  1. General Question….How many Huron League programs have weight training or Football Tech classes in their school?

  2. As far as I know there were no GI high school football helmets at Island Fest. Where was it stolen from?

  3. Note: The stolen GI helmut does not come with instructions on how to "STRAP IT UP TIGHT"…..you gotta be a Red Devil to understand what it means.

So…..it's just stolen property by theives that won't help competitors against the winds of change blowing in off lake Erie.

Chris, time for a new thread too.

    SITOFN

  4. You can say what you want about CC not recruiting last year. I started for Airport in the 05' season. I was and still am good friends with players that played for CC that year.

Things went down behind closed doors and they admit it themselves. From the QB and a RB, to the linemen from bedford. How does someone start every game with a broke foot, but sits out every practice?(must be something in the water, right?). None of it matters. It's a new season, and it's not even here yet.

All im getting at is alot of the recruit talk steamed from the 05' season. Say what you want, it happened. Anyone care to try to cover that up? You're wasting your time because the kids from that year dont.

I'll be surprised if this gets posted, but if it does please be my guest and lie through your teeth trying to explain it.

  5. what are everyone thoughts on jefferson's jv team this year? their juniors this year have alot of talent but what about the sophomores?

  6. I don't know how it is at your school but at ours the new varsity players hardly get in the game unless they are total stand outs, the coaches are very loyal to the hard working return players so good luck to the up and coming sophs who feel they're gonna come in with a bang cuz their going to need some patience.

  7. Anyone know when the all star game is going to be? I know practices for those who made it are going to be at huron, just want to know when the game is going to be. Anyone?

    KC

  8. SMCC current Sophmore Zach Moore is an awesome replacement for Lovell at the Fullback posistion. The kid is an absolute beast. He will wear opposing defenses down. Excellant hockey player as well. moore will be ALL-STATE next year in both sports…..GO FALCONS!!!!!!!

  9. This blog is really getting, or should I say gotten out of hand. Most, if not all the people making comments in here don't even play football! It's the big mouth fans doing all the bashing. The players don't have to use a blog in order to prove who's better on Friday night. Let the boys play it out. The "fans" comments are worthless. Usless you endure the practices, the conditioning, and actually taking the field wearing equipment other than a tuba, you need to keep your bashings to yourselves. It's great to have school pride, but negitive comments make you look like a fool. Grow up, and show some pride. No need for the official "countdown" being preformed by some clown in here either. That's just an example of stupidity, by another "fan".

  10. Yinger and pannone and pannone will be the definite leaders in offense and defense for the falcons this season. Both talented and to shredded.

  11. I want to wish this Connor kid from SMCC good luck on his hockey journey and good luck to all the teams this year! These are my thoughts: my surprise teams this year are going to be Jefferson and Riverview. I think they could beat some teams, especially Jefferson with the Senior class they will have. Again, good luck all!

  12. Boy, you sure know alot about the Green bay USHL team…Quit hating on the Schmidt kid and give him some props! Not many kids from Monroe County have ever been drafted to the USHL…He is a very good athlete and wish him the best in whatever sport he chooses,

  13. Boy, you sure seem to know alot about the team that Schmidt was drafted by. They only have 2 returning Dmen and they must keep 2 1993 born players on their roster (per league rule)considering he is 1 of 3 1993's drafted, and the only 93 defenseman. He has a good shot on making the team (playing time might be limited though) Quit hating on the kid and give him some props! not many kids from Monroe County have ever been drafted to the USHL. He is a very good athlete and I wish him the best in whatever sport he chooses…

  14. The way I see it is this;

    CC runs 3 plays.
They're team is built, but not big.
    They're a private school.
    They win.

Those 4 things create anger, which move on to talks about them. I highly doubt a parent is going to pay [i think it was $10k+/year] just to put their kid in a high school program just to play football and just because they were "recruited" and told they could make it to college. No parent is going to take that big of a gamble. sorry don't see it. CC is a good school with a good program. Save the recruit talk for the Marines, Army, Air Force, and Navy.

