How about the Detroit Lions?
Best football rivalry in the league and why?
Flat Rock’s Colin Knoch is basically a guard playing fullback.
SMCC probably has a chance of making the playoffs if they can finish 5-4.
Which team has been the league biggest disappointment this season?
Riverview certainly has exceeded my expectations this season.
Who ends up the Offensive Player of the Year?
How about Defensive Player of the Year?
Does Riverview hate Grosse Ile because the best part of their “View” is the “Island”?
Michigan State or Michigan?
well, if you guys didnt know, aceves, the qb for milan had 298 passing yards against rverview, that has to mean something.
Has anyone kept stats on starting field position after Airport kicks off? Is there placekicker a senior? And who is he?
Airport without Schumake……not as good. GI without Kish……not as good. Riverview has three RB's that are equally fast and good but won't get them OPOY. Jefferson without Grancitelli or Bosonac may not win a game. So how will they decide most valuable to team or best stats? Who knows…….probably Schumake.
DPOY? stats or valuable to team….age old question.
Lions good team but face GB twice and just lost to one of the top NFC teams at present. Glad they're winning though.
Best rivalry: SMCC/Jefferson throw all records out anyone can win that game. They know each other well and play to each others strengths. That will change if Cisco retires.
SMCC playoff run is done, would have made it at 5-4. But did not deserve to be in. Nor to any other 5-4 teams. System needs to change.
Biggest disappointments: Milan, lots of talent not being used well.
Why don't more county schools play each other, that would eliminate the need to play teams far away or even out of state. Makes no sense!
Huron league schools will not get past districts this year. Teams are not very physical and competition in the league was weak.
In fact Monroe county schools in all will not get past districts. Would love to see someone make a run, but don't think it will happen. Hopefully if someone does all schools are behind them instead of hoping they'll lose.
I would like to congratulate the Jefferson Bears on an outstanding win tonight. Way to officially knock SMCC out of the playoffs. Even though you didn't have a good season, I am still proud of you guys.
SITOFN is just pissed that "AIR" took the Huron League Championship. So now he's desperate for attention and trying to get his pony boy Kish as OPOY. Wont happen island boy. Try stuffing kleenex in your mouth to stop all the hot "AIR" escaping.
EM…. Agreed that I or anyone associated with GI football would take a league title over accolades anyday. (Air kudo's…just don't slip up with Milan)
For the record; we're not D3 (so comparo's are silly) and the biggest game is tonite!!! I know AIR thinks they are, but not yet.
Beat VIEW baby, Colvin cup stays home!!
Resident GI blog homer: SITOFN
EM – We know Airport had the OPY last year. He deserved it. BTW… Where is he playing football at now?….
This year you have Shumake….. Sorry he doesn't quite have that next level of play that the OPY should have to even be considered to play at the next level…..
Ecorse would crush CC this year. They continue to get more athletic and bigger. Kyle Dinkins only continues to improve. He is a pretty good quarterback.
In Mansfield Dinkins we trust.
Knock is hard to bring down, maybe because the fact that hes the strongest kid in the school
Not taking sides but SITOFN telling EM about his Airport prejudice is like the pot calling the kettle black. No bigger homer on this blog than SITOFN. Plus EM said White could win it, how is that being prejudice?
Calm down SITOFN, didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. Never said Kish was average (don't you love when people put words in your mouth I SURE DO). I realize it doesn't revolve around what Kish did vs Air, except that was the biggest game on your schedule. If he was shutdown vs CC in a battle of unbeatens I would be saying the samething. When all is said and done if Kish or White wins OPOY good for them, I will take an outright league title anyday. Just wish GI was D3, then we could all see Kish get shutdown again. EM
3:30 poster they're asking why linemen don't get nominated for opoy… it is very true that a running back can't succeed without their line…but there is no set-in-stone way to measure a lineman's performance. The only truly measurable aspect is pancakes, but you can have many pointless pancakes (given that they don't turn into 15-yarders) linemen don't get the nominations because their true performance just cant be measured by numbers.
If his initials are EM how would Shumake be his kid. Dumb comment, I know the Shumake family personally and Mr. Shumake would not be on this blog in a million years, trust me on that.

