  1. Now there are many big guys playing at airport. I read on here in the fall that the biggest line aiport would ever have was last year but I disagree.

  2. FR's backs will have definate growing pains this year though. Flat Rock-Huron loser will go 0-7 in league, winner goes 1-6.

  3. I also watched the 2 back combo from FR ccombine for about 400 on us, FR played harder than your Grosse Ile team too. They beat you. Sorry. Wooped you, and came close to beating us. So watch out for flat rock in 2011 and 2012.

    Airport

  4. Airport Coach… you must not of seen Kish run back the kickoff return against you, or the 70 yard option that he ran against you for another td. he also two or three other 50 plus yard gains against your D let alone the normal gains that he gets every carry. I think that he scored at least 16 or so t.d. last year and not sure about exta points. The best about Kish is that his D is even better than his O . He may not be the best but he is in the top players moving up.

  5. I do think Bosman is getting alot of hype..why shouldn't he? He has received 1st Team for DL for the past two years and last year also received 2nd team for TE. Any other retuning players have the same criteria? Bosman plays both sides of the ball and obviously does it very well -I would bet any coach in this league would love fir him to play for them. He gets my vote for #1 returning player- I only wish he played for us.

  6. I am a Flat Rock Ram and the Rams r gonna run all over them chiefs this year i cant wait to kick there redneck a$$ all over the field

  7. i think RB/LB from FR colin knoch is the best player, you say kish or jones, but it doesnt just matter about offense. colin dominated on defense too. he is the best

    ram fan

  8. hey chris, I am a chief mom. and i hate flat rock!

but i will go out of my way and say that when I watched our boys play flat rock. that #10 bloser kid and that knoch had over 500 yards combined rushing with about 7 touchdowns

    thanks

    joanne

  9. did you watch the airport-fr jv game? best game i have seen in the huron league including varsity in 10 years

Talking about kish from GI being the best is a joke, if you watched our boys from airport run, or even watched the 2 kids from FR run you would change your mind

  10. Did you watch the GI FR game?
Kish had maybe 75 yards. Maybe. FR has dual threat in the backfield, and so does airport. But the most impressive backs i saw were the two from airport and flatrock. and both are surrounded by solid qbs

    A
    Potcova
    Jones
    Schumake

    FR
    Chickeral
    Knoch
    Blosser

those are your best backs and I think the first 6 of your top 10 JV players

  11. The best that I saw last year at JV level was the RB from Grosse Ile and also Justin Jones from Airport. GI running back was the complete package. He has the size and the speed and Jones will be a Mays replacement down the road. There will be others but these two were the stand outs last year.

  12. Watch out for Brandon Potcova from Airport. He will be one of the 2 or 3 best qb's in the league as a sophomore. Running backs Justin Jones and Caleb Shumake would be a really good starting backfield, that's gonna have to wait until next year though.

  13. "What about a list of the top JV players moving up to varsity?
    July 15, 2010 3:47 PM"

I cant really remember the names but the league had some pretty good players last year for JV. The best players I saw were Blosser from Flat Rock, 2 from GI, their running back #27 and their LB who got pulled up to Var while they were still undefeated. Flat Rocks whole group that is moving up is pretty darn solid but I believe most were Frosh so it wont really matter until next year. Airport was solid as usual prob the best group of talent in the league they had a good RB and LB (not sure if it was the same person) CC was not that good "talent" wise but was the best "team" like usual. Stop the T stop them, cant stop it you lose, period. GI's team was MUCH better then years past either them or Airport is the most talented group moving to Varsity. Riverview and Huron did not impress at all but I believe most of both teams were on Varsity so its hard to judge. Milan had some good athletes I cant remember what they played but they were pretty big and fast as a whole. Jefferson was much "less" then their normal skill level.

