Are You Ready For Some Football?

Now that track season is officially over lets talk some football. We have the Monroe County All Star game coming up in 1 1/2 weeks which will feature players from 6 of the 8 Huron League teams along with the 7 on 7 passing leagues.

Let’s here some chatter on this stuff.

  1. I would like to know where every one is getting there info about airport? sure they lost Mays but that is nothing. they are coming out of the "joe show" and are going to be the same dominant team as usual. they have alot more depth in the back field with jones shumake and other that rotate in to keep fresh. they also have the best qb in the league by far. he has a laser arm. then the junior team coming up as a class they have never lost a football game? that says something about heart! there are also 3 returning solid linemen. one is very big and keeps getting bigger while the others are very quick.

  3. My two cents:

SMCC will take a step back toward the pack but still remain the best team and program in the league.

Airport lost their best player and a handful of solid kids from a team that was Airports worst in a decade.

Grosse Ile will be better mainly because they have two of the best offensive threats in the league. Defense will be an issue but the league offenses won't be as good as years past.

Riverview lost some solid players including their best defender and a Division I lineman. Riverview will play "D" but will once again struggle to score.

Flat Rock can only get better. They graduated some players but they were on the smaller side. Their junior class is as good as any in the league but will need seniors to step up.

Milan lost a very good coach and will be replacing him with a young up and comer. You don't leave when the cupboard is full. Robb built that program but they will take a step back for a few seasons as the Big Reds rebuild.

Jefferson lost some of the best athletes that school has had in a while. Looks like the long run will be over soon at Jefferson. The winning ways departed some time ago. The Bears will continue to be physical but the bottom half of the league will be common place for the Bears.

Huron will come back to earth. The most accomplished season in Chief history benefited from a down Huron league and was a whopping 6-4. They graduated numerous players including some monsters on the line.

  4. WOW!! this is a first I finally agree with SITOFN !! (Which way is the wind blowing this year GI?)

GI will be in the mix with a great O again this year but without a D they will suffer.

I also agree that White and Kish will be against one another for the OPY award.

-Flat Rock will be out of the basement
-Huron will drop quite a bit
-??? for Riverview – Last years team had better individuals. What will this year bring??..
-Milan will have to pull out wins
    -Jefferson about the same
-Airport Will drop a few notches
-CC is the team we all wish to be!!

  5. Milan will stuggle to get a win each and every week, 3-6 at best for them. Jefferson surpises as well as the view. Sterg is a heck of a coach. He will get it done.

  6. Lots of GI chatter….which I like for sure. HOWEVER, like a broken record I'll keep skipping back to "WHERES THE D"?

No D = No chance for GI to move to HL upper echelon.

White and Kish will be good for sure, I think there might be some line surprises if mental capacity is as strong as physical attributes. Team speed will also be good….always a plus. I don't think this team will suffer from "chest-bump-O-meter itis" either.

SHOW ME THE "D" coach "B"….7 on 7 wins don't mean diddly squat.

GI makes the playoffs when "will before skill" shows up on BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL.

    I look for:
    -Flat Rock to surprise some
-Huron to come back to Earth
    -Make or Break for Riverview
    -Milan chugs along (Good,not great)
    -Jefferson trending better
    -Airport crash landings
-CC to be predictable (i.e. Great)

Should be a very fun and entertaining HL Football season.

  7. Players need to stay off the blog. Sure go ahead and read and give yourself some motivation but it's not your job to comment even just to throw in your two cents. Do your talking on the field and ONLY on the field

  8. Wow! bn must be in LOVE! Take it easy pal, your not playing….only reading. CC isn't what you expect, so chill out. You'll see!

  9. I'm going to be a senior for Jefferson and am a returning starter and am expecting alot of our juniors.Im not going to trash talk on a blog but I am going to say that were going to be a force this year and I look forward to putting all you smcc trash talkers in your place. Im going to say Jefferson is going to win at least 7 games. Anyone wanna talk more smack? Go ahead im not about that, ill let the pads do the talking (:

  10. I think someone has some anger issues. Jeez, if he gets this upset over high school football, I'd hate to see what he is like over something that really matters.
I would say he is spending too much time listening to all those angry old men on talk radio. Relax man…..life is good !!!!!!

  11. You dont believe SMCC will go good in the league this year? Here is a stat for you to chew on. Both of these classes are a combined 26-2-1 vs the Huron League. That is a pretty good indicator that the Falcons will do just fine. I like the fact that they will be underestimated this year. Underestimated by those who have no clue… are you one of those?