    KC

[btw; if you can't be the run play, join in. beat them at their own game.]

  15. Anonymous you are right. Connor didn't get drafted until the 19th round so it's a long shot he'll be on the team. I believe everyone who gets drafted still has to try out. Good luck to Connor on this journey! And good luck to all the league teams this year, I can't wait!

  16. I'm not a CC parent/fan….But PLEASE stop with the "Recruiting Talk" – think about it – who in their right mind would "recruit" players who are 50lbs smaller, with exception of one or two not faster, and no more talented than the rest of the boys out there? Just doesn't make sense. And please CC players/fans/parents do not take any offense to the above comments – I do believe that there is a lot of talent on the team. CC has always been VERY disciplined – WELL coached team that knows how to PLAY as a team. That's it – has nothing to to with recruiting! Until the other teams realize this – or should I say stop being so jealous – yes I said it – JEALOUS – they will not knock CC down off the top. Good luck to CC, Huron, Airport, Riverview, Jefferson, Flat Rock, Milan, GI. And this list is in NO PARTICULAR ORDER. Cant wait for 2010!!
    Signed – JP

  17. yeah huron got copley from airport and he is a junior not a senior and he will start he is a good player and won districts in wrestling.

  18. 9-0 is unrealistic for the pirates. They could possibly do well this season if they keep up with the hard work. They do have Bosman to help lead the team..

  19. Understandable sitofn. I'm not trying to make up excuses for our JV teams performance. There's really no excuse that can be said for them to be honest. Hopefully this year with a solid line we can get somewhere because to be honest? Once this upcoming senior group is gone, we will have nothing but small kids on the huron team and that can either make or break us.[must be the water around here? lol]

    KC

  20. ok for all of you football people trying to talk hockey, hockey is different from all other sports. connor got drafted in the 19TH ROUND!!! he will not play for that team. only the 1-3 round players acutally play, just because you get drafted does not mean you play. that team has six returning defensmen, take into consideration the 18 other players drafted before him, that leaves him pretty good odds to play huh? and idk how everyone can still hate on smcc, you'd think goin undefeated and taking a trip to ford field would earn them a little respect but apparently all they do is recruit, i heard jack giarmo sits up in his own little press box and tries to give the cyo players money to come play at smcc haha come on now why does everyone think they recruit players when most of them played in the cyo and for the kids who haven't their parents send them their for a private school education and for their previous success built on TRADITION and DISCIPLINE. and btw why would they schedule the jefferson cc game for week 2?

  21. I love all the comments about how CC's team recruited last year…. Name one person on last years team that was recruited… And another thing, all you airport fans can stop talking. I remember last year you guys were suppose to blow CC out of the water. Everyone talking the team up and predicting a great victory. Then after you got your butts handed to you, all this recruiting nonsense started up. Well if CC recruits, why would you say you could beat them in the first place? Don't use that as an excuse after saying you would beat them. You said you would, and you didn't. Case closed.

  22. i heard the kid that huron got is a sophmore from airport and he started a lot for them on JV i think freshman and sophmore year

  23. KC…when Huron starts to leave the JV alone and let the boys gel as team-mates, then and only then will Huron compete.

GI has learned this lesson (I HOPE!!) the hard way, TRUST ME I LIVED THRU IT.

Your comments to "excuse" JV performance with the hope of Varsity excellence are NOT SOUND and Huron will likely deliver the same result.

I'm not hating on Huron, just stating that JV excellence is the path to improved Varsity performance, not visa-versa!

With that said…only time will tell how 2010 plays out.

    SITOFN

  24. huron did recieve a player from airport and will be a senior next year…i doubt he will even start sorry

  25. BN,

lol well we can only hope to stop from adding a win to their column and a 1 to their loss column 😛 Good luck this season bro =]

    "Hey KC –

Just how do you think that Huron will beat GI this year – Last year's GI Varsity AND JV team beat the Chiefs……..hmmmmmmmmmmm…..