  14. IMO here are a few upcoming from JV that I know of…….Oh, and please take no offense if there are plaers from teams that I didn't mention – I don't know all of the kids names – after all it was just JV
    Airport – Justin Jones
    Flat Rock – Blosser
    Riverview – Colton Cortis
    Grosse Ile – Alex Kish
Like I said there were a lot of other talented kids out there from other teams – just can't remember all the names

  15. Redmond did not call his plays around bossman. Airport ran to the left, right, and up the middle and won 41-0. Bossman is a good player but to say teams are scheduling their whole offense against him? Geez I think one of the lineman from airport had 3 sacks that game maybe riverview should have been the one changing plays?

  16. Bosman isn't hype at all obviously he's doing something right if you guys are arguiing over him being the #1 returning player in the league. I talked to a Riverview Coach last year when they played Jefferson, Jefferson ran 26 running plays in the first half, of those 26 plays only 4 were ran at Bosman for a total of -21 yards, the other 22 plays were ran for a total of 156 yards. Cisco, yes thee Marc Cisco based his offense on Bosman, Giarmo was the same way as was Redmond who thought VERY highly of Bosman. See a pattern?

  17. i heard flat rock has some young speed. nothing yet, just a young talented sophmore class looking to do something in 2011 and 2012

  18. "Sorry to say it, but I believe Bosman is gettin alot more hype simply because alot of people look at this blog and you (Chris) mentioned his name. Top returning player in the league? I doubt that. People jumping on the bandwagon so to speak."

No Bosman is not getting any hype. It is all the CC players getting hype. Have you watched him play?

  19. i dont remember morrow being very fast last year in football or in track this year. trust me. that had to be a poorly hand timed 4.40. because after watching him in a few sports i would say low 4.7s at best (which is not slow) a 4.40 is a GREAT time for a nfl combine back (though those times are electronic) saying so nobody in the league or region can run a legit 4.40

  20. So Morrow runs a fast 40, can he do it in pads? Did he put up ANY numbers last year? Because I havn't heard his name. Mayes might be slower, but he has a good season under his belt. I'd take experience on the field over a track star anyday.

    j.w.

  21. For huron wilson is a soild runningback but a bigger question is who is gonna replace tyler at linebacker?

  22. Woah! what a bold move for someone to get their name in the mix for fastest back in the league! Talk went from FR to Huron to Airport to SMCC, etc… Jefferson wants their name in too i guess?

  23. Brains for guys that know nothing? Hey boss guess what!? Football isn't just who has the fastest Forty time or who won most of the track season in a 100 or 200 dash! Im sure your aware that their are several other track events that display at least some type of speed right!?! Airport has fast backs despite who beat who this past season.

  24. "your talking about fast kids, Eric Morrow runs a 4.40 at the UT Camp thats blazin speed and HE IS FASTER THEN MAYES who runs 4.7 and Eric beat him in track all season so fastest Forty in huron league probably goes to morrow or pittman but fastest track times go to milan for sure get some brains you guys who know nothing."

Shouldnt you be reading To Kill a Mockingbird?

  25. Bosman is the most COMPLETE player this league has seen in a long time. 2 way player All league for both positions. Why wouldn't he be the best returning player?

  26. your talking about fast kids, Eric Morrow runs a 4.40 at the UT Camp thats blazin speed and HE IS FASTER THEN MAYES who runs 4.7 and Eric beat him in track all season so fastest Forty in huron league probably goes to morrow or pittman but fastest track times go to milan for sure get some brains you guys who know nothing.

  27. I agree, the Jets should have the quickest backfield with Mays and Williams. They have some quick kids from the JV too.

But on the D… the jets are losing pretty much every starter on the Defensive side. Expect Jodeci to play some Safety too i might add too. An inexperienced LB-core is going to be a test but they will manage i belive.

  28. I would also like to add that Mays is probably very capable of starting at DB. It is my opinion that Airport will not be able to afford to not play their best players at every position. Again it is my opinion that they will be fighting for a playoff spot when they face Franklin.

