they must be doing something right there. Here is my source if anyone is curious:

    You know, I just can't support a Devil … I'm Catholic.

At this point in the season, I predict … a lot of good football to go. I think Huron and Flat Rock will upset some team. I think the final league standing will have at least two teams tied at the top. Any of you players reading all this stuff, ignore it and enjoy this time as one of the best times of your life.

  6. Kevin LaPrad, Justin LaPlante and Hunter Lizyness are going to SMCC next year. Other big kids (and growing) to watch are Dominic Flint and Cade Hayter.

We are sending a good deal of talent to Jefferson next year as well, but since I'd like to see them go to SMCC, I won't name them.

The Huron Jr. Football program will prove to be beneficial to Huron by the time these kids get up to the Varsity, and they aren't tackling the family dog. I know first hand that they have some good talent coming up … I won't name them either because I'd love to see them at SMCC too (for them to benefit from the school with the best academic MEAP scores in the region).

Glad to see my alma mater FR has its numbers up. They still play with heart there. This is a great league with great people at Milan, Jefferson and Airport. I've covered every team except Riverview and GI (I never liked those schools … nor did I like Carlson) LOL …

Chris, if you need to edit this, go ahead … I'm still laughing.

  7. The "on side" kick was a muffed ball. It was supposed to be a squib kick because Airport does have a potentially dangerous returner. Airport will gets back up from this game just like SMCC got back up from GI. This league is a fun place to follow HS football.

  8. There were definately words exchanged after the onside kick last night. Van Washenova went out to mid-field. Chris-do a poll on who would win the mid-field showdown? VanWash or Giarmo? Lol!

  9. There will be co-champions for the Huron League. My guess is SMCC and GI/Airport winner. I just can't believe in Milan yet.

  10. Sure its happened but it shouldn't happen when you're up by 30 plus points. Its out of respect that you just don't do it to the other team. For Giarmo to do that is kinda shocking. I played for Cisco and it never would've happened.

  11. As much as I want to say that Airport played bad I think SMCC played a great game. Very hard to stop. The offense looked great. Airport just isn't the team they were last year. Not much intensity from the team and the stands!! I could've fell asleep in the bleachers!

  12. It wasn't a onside kick he tried to line drive the ball and barely kicked the top of it. Onside kicked balls don't go 25 yards down the field. Time to get ready for next week's game.

  13. Offensively and defensively Milan is solid. They have a very good kicker. Their receivers are catching the ball. They are not making mistakes. They force turnovers. Penalties are few. Coaches are making good calls and inspiring the team to play to a higher level.

From seeing how Milan played against Grosse Ile, it looks like they do have the toughness that it will take to win the league. Of course, the huge SMCC game will determine if they keep the inside track.

  14. Wow, your really testing my memory. I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday but here goes.

2009 Airport @ Huron I believe the Jets were up 53-twentysome and attempted an onside kick.

2008 Flat Rock @ Airport The Jets had 50 on the board in the 4th and onside kicked. Coach P said something to the coaches and the only response was, "we have to work on it sometime".

The other one was a FR/Airport JV game. I know there were some word exchanged as well. That may have been 2010.

I believe it happened in 2004 as well when Zamuda was coaching FR. I was there for that game but can't remember details.

I can't get any more specific than that. I am getting pretty old. I'm not sure if there is anything wrong with doing it.

  15. Please elaborate on that Chris. Been watchin Air football for years. Never seen onside kicks with a 30 point lead. 7 or 14 point lead. They did it last week with a 14 point lead but Flat Rock had momentum

  16. I'm not sure about any onside kick because I wasn't there but they may have been a "what comes around goes around" moment. I have personally witnessed Airport kick onside in the 2nd half three times. Each time Airport was up at least four TD's.

  17. I am so appreciative of this blog. I am a proud Milan alum (2005), and glad to see Jesse succeeding in his second year as coach. I was hoping to get opinions of those who have seen Milan play, if they have what it takes to win the league this year.

  18. Some observations from the Air CC game.
Air is better than this. Why the funk? Are kids still affected by the coach situation?
O and D line was dominated by CC. As a result, running game non existant.
Air fans are the most lethargec in the league. Just sit there. CC fans on their feet. Why reserve seats for the band? They don't play other than halftime.
I saw a totally classless side to Giarmo last night. On side kick up 30 points..Pathetic!!

So I challenge the Airport AD to do his job and energize the entire football experience. Get the band in to it. Get the players on the sidelines clapping and cheering on their teamates. Been this way for years.

  19. If Jefferson can win or even put up a fight we can get more of the cyo kids. The ones we r getting r starting, great program.

  20. Ancient Chinese secret young one.

The summaries won't happen. As much as I enjoyed doing them. I enjoyed my one weisbier and take-home growler from the gravity brewery in Milan much better.

I appreciate the compliment and visitors. Traffic last night was as high as ever.