    May 25, 2010 11:49 AM"

How do I think that? Well with a brain of course. Why do I think that? Huron's line is bigger, and faster. and Wilson, Brenan, and Brewer will run right along with their linemen up field all game. Also, our JV team had like… 13 kids to the roster? So I don't think thats really saying much.. 3-4 of which who were suppose to be JV players, were on Varsity all season. JV wasn't much last year and I'll be the first to admit it. The season will be here soon enough and all will be done out on the field.

    KC

  26. Ive seen all the teams JV thru Varsity for every player in the HL so the only players/teams Im not familiar with are the incoming freshman and transfers. People need to stop posting on strictly loyalties or past groups of players when trying to be objective. If you want to "toot your schools horn" that is fine but dont try to make it sound like you know what you are talking about.

    IN MY OPINION….
*This year SMCC and Airport are the class of the league good varsity and JV squads last year so the talent will be there. But they both are losing the "hearts" of their team and this could open it up for someone to sneak in. Airport has a new coach and SMCC lost a special group of seniors. *Jefferson will be tough but the JV was not good and the Var definitely was not up to their "normal" standards. But the group "taking over as starter" were very solid a few years ago on JV.
*Milan can always tear it up but they were not "loaded" like in past years on JV or Varsity but they are good enough to challenge all comers.
*Huron is losing what little they had so they will most likely finish at the bottom. JV was not solid either but most of it was pulled to varsity.
*Riverview is improving and might start to get some of those big wins. But I think they are still a few years away. Varsity was not very good last year and the JV was worse so the "talent" wont be there to put it all together yet.
*Flat Rock will simply have too many young players to pull it off but they will be competitive. They are in the same boat GI was in up until this year "having to play mostly freshmen and sophomore JV players on Varsity." This will pay off in a year or two but not yet.
*I do think GI is going to be MUCH better this year. Will they finish in the top of the league? I have no clue. But they are now fielding a true varsity team of seniors and juniors most of which have been on the team for 3 years. The defense should be improved simply with returning starters and the influx from a solid JV team whos defense was good most of the year. Also no matter what the poster above stated about their OL it was not that bad last year. The offense is going to put up points so if the defense can slow people down they will be "IN" every game and that is all it takes to have a chance.

    Top teams
    SMCC 8-1
    Airport 7-2

    Surprise teams
    Grosse Ile 7-2
    Riverview 5-4

    The rest
    Jefferson 6-3
    Milan 4-5
    Flat Rock 1-8
    Huron 1-8

  27. Yeah huron could have a shot at being at a decent record this season, they are going to have a good backfield, they are going to be young at linebacker I think they are only having one senior linebacker return. I heard that they got some sophmore who is going to a junior next year from airport is this true?

  28. Hey KC –

Just how do you think that Huron will beat GI this year – Last year's GI Varsity AND JV team beat the Chiefs……..hmmmmmmmmmmm…..

  29. Yeah, I heard Connor got drafted to play hockey for Green Bay. I also heard he still has to tryout so we will have to see what happens. Good luck Connor.

    Also, RE: Anonymous said…
wow, recruits really do stick together, do you guys go out to dinner after or movies instead? smcc disgust me, you arrogant recruits need to get over yourselves. Go Jets!

    May 25, 2010 8:05 AM

You say they recruit, name one??? Just name one! Like stated earlier all of their best players played in CYO and probably over 90% of their players were from CYO schools. Their o-line was probably the smallest in the league too.

By the way, I like your comment SITOFN.

  30. I'm not always in agreement with SITOFN however in his last comment he is SPOT ON. SMCC is at the top of the league for a reason – AWESOME PROGRAM – WELL COACHED – WELL DISCIPLINED ATHLETES THAT WORK AS A TEAM. Nobody can take that away. The league should strive to play to their level and not stoop to anything but that! Any other team in this league that bad mouths them (and you know who you are) are just giving the rest of us a BAD NAME. You're best bet is to beat them on the field not to bad mouth them here. Can't wait till this season.
Best to all in the HL. I know I'll be out there watching all the teams – of course I'll be cheering on only one team (not SMCC).

