  1. hey 9:34 poster, or poser…..I have coached football before, probably before you were born. Your obviously an smcc slappy who loves smcc and god and garmo. The reality is you should have won more games but didn't based on your outcomes. Your team WAS NOT creative enough. It's ok. I love how you think you have all the answers but if you have a real reality check, you would know that I'm right. Your probably some teacher slappy who thinks he can coach, but just wants the extra money during the year. Like I said, it's 2011, not 1962. GO G.I.

  2. To the 7:05 poster:
Wow if you have such a good philosophy and its that easy why don't you go get a coaching job? Oh wait, you can't/won't because it is not that easy.I coached for 20 years and your philosophy makes no sense. Just be creative? No each coach does what he can with who he has. Giarmo has done well with what he had except from this year. He went to state finals 2 years in a row. Let me see you do that. 90% of the people on this blog think they know more than the coaches and that they could do better, but everything that thinks and talks that way is wrong. It isn't an easy thing to do. So take your "be creative" system somewhere else. Congrats to GI by the way. Way to represent the Huron League.

  3. Note to all Huron League smaller schools. Quit trying to run the ball against these big class A schools, YOU CAN'T. And please don't mention smcc, cuz they recruit like all catholic schools do. This is 2011 …..Spread them out and make them cover you 1 on 1. Quit tryin to re-invent the wheel your old school approach is mind boggeling. I cannot believe that some of you still have coaching jobs??? Get Creative. You owe it to these high school players to give them a chance to win games. In reality..Garmo and Cisco SHOULD have won 3 or 4 more State titles had they been a little creative with their personnel and not so stuck in their ways. THIS IS 2011 PEOPLE!

  4. Most coaches reach out to their mentors and fellow leafue coaches come state title time. Trust me on this. If Bodner chooses to or not it really matters to me not. I just know I would not leave any stone unturned.

Giarmo has won 23 playoff games and 3 state semi games.

Stergelas has won 16 playoff games and 4 state semi games.

Cisco has won 9 playoff games and 1 state semi games.

Bodner has won 3 playoff games and zero state semi's.

Like I said no stone would be left unturned if I reached this point.
He owes it to the kids.

That is 48 playoff wins vs 3…. in just 3 Huron League coaches.

you can slam the League all you want but during these times, the league sticks together.

I saw Stergalas at GI's game against Douglass. I doubt he was there to see them lose.

  5. Bodner reaching out to Huron League coaches? WH?
SMCC? Lost 2 years in a row, because they have no plays beyond the 6 that they run and were arrogant enough to think they could win a title without a passing game at all?

Huron? 1 play off game in history?

RIverview? Did you see their playoff game against Chelsea?

Flat Rock? No playoff games in 20 years?

Jefferson? Too old to remember what he had for lunch today?

Airport? How many playoff games did their coach win?

Milan? Their coach won 1 agme all year.

So what abundance of Huron League coaches are thinking GI should reach out to?

  6. First off, great job GI, what a great win.
Second off, to all you non football know it alls, the league was way down this year. The worst it has been in many years, even if GI wins the national title and super bowl, the HURON LEAGUE SUCKED THIS YEAR. It was as bad as it has ever been…. PERIOD.

  7. It's nice to see all the positive energy around GI….the boys are delivering BIG TIME.

O and D will both need to be at there best this week.

O really hasn't hit on all cylinders in a while….running game (QB and RB's) has been solid but the passing game has not stretched the field since week 9.

D was great last week, (just 2 big plays, one was a ref gimmee) and will need to be big again for sure.

Vaulted Marine City….hogwash I say, GI wins this one going away as the O fires on all cylinders, Marine City won't be able to cover all the weapons, and the D has hit its stride…hungry for big hits and gang tackling, that taste doesn't just "go away".

Unlike last week, I feel a scoring orgy in this one……GI to FORD FIELD BOYS!!!!!! Whodathunkit?

Bring your camera's Chnl 7, it's gonna be fun.

    SITOFN

  8. Come on Craig M… it's not that bad. Thanks for the support and thanks to all of the other huron league teams/fans that are supporting GI in it's playoff run.

    Go GI!!

  9. Marine City always has a good team…with Scarcelli his year they are extra tough. But man, their uniforms sure are ugly. lol

  10. Riverview lost with thier #3 rb and #2 fb. Wing back/db broke his hand in week 7, big loss for them. Cant beat good teams with your 2's playing the other teams ones. GI -hope they win it all!!!! Go huron league!!!

  11. I'm with you bn. However they did it they did it. they have won 3 games and everyone else around here has not. Congrats to G.I. and good luck on Sat. See ya Sat at Birmingham.

    cn

  12. You people do realize there are very few people posting. So when you use the term "all" you are referring to a few people.

At this point I'm just not sure why there is talk about the league being up or down, does it really matter?

GI has won 3 playoff games!! Any of you who don't think that is a major accomplishment just go talk to the schools in the SEC. Adrian, Chelsea, pioneer, saline, Huron, Bedford and ALL the rest havent won 3 playoff games in a single season in 40 years and counting.

