Once again Grosse Ile will have a high powered offense but the question remains, “can the Red Devils stop anyone?” Coach John Bodner returns multiple weapons from last season’s 4-5 team but will need the defense to step up if they hope to compete for the Huron League Championhip.
Offensively, the Islanders will be led by two of the best offensive players in the league. Rob White was a unanimous All League choice last season after throwing for 1,689 yards and 16 TD’s while rushing for 547 yards and another 16 TD’s. Alex Kish is a solid RB with both size and speed that rushed for 730 yards and 9 TD’s in just seven games.
Defensively, the Red Devils gave up 38 ppg last season and will need to cut that number in half if they hope to compete for the league title and a playoff spot. Senior LB Corey Graff will lead the defense along with veterans Vince and Joe Alongi.
Grosse Ile opens the season with tough LCAA and Division V state power Onsted. The Wildcats finished 8-2 last season and have won 45 games over the last 5 seasons. An opening night victory for the Islanders could propel them to a special season.

The weak openers of the past aren't the AD's fault. The AD at Grosse Ile schedules games, but he doesn't pick the teams for the schedule. The head coach tells him who he wants to play.
Let's put it this way. If the game were at onsted, I would give GI about a 25% chance to win. At home, I think it's a coin flip. The problem GI will have is that onsted pounds the ball and usually have big fellas up front that lean on you all game. The past couple years that would mean a team like onsted would score 40 without trying vs GI.
We will see if they got tougher on that side of the ball.
Kudos to AD for scheduling a tough opener.

Rob White is a Stud.
Deeee is the key.
Look for some unhearlded Offensive bright spots too…now just to have the same from the Defense.
Strap it up tight boys, the island may just have a storm brewing….

I dont think the long bus ride is as damaging as some think. Inkster traveled nearly 5 hours to stuebenville ohio a couple years and won. I think Onsted will be focused and prepared long bus ride or not. I still think GI wins this game anyway because Onsted doesnt see explosive offenses like this in the LCAA. LCAA is weak, GI should have a speed advantage over Onsted, but it should be a good game regardless of who wins.
Massey ratings is picking Onsted 38-26.
I figue the same as BN. A 2.5 hour bus ride isn't the best way to start a season on a GI team that will be able to pound the ball down the field. I think this one is home field advantage.
The Wildcats have to make the long trek to the island… that will no doubt help the Red Devils.