  31. KC,

Sticking up for your school is a good thing. I do wish you the best of luck every week but one. Especially week 1 and 9. SMCC needs all the playoff points they can get 😉

  32. RE: "wow, recruits really do stick together, do you guys go out to dinner after or movies instead? smcc disgust me, you arrogant recruits need to get over yourselves. Go Jets!"

NICE! Airport talking early this year. I thought you would stay humble after last year. You know, the team that outwieghed SMCC by 50lbs a man and had the "best" RB in the league but still managed to lose by 18 points.

I have a suggestion for the Airport fans. Why not this year just let the season play out and see where you stand after the CC game vice spouting off at the lip prior to the game only to have your dreams smeared all over the field.

Humility can be learned. Lessons are given by the Falcons most every year.

  33. RE: "Connor schmidt was drafted last week by USHL Champion,Green Bay Gamblers. Too bad he won't be playing football the next 2 years at SMCC…..Go chase your dreams young man…This kid is a human highlite reel…."

Ya I just got the word myself. It is a loss for falcon football but it looks like he has someting going in hockey for sure. Good luck to him.

    -BN

  34. GI (like all the HL teams) will have to prove they can win on the road….with some consistency B4 they can climb to upper echelon status.

They have Airport, SMCC at home this year which were they only games last year where GI showed some ugly reminders of OH4 madness.

On another note….I don't understand all the SMCC hating prevelant on this site. The HL faithful should be proud to have a quality program like that in the league!!

Remember, you'll always play (or at least strive to) to the level of your competition, and bashing one of the best just means your scared, jealous or willing to degrade the quality of your program (whoever your team is) to advance its standing in the league…..

Said differently, lets all just throw in the towel vs SMCC so we can win more games???…..I think not, we'll actually just become beautiful losers and a WEAKER league!!…my $0.02

    SITOFN

  35. wow, recruits really do stick together, do you guys go out to dinner after or movies instead? smcc disgust me, you arrogant recruits need to get over yourselves. Go Jets!

  36. "you guys are straight stupid huron has never won six games what makes this year any better.. HURON FANS SHUT UP!"

Might I just ask who you are to say shut up? What school is it you represent to where you can tell others to shut up. Please, save your ignorance for MLive. kthx

BN, [just read your other comment]

Huron is a working program and we just need to get things rolling. Kalby is doing all that he can as a coach to get us going. He's been the first coach to actually work his hardest to try and bring Huron to the top and the only coach to which i know of who has stuck around. We've got the skilled players to play the game, but when you've got some players who are in it to win it and others that half ass it, your put in a tough spot and take a chance to lose it. We had great potential to finish off this 09 season with a winning record and we had every plan of doing such, but after that 1 point loss to CC, i think it brought the teams spirit down, and that was the downfall to our season.. There's a whole other season a head of us, and Kalby knows exactly what he needs to do this year to get us going, and we've got to do our part to. We just got to bring it onto the field and show up and play. I'm not meaning to down other teams, and sorry for doing so, but I just hate how people dog on Huron badly when they know what kind of players we have and know we could do good but just straight out say cus your huron, you suck.. gets old lol

    KC

  37. BN,

Its kind of hard to say considering many changes are being made to our team this year. We're getting a new QB after having Mayrand for 2 years and losing some big seniors and good linebackers but were making up what we lose with soon to be juniors that are great. But my thoughts on who we could beat this year, Erie Mason, GI, Jefferson, Flat Rock, Riverview could be a close call and go either way only time will tell, and Crestwood. But its football and if you don't execute your plays or work hard and play tough, you won't get the win. Those game mentioned above, if we give it our all and do right when it comes to play calling and execution, we could very well have a good season this year. The line will be a beast, our backfield will be fast and strong.. Just waiting for the season to start now.