if kish didnt get any yards because of his line. why dont line men win OPOY???

WHAT??????? I DON'T GET THAT COMMENT AT ALL
Any all league predictions?
if kish didnt get any yards because of his line. why dont line men win OPOY???
Gi/Riverview tonight and tomorrow gonna be a great one oooooo baby
#athiest
The people who say Kish is out of it for OPOY are sadly wrong. It's called Offensive Player of the YEAR not of one game. I was at that game and Airport's line just was stronger and more physical than Grosse Ile's. It's not the runningbacks fault if your getting hit in the backfield every time you get a touch. With that said I still think White and Schumake have a chance to win OPOY too but it is definitely still a three horse race.
I agree that CC should win to be in playoffs, but look at Ecorse they play river rouge and some deroit charter school twice ! they beat both already is that FAIR ?
Sorry EM – Shumake must be your kid (Kish isn't mine) but it's not a two horse race. Shumake is good, but he is not a White or a Kish. If you mention that Airports D was so focused on him GI should of been able to move the ball with their other backs but opted to throw the ball and not give Kish touches. lack of O line and D are what stopped the running game, not Shumake's preformance.
Ask any other team Kish or Shumake and you will probalby be very disapointed. Still a lot of football to be played. One game does not make or break opy.
P.S. I am Not a GI parent either.
EM….hate to break it to ya but the world don't revolve around Air (rather surrounded by it…yukyuk).
Mr Kish is an absolute OPOY candidate and your flagged 15 yds for a flagrant foul….that is thinking that someone can only be considered "good" based on what they do againt AIR…..NOT.
Do you realize how shallow and onesided that sounds?….I guess the blog nation will decide for themselves.
Kish is so much more valuable than his stats (which are RB league best BTW):
– He distracts D's so that Nelly, White and Christian do their damage.
– Not to mention he's a D standout too (when they play him).
– Did I forget to say he's got the leagues best RB stats??
Oh yea…if he's so average, why was "AIR D so focused on him"??? YOUR WORDS NOT MINE.
Your Air prejudice is fogging up your glasses…try windex.
SITOFN
Island > View
best rivalry game in the Huron Leauge its a playoff game before the playoffs.
going to be a great game.
#justwin
Lol, love the haters. Every once in a while you get a funny one.
-bn
OPOY is a 2 horse race between Shumake and White, the people that mention Kish are really fooling themselves. Kish had 22 yards on 8 carries in the biggest game of his high school career. Airport's D was so focused on him that had he carried 20 times he would have been lucky to get 50 yards and GI's coaches knew it. So they lined him up at wideout and McCormick shut him down. EM
Couldn't agree more chris…time for change on the FR sideline…EVERY coach needs to step down..knoch gets plenty of carries and I believe is averaging around 4 per carry. the problem is with our O line….just not big or aggressive enough and when you combine that with a lack of fundamental blocking which isn't taught it gets ugly…chickeral seldom has time to set and throw and our backs get hit at the line….ABSOLUTELY NO PUSH don't think I've seen a pancake block all year from anyone other than knoch…..rams
Maybe SMCC could play the folks over at the MediLodge.
You should not make the play-offs on a forfeit win. That is just wrong. But what the heck, that's how CC rolls. Find a game and "win" your way in, like everyone else in the who made it in the honorable way.
Calebe Shumake is a senior.
Wore a foot cast all last season.
GI fan. Let’s not be like one of those Occupy Wall street people and just ask for equality! OPOY should be about 80% objective and 20% subjective (intangibles) White played well but his team lost. Passing and rushing numbers are very good but not sure of the “gaudy” label I keep hearing. Shumake/Jones have produced over 200+ yds/game and most of that didn’t come easy. Shumake almost had 200 in that game alone. If White picks apart Riverview and Airport coasts like last week then you have an argument.
I think if Giarmo is on the FR sideline that the Rams would win that game.
just some HUMOR Chris ! FR just need more kids
A senior will win the poy awards. Is shumake a sr?
-bn
Obviuosly FR doesn't win a 0-0 game.
OPTY: A tough one.