If Mays is the best at DB.. play him there! Your season may depend on it.

    -BN

  29. BOLD PREDICTIONS FOR THE 2010 SEASON

-Jefferson wins first playoff game since 2001.

-GI has a better record than Airport

    -Airport misses the playoffs

    – Half of the Huron League makes the playoffs

    anyone else care to add?

  30. Only 6 weeks before the 3 and 4 way scrimmages. Are you waiting for the new site to begin the team previews?

  31. In HS football the I believe a 2-way player is more valuable than a one way. I would say Bosman or Burkardt.

  32. there i beleive is a few good backs like Eric Zapata which was a amazing full back for the Rams last year but also there r two other full backs that could be great this year with Marcel pop which probably be on the O line this year and Colin knock. then at the backs u could have Erica Zapata again or Josh Jackson which played his freshmen and sophomore year there but also probably the starter is Mike Blosser a great back and a quick one at that

  33. Offensively, yes, Mays would be my choice. Pannone is the top returning Defensive player, in my opinion.

Care to tell me who YOUR choices would be?

Also, I dont talk matter-of-factly. I give my opinion about a subject. Which ever way anyone else takes it is out of my hands.

    j.w.

  34. With all due respect, ANYONE who made 1st or 2nd team all league last year that is returning this year would obviously be considered one of the top in the league.

I just dont think Bosman is the #1 returning player, not by a long shot.

    j.w.

I am guessing Mayes would be your choice?

  35. With all due respect, ANYONE who made 1st or 2nd team all league last year that is returning this year would obviously be considered one of the top in the league.

I just dont think Bosman is the #1 returning player, not by a long shot.

    j.w.

  36. See here is what people don't understand about Airport. They will have the best backfield in the league, at worst the 2nd best OLine and the best offensive weapon in the league in Mays. Offensively they should be fine. The question is on D, where 10 starters are being replaced.

  37. I wish the cc fans would really shut the crap up. I think they are gonna bring bad luck with all the ranting and bragging. The proof is in the pudding, you ever hear that?!

  38. that may be smccs line but they have a secret weapon in sophmore alex mclaughlin.

    wilson and gonyea at TE

    Mclaghlin and Austin/Cardella- tackles

    Burkardt and Austin/Cardella- guards

Collins-Center……. all of them blocking for cusumano lamour pannone yinger adler antonelli both z moores.

this team has experience and POWERRRRRR.

and dont get me started on the defensive side of the balllll!!!!

  39. Wilson – Austin – Burkhardt – Collins – Mcshane – Cardella – Gonyea. WOW!

I'm not bragging but that is one sick O-line.

  40. Burkhart made the top 5 on the list and does a good job for CC,but is far from the best on the OL for CC.He is soild and doesnt make alot of mistakes but is small for his postion and his speed is just ok.Look for other stand outs for CC.. this the entire line is made of returning Jrs.( except one )

  41. Wow… U of D, BBR and DeLaSalle.

Good luck Freshman, you are going to need it! I guess that is one way to weed out those that dont play for keeps.

  42. So in essence who is the best player in the league since there is no Huron League Magazine.

Therefore your top ten list would then be your answer. I know you are a big fan of Bosman and rightfully so. I think he would get your nod.

  43. Never mind I was wrong. They don't play flat rock jv. By looking at the schedule it looks like the week smcc plays flat rock the whole freshman team is getting moved up to jv just for that week. I think they did that this past season too.

  44. I went to SMCC's football website and looked at the schedule and smcc's freshman team also plays flat rock jv team, warren de la salle freshman, and u of d Jesuit freshman teams.

  45. Pannone should het the cover……
others may deserve it but it will somthing along the lines of the season he and his team last year and if they can pull it off again or something. hes the best player for this kind article, its for monroe county and him and his team has the best chance of bringing a state chapionship home to monroe county.

mays would also be a great choice, but if you were to pick someone other than pannone you gotta go with sterling wilson, the kid is up and comming and he can give any team trouble, him and mays would be a great match up.