    KC

  38. I for one love smcc football because my friends play. It is love because I support them 🙂

    Go falcons

  39. To be honest many of the best players from the CYO go to Monroe, Ida and Jefferson. CC only gets some of the CYO talent.

  40. Connor schmidt was drafted last week by USHL Champion,Green Bay Gamblers. Too bad he won't be playing football the next 2 years at SMCC…..Go chase your dreams young man…This kid is a human highlite reel….

  41. SMCC recruit? Come on. Who was recruited on last years team? Pretty much all of their players were from
CYO and other catholic schools with the exception of a couple. If they did recruit don't you think they would have had a bigger offensive line? Their line was one of the smallest, if not the smallest in the league. These are my thoughts.

  42. Recruit…that's funny. That's why all of their best players came from CYO schools. Lovell, Howey, Labeau, Miracle, Panonne, Wilson, Laplante, Lamour, Yinger, etc…they all went to CYO schools. There were only 3 players on their roster that came from public schools I believe. All the rest of their players came from Catholic grade schools. So how is it recruiting if a vast majority of your players went to CYO schools in the area?

  43. Im so sick of all you jelous fans and players on here bashing smcc. What recruits do they have??? who did they have in 09? 08? oh yea that hard recruiting couldnt find them a kid to bench over 265 last year. But that didnt matter, they were still was able to smash most all HL schools going 7-0 this past fall. Whenever you win people will hate on you and try to find reasons and excuses for why they lose. (IE saying they recruit and such) Accept the fact smcc is good because of coaching, tradition, and kids that want to win more than any other school in the league. Ford Field 2009 I bet upset alot of you haters. Go Falcons, keep hating on them, just because they win, all it does is fuel the fire. Keep being jelous over all smcc athletes because they go to the catholic school in the region/league.

  44. Of course CC has the hots for the football team, recruits tend to stick together,as for riverview i'd say they're up a little high but from what I hear about Stergalas they'll be very much improved.

  45. RE: "Those boys from SMCC must have the hots for the football team. They sure do say lots of pretty things about them. And the ones they are chirping about aren't even returning this year! Must be love!"

    Or PRIDE
    get some

  46. KC,

I am interested in who you think Huron will beat this year. I can see them beating Erie, FR and maybe Crestwood. Anybody else is a complete stretch to me. Your thoughts?

    -BN

  47. you guys are straight stupid huron has never won six games what makes this year any better.. HURON FANS SHUT UP!

  48. KC,

you act as if Riverview beating Milan was no big thing. They beat them pretty bad mind you. I look at that win as Riverview turning the corner. Huron just fell apart as the season went on. Not sure what to blame that on but it did happen. It may have been the crushing loss to CC(which they had won). The players may have quit on the coach. Whatever the case Huron just completly hit rock bottom. I just cant predict Huron winning more than 2 games. They might eek out 3 but I doubt it. I will bet you a barley pop(if of age) that the Pirates have a better record than the Chiefs. Riverview also has a very accomlished coach who has a track record of winning teams. Huron, not so much. I doubt I will be able to prove to you that Riverview is the better team on here but on the field it will be most evident. IMO

    -BN

  49. There arent any catholic schools in the area to play. Asking CC to travel to Novi, Birmingham, Allen park, Orchard lake, Madison Heights and Detroit for every game in every sport is a bit much to ask. So joining a catholic league is a mute point.

  50. Is it true that Huron brought in some coaches from Taylor Truman for this fall? I heard that rumeor recently but have not seen anything about it

  51. Those boys from SMCC must have the hots for the football team. They sure do say lots of pretty things about them. And the ones they are chirping about aren't even returning this year! Must be love!

  52. BN,

Riverview got stronger as their season went on? The only decent team of their last 3 wins was Milan. Willow Run is a joke, considering the 2008 football season, Huron's JV team blew them out 40-0 and started letting linemen run the ball and freshman who had to be brought up started playing linemen spots, and half of them from that 2008 season were on willow runs 2009 varsity, this past year.. So willow run is nothing special so thats nothing, and huron went downhill after the CC loss, as many will agree, so thats nothing to brag about either… So, now, where's the "they got better as the season went on"? I'm not trying to dog on them, but i don't see where they're getting to be so special.