White – major threat on the ground or in the air. Kish – let that horse out of the stable Coach B – what are you holding him back for? Everytime he touches that ball he MOVES. Great year for the Devils!
Question for all the doubters is will you FINALLY give GI the credit that they deserve?
The closest FR got to endzone was about the 20 . Eddings stop that drive with a INT .SO if FR wins 0 to 0 then I guess they should have won. They did play hard .
Most likely CC won't be playing anyone else in week 9. They will accept a 2-0 forfeit that will allow them to finish with a 5-4 record. If the Falcons accept a bye week or remain idle they finish at 4-4 and most likely out of the playoffs.
Inside scoop is SMCC will not have a week 9 opponent.
-bn
I just wasn't impressed with CC at all against FR. Don't get me wrong, the Falcons deserved to win but I thought FR could have and should have won that game. Untimely penalities, an unforced fumble recovery for a TD, and numerous missed tackles on a 4th and goal from the 12 yard line that resulted in a TD were the difference. Certainly the 19 point spread was not indicitive of how close the game was.
As usual, just my opinion.
Offensive Player of the Year. Lets break it down by head to head stats between GI and Airport:
White 23/35 343 yds. 1 td 1 int. Potcova 3/5 114 yds. 1 td. 0 int. Airport stopped Kish early and went to the passing game. White looked impressive with lots of targets. Potcova opportunistic with only a few targets.
Rushing Overall. GI 25/100 yds. Kish 8/23 yds. Airport 45/314 Shumake 23/184 Jones 13/114
Both GI and Airport experts tell me that these were 2 very good defenses.
If GI wins this game the winner is clearly White. Shumake is the probable choice.
Smith from Riverview is right there too but a Soph
Chris, everone fogets that SMCC also had three turnovers in that game.If it wasn't for those the score could have been alot worse. Flatrocks offense didn't impress me.
Mhsaa.com now says Windsor Assumption.
-bn
Of course Ecorse or anyone in D6 is not going to play SMCC in week 9. That would be possibly "aiding" them by giving them an opportunity for 5 wins. They may have to look down in Toledo or further south. Of course none of this will matter if they cant get by the Bears.
-bn
Didnt end up going to the game Chris but the yardage the MEN gave for the game was 300 for SMCC and 100 for FR. If that was anywhere near correct how did FR hang in the game and have a great shot at winning as you say?
-bn
I thought FR should have won that game. The Falcons did what they had to do thought to win. SMCC did do a nice job of stopping Kamin. Knoch absolutely crushed a few "would be" tacklers that night.
Is shumake a senior?
CHRIS YOU SAID LITTLE OF THE DEFENSE 30 EDDINGS AND HIS FRIENDS AT SMCC DID ON YOUR RAMS AND # 3 SHUTTING HIM DOWN ? RAN ALOT SIDEWAYS
Doesn't get good carries? He has the most touches on flat rocks team. The Kid runs hard and is the best blocker in the league coming out of the backfield. But too say he doesnt get the ball enough is a joke. He has 95 carries.
Kamin- 74
Bloser 71
OPY will either be Kish or White not Shumake.
White has all of the numbers to take it. 5 rushing touchdowns and 11 passing td's. The two below don't have the passing stat to add to make opy.
Shumake the most rushing yards but also has 58 more touches than Kish with only 14 more rushing yards and 6 touchdowns.
Kish has 58 fewer touches than Shumake (total 81 touches) and is at 828 yards on the season with 12 touchdowns.
As a coach who do you vote for? Shumake great player on a great team. White a danger both on the ground on in the air or Kish that when he touches the ball he will gain a first down or td?
HEY CHRIS HOW ABOUT YOUR RAMS ? LOSS
How about the Detroit Lions? They are the Riverview of the NFL!
Best football rivalry in the league and why?
Would say Riverview / GI or Flat Rock / Huron
Flat Rock's Colin Knoch is basically a guard playing fullback.
I agree – great player in the wrong position.
SMCC probably has a chance of making the playoffs if they can finish 5-4.
It's crazy that they could make it but more power to them if they do. They will lose in the first round..
Which team has been the league biggest disappointment this season?
Milan
Riverview certainly has exceeded my expectations this season.