  46. up and coming for CC would possibly be Dominic Antonelli. Probably will start at RB with Yinger and Lamour.

  47. As a parent I can only hope the players with so much promise keep their acts together, their grades up, and their noses to the grindstone so they can have the great year they've been working towards from the time they were young. Let's go seniors, havet the best year you can! Make it happen! Ok, I'm done now.

  48. Keep in mind boys that the MEN does a Monroe region preview not the just the HL. Could be Bolster from Dundee on the cover. I think Monroe has a pretty good RB as well.

  49. ok – how about instead of top 10 returning players – try a upcoming player(s) to watch? there are a lot of talented boys just coming up to varsity this next season

  50. Those three only play one way. Mays on offense, Pannone on defense and Wilson moved exclusively to offense after game four last year.

Bosman was a unanimous 1st team all-league selection last year at DE and was 2nd team all-league TE. I wouldn't call that hype by me. I would call that one of the top players in the league.

  51. The thing those three have in common is the fact that they were good Juniors playing with a group of good Seniors. They all will miss last years group, thats for sure.

Sorry to say it, but I believe Bosman is gettin alot more hype simply because alot of people look at this blog and you (Chris) mentioned his name. Top returning player in the league? I doubt that. People jumping on the bandwagon so to speak.

As for Cover player, I'm sure Mays will get it.

  52. Bosman is playing, he's the top returning player in the league, I bet if he didnt Giarmo and Cisco would sleep easier before there games against Riverview.

  53. That is a great question and I may have an answer.

Your getting a little ahead of me. Are you trying to steal my thunder?

Most times covers go to the flashy players at the skilled positions.

If that is the case I may have to throw Jodeci Mays, Mike Pannone, or Sterling Wilson on the cover.

Each of those guys have one thing in common though, can you guess?

Sometimes you have to consider the guys who do some blocking and tackling. They don't get the limelight as much but are certainly just as worthy of the cover. Guys that would fit this criteria are Brad Bosman and Kyle Burkardt.

  54. chris, usually the Monroe Evening news does the preview for each school, and they usually have a cover player.

who do you think it will be this year,
and if only the huron league had a preview, who would be your cover player?

  55. That's awesome news. Please tell me another fact that has nothing to do with what has been said so far on this topic!

  56. As for Yinger, does he play a spring sport?

Baseball. Hit .415, and was special mention in the MEN All Region voting.

  57. Yinger is 6'1" 210 lbs. Mayes is much smaller… I would be surprised if Yinger is faster. But I know who I would rather have running right at me.

  58. Yes- laplante, Yinger and Cusumano will all also be studs for the Falcons other than the above mentioned.

  59. Luke Yinger was one of my favorite players to watch last year. Extremely fast on the football field.

It sounds like he is over his injury from last year. I know it was pretty serious.

  60. I agree, Sterling should be on the list after stepping up for that incident that happened right before the Airport/Jeff game. McCollough, Honestly is just a big body. I havent been impressed but track states is what both these kids have accomplished.

As for Yinger, does he play a spring sport? shouldve ran track with Howey then maybe SMCC would've contended with Milan for second place in the league.

Fastest kid i am not sure, lots of athletes faster i would think…

  61. What about jake sterling from jefferson? He took over after what happened in week three and did a great job for the bears last year.

  62. Chris only 7 weeks left. HOw about doing a write up on every team every six days or so in order of prediction?
    -BN

  63. Korody was the anchor of an offensive line that led the way for the likes of teen, church, curtis and white, all of whom averaged more than six yards per carry and combined for one of the best rushing offenses in the league. For someone to come on a blog and post a message purely to put a KID down is both pathetic and an embaressment to said person.