    KC

  53. Im pretty sure Jefferson, Airport, and Milan beat Riverview in track pretty bad, and i think SMCC did but I'm not for sure.

  54. Who really cares what's being talked about and said as long as it's not being derogatory to a teenage and it's about Huron league sports!

I can't wait for the season to begin! Good luck all!

  55. your right BN Antoneli is fast, but Cusamano, Yinger, and Lamour are fastest on team no doubt.

    Bring it home CC

  56. EXACTLY! howey isnt even returning to play for football, so even if he is a state champ in his 4 events he qualifyed foe WGAF !!!
if your going to go off-football topic and talk track, then talk about some of the returner-ees (yeah i made that up for the sake of a point being made)

  57. Huron struggled after the CC loss to say the least. Riverview got stronger as season went on. Huron has a horrible track record, Riverview has one of the best. It's quite simple really.

    -BN

  58. It's not about hating the winners. It's about all the "non-player" SMCC big mouths on here who must be in love with there school mates.

  59. Who cares what Howey or anybody else did in a TRACK meet. This is a football blog. Howey isn't playing next year, so who cares what he runs. It doesn't matter!

  60. no im pretty sure ppl dont hate smcc or huron on these blogs, but when you know your good at the sport and then you brag about it on this blog..then people get upset at your school.

its not just bcuz these schools are good in these sports so dont say that

  61. Some people always hate the winners (smcc in football and huron in basketball). All you have to do is read both blogs to figure it out and it's not going to change. There will always be people out there who will hate the winners.

Go falcons! gonna miss playin with you guys, last year was awesome. go win leagues and keep pissen people off by winnin. only can control whats on the field baby.

  63. "Lets face it people, SMCC out scored it's league opponents by an average of 20 pts per game. They return 15 starters and are poised to do exactly the same thing…"

Well right there is where I'll correct you =] Huron lost to CC by 1 point this past season. And after that is when we started going downhill in our season. CC might be good but to only win by 1 point against a team who is out casted only shows one thing; Huron has the defense to stop CC's run and other schools are still trying to get CC's running game down pat. If huron works on our offense, our name could very well be up there with all the others. People can say what they want about Huron and keep outcasting us but we've got the talent we just have to work more on our offense and play calling and tweak our defenses.

Anyways, what I want to know is what puts Riverview up high on the list when they finished as low as huron did with a 3-6 season? Can someone inform me where all there talent will co0me from?

    KC

  64. howey won the 100 in 11.0, won the 400 in 50.5, second in the 200 at 22.74, and was on a 4×4 relay that won. Connor qualified for longjump (not sure on distance), and maybe the 4×1. he was third in the 100 in 11.28. suprisingly he did not make it for the high jump. thats all ive got

  65. Who cares what topic is bring talked about whether it's track football baseball basketball or luge it doesn't matter so guess what it's not football season yet, these spring sports make your team better for football anyways so a discussion about the track times should be talked about.

Okay howey gets all the attention in both sports it seems, funny how nobody else talks about smcc's other athletes that are either decent or good too.

  66. Who does GI play at home this year? I know they have SMCC at home but much to the chagrin of the GI faithful, SMCC brings the T with them on the road.

  67. SITOFN, still havent seen your predictions as to where the wins will come from this year. I am interested in hearing just who the Red Devis will beat. I do think they will be tough to beat at home but will struggle away from the island. Why do I think that, not sure really. .. just a feeling I get when it comes to GI.

  68. Athletic.net takes human error into consideration and automatically adds time to all races from the 400 on down. Howey probably ran a 49.89 and the system moved it to 50.0. I think adding .11 to a time is fair. The system usually adds .24 to all 100 M times.

  69. I went to athletic.net and the fastest time Howey has in the 400m is 50.0 flat. This was done against Grosse Ile a few days ago. He also ran 11.0 flat in the 100m at the Jefferson Invite and 10.9 in the 100m -relay split against Huron. So I think you are right, I don't think any has broke 50.0 in the 400m.