Will CC be as dominant as the last couple years??? Probably not but they will be good and do just fine. I predicted 6-1 and 7-2 but could be 5-2 or heck even 4-3. Will they go to Ford Field.. who knows? The goal is only to win the league and they will have a shot at it. It wont be easy though.

The guy mentioned Giarmo going 5 wide… haha that is obviously a joke by the previous poster. He will run his double tight straight T along with some double tight double wing.

You said the CC line is a lot smaller… no not really. They have the big 250 pound tackle back who is a year bigger and stronger and the rest of the line will be 210 or so just like last year. Experience will be lost but not size.

No coach is going to predict a championship season by the way. So this assistant coach you live by is just saying what all coaches would say regardless of how good or bad his team will be.

Anywho, these clowns you speak of are just fans trying to have a little fun.. nobody is being rude or insulting so why not just let it go. I am probably the top clown so I can speak for all of us by saying quit being such a meanie and chill out a bit.

This will be another great year in the HL as always, good luck to all teams.

  12. I'm assuming that there are two countdowns because one guy is thinking first game and the other is thinking first practice.

As for SMCC seniors. I would also assume he is talking about freshmen and JV years as well. It could be argued that those don't mean anything but winning every game at any level is impressive. What it probably means is that they have more talent than most teams. The class behind them seems solid as usual. Combine those with the best coaching staff in the league and your probably looking at another good season.

Right now I see 7-2 out of the Falcons. By the way, Giarmo won't change a thing.

  13. 6 Wars and Counting

"I read where this senior class has never lost a game in the league. Worried?
    Can you explain?"

    -bn

What are you reading? The Monroe News? Do you believe everything you read? If that's the case, Obama was going to give us all a new house and a new car and end all the wars! LOL!! Have you ever been to a game? Just because these clowns never lost dosen't mean they wont. These "seniors" were on the bench when all the seniors from last season were playing. This is a whole new team. This class is alot smaller and slower than last years seniors. Give it, a couple of them did see some action, but MOST of them did not.(unless your counting kick offs and returns) Oh yes, they took a huge beating with graduation losses, and will take some suprizing losses on the field this year. CC isn't the team everyone thinks they are. Why do you think Giarmo is thinking of a 5 wide shotgun? Because he knows his o-line is alot smaller, his backs are smaller and slower, and they wont be able to run the ball up the middle as they always did. I live right next door to someone on the staff, and he isn't expecting a championship season at all. Yes, you should worry if you expect a 6-1 season. Better be happy with a 5-2/4-3. CC will be stunned by some "lower ranked" teams this year. When I say lower ranked, I mean according to some of the pre-season predictions these clowns are making. Some clowns even think Mayes is still playing! The count down clown is just counting down to his teams first loss of many to follow. Yep, the CC "machine" is a little rusty this year, but Obama promises to fix it.

  14. CC fans are really worried this year! Most of them don't even have a clue who's playing. Just read the posts! Bandwagon and fair weather fans at best!

  15. That may be true but cc has had the better team by far the last 8 years and Jefferson has found a way to win 3 of those. The rivalry has a way of making things equal.

    -bn

  16. Well nobody in particular. I just don't think either will be good enough to run the table. IF I had to guess I would say airport loses to cc and cc loses to jefferson.

    -bn

  17. 7 on 7 passing last night at Airport was pretty fun. Taylor Truman and Jefferson were there and Monroe High bailed out at the last minute. Defensively Truman looked good and Airport looked inspired. Jefferson didn't look real good on either side of the ball. Airport impressed both offensively and defensively. Big targets for receivers and the QB looked real nice. Lots of picks on defense too. I know – its only summer passing

  18. What is going on with Hurons high football field I was there recently to watch a Baseball game and saw the field all torn up. Will it be ready for the season.

  19. There is no way that Flat Rock will run a pro set. They have the backs. But not the offensive line. Blosser would be good through the tackles. Hes pretty big.

  20. Lets knock off this count down crap this year. It's getting really old Chris. Just wasting our time, and yours to post it.

  21. I know for a fact he (Oestrike) is..I've herd they are getting away from the Sweeps and Outside Tosses and going to a Pro Set with some Power I..Prunicki wants to focus on the defense this year..
I do agree though that he will feature blosser

  22. Airport/Bedford will be the game of the week. Airport will have their new lights fired up and the entire community will be there to cheer them on. That light thing is a story in itself.
If Mays doesn't lay an egg and Potcova gets a few more looks downfield its a much closer game. Bedford looses more than Airport as far as senior leadership.