Can't wait for Saturday myself. This will be the toughest game GI will play all year. It's the state semi's, shouldn't it be!?

  13. It's great that the nay sayers are still saying the league is down. Is it just because your team is not still playing? Is it because when you were playing you thought your team was better than any of the teams in the league this year? Grow up!

If I were you I would start to agrue that the whole state is down since Grosse Ile still playing and since they lost to Airport or Riverview they should not be winning now.

Come on Grosse Ile is playing very well now and they have all year. You should be supporting thier run though the playoffs and not bashing the league. You may say they are lucky wins. You are even saying Pennfield was lucky beating Sexton. I will bet you you have never seen either team play. Lansing was not that good compared to Pennfield and the better team won that series.

Isn't the game won on others mistakes? GI is taking advantage of them. Quit your whining and realize the league is as good as it's always been and that Grosse Ile does have a shot against Marine City even if they come in as the underdog.

  14. I love how all the smcc lovers think they are soooo great…. newsflash. You lost because you were 1 dementional. But you lost. Bodnar please don't reach out to any other Huron league coaches. Do it YOUR way. Good Luck GI….speed kills. Note to other huron league schools….please don't think too highly of yourselves, It's just a game of football.

  15. Manchester was the beneficiary of a week cascades league that season. They were average at best. Ecorse had some talent but lost three games that year prior to meeting SMCC. I have news for you too, Douglass was easily the most talented team that GI played this season and they won. The league is the league.

  16. its crazy that GI barely got by a team as bad as smcc and they are somehow still in the d4. And in response to chris saying smcc didnt play anyone good in their years till the semis..in 09 they beat #2 ranked manchester 48-6. 2010 they beat a solid ecorse team 41-14. The league is down, sorry. GI has gotten some crazy lucky breaks, although they have capitalized when they have gotten them. not to mention they had the perfect district draw, and pennfield beating sexton, is something that would have happened 1 in 20 times. We will see a legit measure of how good GI is when they play MC

  17. This league is comprised of teams that play in 4 different divisions come playoff time. luck of the draw can also be helpful as to who you play early in the playoffs. Hard to compare things with all the different factors.

GI finished 3rd in the league behind two good D3 teams and now are making a run in D4. Nothing all that surprising really.

As soon as I saw the region I knew GI had a real shot to win it as I stated on here.

  18. Crockett was 1-1 against MLK this year. Who cares about Allen Park or Wyandotte, the downriver league is GARBAGE.(pretty sure bedford handled their "big dogs" in the playoffs last season.)

Point is, It's MC vs GI. Good luck to GI, you guys are playing great football right now.

    j.w.

  19. Well let's think about this a bit. SMCC really didn't play anyone any good until the semis the last few years. Both times it was Constantine in the semis and to their credit SMCC won. Pennfield beat Constatntine and their still playing down in Division VII. GI beat an undefeated Pennfield team. Surely Airport and Riverview were beat by two teams with less than stellar records but they do play up in a league while Riverview and Airport play slightly down. Maybe the league is where it always is, a good solid competitive league. The league has gone 14-7 in the non-league this season. I have been the first to be critical of the league this season but hey GI is in the semis in D IV. How any people expected that out of the 3rd place finisher?

  20. GI's region was very winnable. Going to battle creek and winning was tough however. To me, GI winning a region doesn't say anything about the league. It says GI came together at the right time and is playing well.

  21. Believe me when I say GI will be a distinct underdog on Saturday. Embrace it though. Being the underdog can be a great thing. But those that say MC aren't all that because of their schedule are showing lack of knowledge. Marine city will be by far the best team you have faced and Anthony Scarcelli will be the best player.

I wonder if Bodner has called his fellow Huron league coaches for advice on how to handle the distractions that come with such a big game. I hope he reaches out.. Might make a difference.

Whatever the case, this is sure a far cry from 0-9 and the program is headed up from what I see.

Play together and make the league proud.

  22. Congrats to GI Players, Coaches, Parents and faithful.. Way to do the Huron League proud. I think its safe to say the leauge is NOT down this year. WTG…
    Keep it rolling.

  23. 10:02…

Crockett is good & Pontiac ND was undefeated. But I do think GI is in a much tougher league than Marine City. Could be a track meet next week.

  24. saying marine city hasn't played anybody is completely untrue. They just beat Detroit Crockett 15-7. Detroit Crockett beat Detroit Martin Luther King and look what they did to Wyandotte and Allen Park-NBH

  25. So is the HL down?
Third place team going to the state semis?
    was it…
    -luck?
    -bad refs?
    -bad play calling?
    -anything else?
Anyone wanna take the opportunity to pop the bubble?
Can the Monroe faithful FINALLY give the slightest bit of respect to GI?
Again, to those who think the HL is in the dumpster…what do you have to say?

  26. Like BC, MC hasn't lost…but like BC who has MC played? 2nd place team in their league has 3 losses. GI has played tougher teams all year.

  27. Way to be Devils! That was a great game of football today. You showed them that football IS a game of heart. Mentally, Marine City has got nothin on you!