  70. i dont think anyone from cc ran a 49.8 in the 400. howey is like low 51s but i think sub 51 is pushing it. well regionals for all huron league teams is tomorrow, so we'll see then !

  71. Been on this site when it first started off of mlive. Was just playing with ya J.W. Dont be so sensitive.

  72. J.W. just to let you know if Ida, Dundee, and Erie are added to the Huron League SMCC would still be the smallest school, well according to this years enrollment on the MHSAA website anyway.

    SMCC 423
    Ida 557
    Dundee 464
    Erie Mason 497

These will change by next year I'm sure. If these schools are added they will probably have 2 divisions, which teams will be in what division?

  73. Don't hate? Those words have been said on this blog more than a few times. If you had been here awhile you would have read them yourself. That was in no way hating.

Also, don't just jump on a site and start calling out people, when you havn't been here until recently. Thats the one good thing about this site, it's not filled with a bunch of narrow-minded sh*t talkers. Lets keep it that way.

    J.W.

  74. Yea if that happened atleast we wouldn't have to hear all the CC fanboys trying to brag about them being the smallest school and doing well in the, as they make it sound, HUGE Huron League.

    j.w.

  75. Trust me when I tell you that you don't want to be a player, parent, coach or fan of an OH4 team. Then repeat to BOOT….

    I T ' S P A I N F U L ! ! and I wouldn't wish it on anyone…well maybe 1 or 2 I can think of 😉

I didn't and couldn't predict that, but I DID PREDICT a rebound last year much to the dismay of many.

Yep…all the comments about D, not beating a winning team in years, etc, etc are all correct… but that doesn't mean GI is a fluke or lucky, rather just learning how to win again.

5-4 ain't bad, it just ain't good enough and the GI gridders know it.

Coach B has got numbers, talent, leadership and some JV surprises to fill the grad holes which means….

You better be strapped up tight when you cross that bridge boys!!!

    SITOFN

  76. I think it would be great to have Ida, Dundee and Erie come aboard. They might have a tough time in the league at first, but the more local teams the better. Just think, GI could go 0-12 if they joined!

  77. What does everyone think about Ida Erie and Dundee joining the HL? From what I hear it is most likely going to happen. The LCAA will most likely break up with Onsted and Hudson leaving due to travel costs. The best case scenario would be to have a 12 team league with 2 divisions of 6. Play every team in your division with 2 crossovers and 2 non league games. Any thoughts?

  78. yes, its up to the coaches to post results on athletic.net but for some big invites the host team puts all results on, but the league should be the fastest ever in the 100/200/400 this yr for the league meet next tuesday.

  79. Your wrong…SMCC won by 7, 17-10 and could have scored at the end if they wanted to. I think SMCC has a tough schedule this year. They open at Detroit Crockett, then are home vs Jefferson and then at Riverview. These first 3 games aren't going to be cakewalks and I think they know that. Then their last two league games are at Airport and home vs Milan. I can't wait for the season to start and I think the league will be tough with a few teams capable of beating some top teams. Good luck to all teams!!

  80. smcc only beat riverview by four points last year this year there going to there house were riverview won there last 2 games last year
28-6 vs milan and 28-6 vs willow run they also beat huron 23-3 (but who cant beat huron) some of riverviews line men can probley beat dex teen in a 40 they got fast linemen and fast PLAYERS at that.

  81. "Im a Riverview plyer adn we wont go 9-0? wel have a strong and good season but 9-0 is pushign it. NO WAY is Milan the fastest tea,, by any means"

If you a riverview player I'd work on becoming eligible before worrying about going 9-0…

  82. Thats a 50/50 shot saying a team will be better than everyone thought. Also, anyone who is rooting for their own team almost ALWAYS says the exact same thing.

Anyways, all the predictions are in good fun, but how does anyone know how hard the other teams were working in the off season? I've been here since before this page had 1000 hits, and like it was said last season, " Week 1 will tell us alot."