By the way, I enjoyed the game in Milan. Thanks to those of you who said hi. Apparently my ugly mug and bulbus head is easy to spot.

  21. Chris how do you always have the scores before everyone else? I just wish you did game summaries this year then we could really get the early scoop.

  22. Pretty funny with CYO thing. Now were going back to 8th grade talking about how good CC will be. I have a 3yr old nephew who can do a mean tackle on the family dog. Wow, I'm sure coming up he will be a major impact in football. Right??
Come on. When will it end. Once again all teams have great kids at the lower levels and all will make an impact someday. Relax, no need to tell us all about it because its SMCC. Things change quickly.

  23. CC fans great win last night! But none of you ever answered my question, how did that second-half beat down on GI last week actuallty feel?

  24. good game for CC defense eddings # 30 2 big sacks and 50 Laplante BIG HIT at the end of the game.held airport twice in the red zone .

  25. I have been watching most of these teams and have been watching what talent is coming up to most of the schools. Airport will get some help next year and SMCC is building for the makings of maybe its best teams. The current JV and freshman teams are very good. I went down to Newport last weekend to watch my buddies grandson play and that ST. Charles team has three big studs in Laplant, Lizzyness ( spelling ? ) and Laprad that will just add to the crazy good team coach jack has coming up. I know you CC people have been spoiled with multiple trips to the state finals and are feeling blue with last years team. But dont worry with the talent coming up including the bigs from CYO this year the future looks very good. I just wish my Bears were rebuilding like CC is. Good things coming for SMCC. I just might have to buy me a SMCC hat !! Go Bears !

  26. I am not surprised with SMCC crushing Airport. Outside of Scott McCormick and the quarter back they just dont have any big time athletes. Looking at what SMCC has coming up with the current JV , Freshman and a core of stud kids from CYO in particular the three big kids from St. Charles I can see huge things from SMCC for the next four years for sure. Jack has to be licking his chops at the young talent that is loaded in his system right now. I hope the three big boys from St. Charles make thier way to SMCC ( I think the names are Laplantn, Lizzyness and Laprad ). I heard all three are going there. Good job to the Rams ! Much deserved win for the new coach. He has those kids playing hard. Whats going on with Jefferson ? Milan looks like they are going to be a force ! Airport has a good JV team coming up. This will make them better next year.

  27. Mr. Huron League Football Blog,
Great calls this week. You were pretty darn close on the scores except the Milan game. I think their team is shocking everyone outside of Milan. Great work.

    Huron League Fan

  28. Heard from a lot of people at Airport game parents and players very vicious on both sides. Whats up? Very unsportsmanlike out there, lots of yelling. Got to chill out, whether you expected to lose and end up winning or vice versa. Its about the kids, lets lead by example.

  29. Jefferson game hard to take, many coaching mistakes, talented kids losing games because of poor coaching. Wrong lineman on field for a critical extra point, 30 seconds to get plays in when driving to win game, mis-use of time outs, very unfortunate. Coach needs to think of the rest of us and the future, not himself. Great coaches know when its time, the time has passed.

  30. I'm sure we all know by now, teams play very different week to week. Congrtats to CC, they came prepared and Airport did not. Next week could be totally opposite. Wouldn't go bragging about next four years over 1 win, long way to go yet.

  31. Catholic central hats off to thee to your colors truly we will ever be firm and strong united are we rah rah rah rah rah for the falcon team!!!!

  32. Glad you made it out to the Milan game Chris. I'm glad we didn't disappoint. Great game. Personal foul at the end uncalled for, but I know they were frustrated. Everybody played hard.

  33. That school in the town of Monroe is getting ready to unload the hammer on the huron league for the nexy 4 years people, better step up your programs before it gets ugly!!

  34. They are frustrating however for fans. No doubt they work hard. Am just waiting for them to turn that program around. They seem to be close and then…

  35. OC is Tom Oestrike's nickname.

I enjoyed the Milan/GI game. Milan's stadium really is nice these days.

What's up with Huron? It's High School football. Great kids who work hard. Just like most schools.

  36. Airport suffered its worst home loss in a long time and it coulda been worse if Giarmo didn't call off the dogs early 4th. CC's Oline blew Airport off the ball all night and busted long run after long run. Airport could be in real trouble if they don't get things corrected quick! EM

  37. Don't understand the call on the two point. GIVE IT TO CURNETT. You rumble down the field with him the whole final drive. Reward the big fella!

  38. 21-14 Milan in a hard fought, down to the final minutes high school football game. Milan was in control 21-7 but Grosse Ile made it close with a 4Th quarter TD and drove to the 30. Milan stopped them on 4th down and ran out the clock. Milan passed well.

    1. Jefferson and everthing about the program is a joke!!! That's all I got to say. Need a change, when is the Cisco going to give respect to the people and retire. Enough is enough !!!
