Here are my picks for week 1 of the season.
Flat Rock/Ida, the Bluestreaks beat Flat Rock on a late 2 point conversion in OT last season winning the game 29-28. That loss catapulted the Rams to an 0-9 season. Not this season. Flat Rock 28 Ida 21
Huron/Erie Mason, the Chiefs have dominated the series since it started and both teams will be playing different openers next year. Huron won this game last season 40-14. This season will be no different. Huron 34 Erie Mason 13
Airport/Bedford, Bedford won last season’s opener 48-29 after Airport had won the last two. This should be a good game but Airport is most likely a little overmatched. Bedford 30 Airport 27
Grosse Ile/Onsted, this could be the best game to go see in week 1. Onsted has a solid program while Grosse Ile is thinking playoffs this season. Air attack vs. ground attack usually has an obvious outcome. Onsted 35 Grosse Ile 34
Riverview/Crestwood, everyone seems to think the Pirates are playoff bound and beating Class A Crestwood would be a good start for playoff points. Riverview won this game last season and should do so again. Riverview 21 Crestwood 7
Jefferson/Tecumseh, the Bears won this game last season and don’t return much experience from that team. This old Huron League rivalry takes a turn the other way this season. Tecumseh 21 Jefferson 14.
Milan/Ypsilanti, this is the first game in Jesse Hoskins varsity head coaching career and the Big Reds are in rebuilding mold. This will be a tough game for the Big Reds and the Phoenix are looking for revenge. Ypsilanti 28 Milan 24
Saturday
SMCC/Plymouth, the Falcons may have bit off more than they can chew in this season’s opener. Plymouth has a boatload of players back from last season’s Division I runner-up team. SMCC will have a fine season but must just hope to survive the game at Rynearson Stadium. Plymouth 42 SMCC 14
Chris, you know we love you and all…but "brilliant" is a stretch at best….. 😉

I'm just clownin chris, First week is always tough to pick. There were some surprising scores all throughout the state of michigan this first week.
Always tough the first week.
Question for you. Do I always pick the games the way they will go or am I using my brilliant marketing mind to draw readers? 🙂
Chris 4-3 on your picks? Your barely above .500, come on mane. Pick your game up.
Riverview 41-0 Crestwood
All this talk about CC playing Plymouth but not a word has been said about them playing Windsor Assumption again who went 1-7 last year and was out scored 62-296.
That's because no one else will play CC. Figure it out.
Nobody wants to schedule SMCC. They take who they can get.
Can't they have 1 easy game? Sheesh.

Like I said b4 cc has the toughest schedule of any class c team in the state.

why we talking bout monroe? Anyway Sexton is a quality opponent, lots of athletes. Giarmo would never schedule monroe, he wouldnt want to lose to them. He'd rather get beat by another D1 teams like plymouth.
11 am for SMCC/Plymouth
Detroit SE is PSL team with now 1400 students.. Sexton has 700 students and is 2 hours away. Monroe has 2200 students. Fordson, I agree, is a quality opponent. You dont find it odd that Monroe High(2200) is playing sexton(750) while SMCC(430) is playing Plymouth(2100)? Plymouth makes way too much sense, same enrollment, 1:15 minute LESS drive vice Lansing. Monroe could do better.IMO
Chris, What time does SMCC play Saturday?
Why don't SMCC and Monroe play every year? I know there is a size difference but let's face it SMCC draws from a large population pool and has a great % of their students participating in sports.
I think it would be good for both programs. If Monroe wins they only get Class C playoff points but SMCC usually racks up "W's" so that would mean good bonus points. SMCC already plays up so what is the difference?
Let them play! Let them play!
Monroe Has Detroit Southeastern, Lansing Sexton, and Fordson as their non conference. I think that is an unbelievable quality of opponent.

I'm told that some of thesed coaches have a real hard time scheduling non league games. Look where Monroe needs to go.

Monroe High should have played Plymouth. Word is they didnt want to. Scared?

Why is this runner up showcase at EMU pitting D1 against D6?
I think the games would be better if it was:
D1 vs D2
D3 vs D4
D5 vs D6
D7 vs D8
Don't get me wrong, Giarmo would prefer to match his team up with someone that is near impossible to beat. He's just getting them ready for HL games.
Funny how CC plays teams better than them on paper there first game every year! The haters love to make comments about how there going to lose, but there's a method to the madness.
Only Giarmo knows for sure.
Well said…..rams
Airport-Bedford looks like the best game Friday, GI-Onsted should be a good ticket as well. What game will you be attending Chris? EM
I wouldn't worry about the score. Just get a "W". 2-0 will work just fine.
if ur gonna dog out a team, the least u could do is state what team u support……give us a little extra motivation…..chris, I believe if the score is that close it would be a disappointment and have the makings of another long year in the rock, was looking more along the lines of 35-14….rams
I don't think anyone is high on Flat Rock. They obviously were bad last season because they went 0-9. They do have some football players who are a year older and they have some depth which they didn't have last season. Throw in the fact that the league is down overall from last season and you have some wins for FR.
Chris…I too like the picks.
The GI game could certainly be a coin flip…. a close loss would be bad, but also telling.
I suspect there may be even more scoring….pick the over.

Why is everyone so high on Flat Rock this year? They were absolutely terrible last year. Damn people don't know anything.
GOOD PICKS
Ypsi has a Sanders at HB thats getting looks from a few D1 schools.
Good picks Chris.
Doesnt YPSI have a stud at RB?

Not sure CC will score on Plymouth but I will give them a KO return.
28-7 Plymouth.