  23. I don't think that GI will be the underdog. If anything it will be a even game to a slight advantage to GI. I hear that the GI O will be even more powerful this year than last. Lot of very athletic udercalssman moving up to Varsity and the two best offensive players in the league will be putting up the points.

I do agree that Airport – Bedford is a toss up. It wil be a good game since both teams are just about even in strength.

SMCC – Plymouth will find SMCC the underdog for sure. SMCC is a great team but Plymouth will be too much for them this year. It's great to see SMCC pushing the limit on wanting a tough game to start the season. SMCC will be as good as usual but they will not be as good as last year.

  24. three great opening game matchups

    SMCC/Plymouth

    GI/Onsted

    Airport/Bedford

I predict three losses but these teams will know what they have.

    -BN

  25. Whoever the backs are for SMCC, they will average 7 yards a carry and lead the league in rushing(as a team). Quite the machine they have there.

  26. There is no way Oestrike is calling O. Pruchnicki wont let anyone else. If Oestrike calls the offense look for his feature back to make an all-state run.

  27. Rest Assure Flat Rock fans you heard it here first, Tommy ostrike is calling the O for the Rams…For Better or Worse..at least he will open it up!!

  28. Queen is from riverview, hes extremely fast but a little too small to do anything major. Samuels at riverivew will do some big things however

  29. GI is not going to have any problems scoring. And they better score a lot to make up for their Defense. I believe that they do have the best offensive threats in the league with Kish and White. No one has mentioned that Kish is also a great receiver. He has the speed, height and ability to catch the ball. Then again they may just run the ball and pass for suprise. When they played us last year there were several drives like Huron League said. They gave Kish the ball Bo Schembechler style and every play to slow the clock.

I think that Riverview and GI will be the suprise teams this year and pull out several wins when they shouldn't have. Cant wait for the season to start.

  30. Just a hunch here but I think you will see GI run the ball twice as much as they throw it.

Look for a Rich Rod W. Virginia type offense but with Kish carrying the ball 40% of the time, White running 25-30% and then throwing the rest.

They may score quick at times but the run game will most likely result in long time consuming drives that keeps the defense off of the field.

Heck, they may surprise everyone and go Bo Schembechler and run Kish every play and then use the talented White when needed on play action resulting in long sustained drives.

  31. White will just need to learn to spread the field and focus on multiple guys and not just one star reciever… it'll be a change but we'll see how he does

  32. GI has plenty of guys to throw too. Receivers are the least of their worries. They are returning multiple starters, the JV threw a ton and their leading receivers are all going up. White will have no problem finding someone to throw to.

  33. White will have to make his own plays. He lost Cameron and one of the best offensive linemen in the league.

  34. BN – Rob White doesn't have the number # receiver in the league any longer. Just saw that he signed to I believe Findlay O.H.
So who does that leave? No one to take that place. I bet defense will be number one on the devils list but will still have to come up with a offense for a quarterback that doesn't have quality receivers.

  35. Rob White should have a huge year, no doubt there. The staff HAS to know if they could just shore up that defense to allow maybe 25 a game vice the 40 they gave up last year, this could be a nice year. Would love to be at the practices to see how much they emphasize defense.

    What say you SITOFN?

Any word on the Red Devils?

    -BN

  36. How come all of the Huron league teams don't get to have players in the game? As far as I know Flat Rock and Huron are both in Wayne County?. I have spoken to a couple of the players from GI and they tore up the 7 on 7 leagues over the winter. Beating teams from some of the power house schools in the state.

  37. Im glad to see the talented young man from Flat Rock Robby Buehrer in the all star game. I know the rams had a terrible year but this kid deserves it. Pretty good defensive end, I think him and the rest of the HL will show some people what the Huron League is all about.

  38. Joe Dunn, the heart and soul of the milan offense and defense. The kid plays with emotion and heart and also has the size to compete with the south. Expect the same at the all-star game. He doesn't have the speed of Wilson or Mayes, but the intensty he brings will bring excitement to the game. Offense or defense look for dunn to make some noise.

    Top

  39. Grosse Ile will take the 7 on 7 passing league easily. It's their bread and butter and their LB's and Corners aren't bad either this year