  64. yeah just because yinger got hurt doesnt mean he isnt a stud, hes quick as hell maybe one of te quickest guy in the league. and what about jake sterling that kid pretty atheletic, i would say jake should be up there before mccullough, because honestly what has mccullough done so speacial in his two years on varsity? nothing, and has he even played DE i dont think so? One game vs Grose Ile doesnt make him a season starter, i think you should look a little more into things, Chris you should get some films and wathc them to be more accurate

  65. Don't forget about Yinger from SMCC. VERY fast probably the fastest kid on the team and he was improving before he got hurt against Blissfield. Size and speed he'll be SMCC's top back and will be first team all league next season.

  66. Attacks on players is uncalled for….please take that trash to M-live. Kudo's to Chris for calling it out.

I concur that GI needs to tighten up the D… and yes the mystery player will likely go both ways.

To say GI lacked toughness is a STRETCH at best, however their Defensive performance (or lack there of) will indeed be a measuring stick for the 2010 campaign.

I sense some winds of change at GI on the Defensive side of the ball this year…keep your eyes on the staff here, it's fortified.

    SITOFN

  67. I agree with all but korody. Come on he's been on varsity for three years cause the first two they hardly had enough players on the team to play. Not because he was good.they didnt win a game those first two years He was just a big to put on the line and he still gets thrown around. And at LB last year he wasnot even a factor to slow.

  68. TRUST me when I say: GI's best potential 2010 player may not even be on this list.

Now that ought to keep a few HL bloggers thinking!!!

    SITOFN

SITOFN, you know as well as I do that GI needs to get tougher. They had the athletes last year, they just lacked tougness. If you are going to tell me this player you are talking about is another offensive weapon, that doesnt mean much to me.

  69. Funny you should ask now. I asked for help in developing a website about 5 months ago. I said I was willing to split anybody in on any profits that may come from it. I had no takers.

I am now in the process of having a website developed which is going to cost some money. I am willing to invest some monies to make the site work. In the meantime I thought I would see if anybody would be willing to donate for the free blogs that have been up and running for almost a year. If people donate, great! If not, that is okay too. I was just trying to offset some of the upfront cost that I am incurring on the website.

I have plans for people who would like to help with content during the season. If that is you please email me.

So in answer to your question about me being all about money. You can decide for yourself.

  70. I see the donate buton, I dont have any money but I do have my time to give and maybe a few pair of used spectacles I no longer need or is all you are after is money?

  71. TRUST me when I say: GI's best potential 2010 player may not even be on this list.

Now that ought to keep a few HL bloggers thinking!!!

    SITOFN

  72. All league performers returning:

    -AIRPORT-
    Mayes
    Deweese
    Kitts

    -FLAT ROCK-
    nobobdy

    -HURON-
    Wilson

    -GI-
    Cameron
    White
    Korody

    -JEFFERSON-
    R. Kuehnlein
    J. Kuehnlein
    Hall
    McCullough
    Sterling

    -MILAN-
    Schultz
    Mitchell
    Dunn

    -RIVERVIEW-
    Bosman
    Beamish

    -SMCC-
    Burkardt
    Collins
    Cardella
    Gonyea
    Pannone
    Wilson
    Moore
    Shinevarre

to back up the GI selections by Chris, Cameron and Korody were both 1st team all league in '09 and White is the best returning QB in the league. GI does deserve 3 in the top 10 IMO.

  73. I dont think three GI's should be on the top 10 list, but hey its your blog LOL. But, i agree with 7 of those anyways so we'll see this season who performs.

  74. You had a site or blog (not sure) that a few people joined back in November. Is that the site you speak of?

  75. Funny you should ask BN. Things are in the works right now. I am hoping to have the football site up and running by the 1st day of practice. If I don't get the website where I would like it, I will just continue the blog.

  76. Chris have you decided what you are doing as with the website or the blog other football blog site you started. are you scrapping both plans and keeping things here?

    -BN