We are good and keep on working every week for the wins. They arent just handed to us.
Who ends up the Offensive Player of the Year?
Havn't seen Kish or White but from what have been told and looking at max preps. Looking at stats Kish doesn't touch the ball much compared to others but when he does he is a threat with the most td's in league and 2nd in yards with minimal touches compared to other backs (wish we had him). White – gaudy stats. Runs the ball a ton and can move the ball at will in the air. (wish we had him too) So I say it's a flip of the coin. Either can still have a break out game to take them over the top but it's tough with having both great players on the same team when one controls the ball.
How about Defensive Player of the Year? French
Does Riverview hate Grosse Ile because the best part of their "View" is the "Island"? Cant stand them never will.
Michigan State or Michigan? State
sorry LOSS
Chris SMCC has contacted those schools except Plymouth . Ecorse didnt want a game . Coach said see you in the playoffs.Lets have someone else in the Huron league drop there last game and play Plymouth .A LOST !
Flat Rock vs Huron all around is THE greatist rivarly in the Huron League. Flat Rock in the past 20 years i believe in football has only lost to Huron 2 or 3 times. In basketball the past couple years have been dominated by huron because of a last second shot in a few of the League games. Just all around great rivarly and friday night at middle stat field is gonna be eletric.
They should play Ecorse. I think it would be a fun one. I've been on the Ecorse Bandwagon since 2009. Lets Go Kyle Dinkins lets go! CLAP CLAP!
Plenty of teams to play on week 9. Plymouth High is available! Loss. How about Consortium? That would be a win. Ecorse? Loss. Chandler Park Academy? Loss. Melvindale ABT? Win. Reese? Tough call. Eau Claire? Win. They need that 9th game.
Windsor Assumption has backed out of week 9's game. Giarmo is searching for a team to play. Just an FYI
Starters make up most special teams in hs football thus the best teams usually have the best special teams.
-bn
Airport did not shut down the Kish kid. GI's coaching staff was the ones that shut him down. He had maybe 6 touches the entire game – didn't play much defense – not sure what the heck the coaches reasoning was, only they know. Not taking away from the Airport win – they deserved to win that game. Look at his stats – leads td's – look at his yards per carry (and for some reason he doesn't get the touches – not sure why on that either) – those stats are better than anyone else in the league and should put him in a pretty strong position for opty.
The Monroe News says it is Windsor Assumption.
Mhsaa.com has them playing villanova. Which isn't the same team but they could be wrong.
-bn
Chris you never mention special teams even though it is a big part of the games! How about something like who has the best special teams in the league
How about the Detroit Lions?
–Its incredible to see what an amazing turn around Mayhew has made selecting a coach, and drafting players to turn the organization around. Although the Lions might not go deep in the playoffs, they should be 10-6 if they can steal one from Green Bay (which I think they might). Pumped up for the Lions.
Best football rivalry in the league and why?
–As a Jefferson Alumni, my opinion is skewed, but, it always seems that Jefferson vs. CC or SMCC always seemed like a big rivalry in football. I kind of see GI and Airport becoming a rivalry for the future.
Flat Rock's Colin Knoch is basically a guard playing fullback.
–Seen him in two games this year, and he is a great blocker, kinda confused, because FR's Line is small and slow. Great player though.
SMCC probably has a chance of making the playoffs if they can finish 5-4.
–Even though SMCC is down this year, that would be great for them if they make the playoffs. Might even sneak a win in the first round.
Which team has been the league biggest disappointment this season?
–Some will include Milan, but, we all knew they are rebuilding their program with the new coach. I think probably Jefferson and SMCC. Jefferson was kind of expected since there needs to be a start of a new coaching era for the Bears. Hoping Genoe takes over soon.
Riverview certainly has exceeded my expectations this season.
–Based on your predictions, I agree, but, their coach continues to improve the program.
Who ends up the Offensive Player of the Year?
–Tough call, White, Kish, Jones, or Shumate.
How about Defensive Player of the Year?
–French at Airport, hands down. If there was a special teams player of the year, he would get that as well. Amazing speed.
Does Riverview hate Grosse Ile because the best part of their "View" is the "Island"?
–I guess Riverview should have some ill feelings, since the Islanders seem to snub the View, and all the GI talk that goes on every year. The View is legit, and have spark and incrdible rivalry.
Michigan State or Michigan?
–Thinking UofM, tough to contain that offense. BUT, State could have a chance if Michigan doesn't play 4 quarters. Thinking State will not allow any type of comeback.
–Bears Fan–
Kish is no longer in the running for OPOY after Airport shut him down, I say Shumake or White gets it. If French doesn't get DPOY something is very wrong. Best thing about the Lions they are young almost everwhere, if they stay healthy they will be contenders for years to come. CC is a near lock at 5-4. CC is also the biggest disappointment, most had them no worse than 2nd in the league. I say Michigan, Hoke and company are great at in game adjustments. They will find a way to exploit State's weak offensive line. EM
Knoch sure can block and he hits hard but it does help him out running the ball he's hard to bring down his number aren't great carrying the ball but he's one of the better players in the league.
Knoch sure can block and he hits hard but it does help him out running the ball he's hard to bring down his number aren't great carrying the ball but he's one of the better players in the league.
aaaand I have been high on the view all preseason and into the season, Chris will attest. No reason now to change my outlook, thus the 1 point victory.
-bn
I say it goes right down to the wire JW. I love how hard the RB runs for Riverview and the QB plays with a lot of poise. I say GI is the slightly better team. Homefield could decide this one.
35-34 View in OT.
-bn
GI or Riverview don't know who's home but if it's at Riverview I would say home team, if the field is as bad as they say.
On the island where GI's running back and quarter back can get good footing. GI by 6
I think GI comes up with a couple big plays that Riverview can't match
Game to watch for sure
D
bn, idk where you got your info about the Canadian team being a different team this year, but i assure you it is the same school they played last year
bn, so your early prediction is the veiw over GI?…..JW
I would say if SMCC were to get to 5 wins they would be a lock to make it in. They would have 2 wins over Class A schools and 3 over Class B. No other 5-4 team in class C will be able to boast that.
Although one of the Class A win is over a 1 win Milan, that would be as many PP as beating a 5 win Class C team.
If you are a CC fan you are obviously hoping we can get by Jefferson and the Canadian team(which is not the same as last year) and you should be pulling for all the Huron league teams come week 9. I see only 2 losses in week 9(Jefferson and Milan) which is huge for all the Huron league teams.
6 wins in week 9 for the league coupled with a win over GI may mean a home playoff game for Riverview.
To me the biggest disappointments are Huron and SMCC.
-bn
Lions are the real deal finally a team that will compete with the rest of the NFL good chance for making playoffs
Offensive player- Kish, Shumake, White, Jones, or Brewer the numbers they end up with at the end will tell I guess any of them could have huge games next two weeks and put them at the top.
Defense player- #1. Kid I hear and read about is French. He has to be a concern for offensive teams only seen 1 game he played in but every tackle he was on there.
UofM or State. Going to be a classic to close to call both need the W to keep that name out there to keep recruiting top players
Answers or Ideas:
What happens if the Lions actually play a full game? Detroit is a football town that has been dorment for a long time. Time to awaken the "Sleeping Giant!"
Best Rivalrys in the HR are sometimes different by sport, but as football goes it seems that proximity is a key factor. Schools that are close to each other, all the kids know each other and it adds to it. Example Jefferson/SMCC, Flat Rock/Huron or RIverview/Grosse Ile.
Agree on the Knoch kid, he would be 1st team all league as a lineman, that kid can block!
SMCC will get in at 5-4, the reward of playing all bigger schools.
Biggest disappointments this year, Milan, SMCC, Jefferson and maybe Huron. Man this league is down this year.
RIverview is not that good, although they have a great record in the league, the reward of playing in a down year.
Have no idea on O or D player of the year. I have not seen anyone really stand out. Will be from Airport or GI I am sure.
The View hates GI, because they have a toll bridge to the island, everyone else has a free bridge, but truthfully, it is proximity.,
Michigan State. Robinson is a great athlete, but is not a QB. HE will hurt U of M if he continues to try and act like a QB.