    J.W.

  83. SITOFN, Where do you play Milan this year? If you have them at home I think you will beat either them or Riverview, with a shot at beating both of them for your 6th and all important win. Ida, at Ida, wont be a gimme like it was last year.

    -BN

  84. RE: "I hate to tel you this B. N. but connor isnt as fast as cousamano, lamour or Yinger."

I would say Jack is faster but not as quick from side to side(shifty). Yinger is a straight up runner with power (210lbs) but lacks shiftiness as well. Schmidt combines all the elements needed to be a great back, (speed, power and vision). When I watched him as a frosh I was amazed. He was 5 notches above anyone else out there. I was bitterly dissapointed he didnt play his sophomore year. Now he is back and only adds to the stable. I look forward to all these horses showing us what they can do. They are all very good and will be a joy to watch. Dont forget about Antonelli. AUG 27 GET HERE!

    -BN

  85. SMCC starts out with the brutal portion of their schedule. They travel to downtown "D" to face D3Crockett then play the bitter rivals D4 Jefferson then travel to D3 Riverview(which in my eyes will be the toughest game all year). If they come out of that 3-0, I think they may have a state title to win.

    -BN

  86. Come on Chris SITOFN is a homer. Of course he said that. Why give him any credit for saying they would be better than 0-9. They still did not beat anybody that was worth a darn.

Let's hear your prediction this year SITOFN. I have them going 5-4 just missing the playoffs. I know you think they will be in the top 3 which to me is laughable. So, what is your prediction. I went as far as to say who they would beat. You go 3-4 in league play beating Huron, FR and Riverview(only because it is at your place). You finish 5-4 beating DW and Ida(in a close game). Let's hear where I am wrong and just how far off I am.

    -BN

  87. Don't know how accurate this site is since it doesn't show all results for all weeks. It must be up to the track coach to post…

    http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Division/Top.aspx?DivID=24596

And a quick look shows these times in the 100. I am not sure if all play football or not….

    Leo Pittman 11.24 Milan
    DeAndre Mitchell 11.34 Milan
    Eric Morrow 11.44 Jefferson
    Jodeci Mays 11.44 Airport
    Shaquille Couch 11.44 Milan
    Sterling Wilson 11.64 Huron
    Desmond Lowe 11.64 Huron

  88. Lets face it people, SMCC out scored it's league opponents by an average of 20 pts per game. They return 15 starters and are poised to do exactly the same thing… dominate. I do think the league will be better as a whole but to be honest the rest of the teams are playing for 2nd place. Anyone who disagrees is just a homer and has little knowledge. Sure SMCC could lose a game but nobody but SMCC will have less then two losses in the league. And all they do is run up the middle every play. Seems like it would be a no brainer on how to stop them since that is all they do. They do it with the smalles players as well. puzzling.

  89. Grosse Ile will return some of the same old cupcakes that they've had on the D for a few years now – Until they get a few bruisers out there or learn to play D they will NEVER compete with the upper echelon in th league. No D means no championships – period.

  90. BN – My predictions of GI success in the wake of GI doom and gloom on the 2009 blog. (including the moderator in the beginning I might add)

I think Chris would even back up my contrairian accuracy in the 2009 campaign.

Gotta love the non-believers…but as someone said previously, they'll believe when GI beats someone with a winning record…. that hurt, but was spot on!

    SHOW ME THE "D" GI!!!!

    SITOFN

  91. There is track speed and football speed. There is a difference. Schmidt has football speed to spare and yes he is playing.

  92. Im a Riverview plyer adn we wont go 9-0? wel have a strong and good season but 9-0 is pushign it. NO WAY is Milan the fastest tea,, by any means

  93. Schmidt is not even close to the fastest, i remember he ran track for smcc, def not the fastest. As a cc guy, Milan does probably have the fastest KIDS (such as skill players), but maybe not the fastest team. SMCC has a quick line, and backs thats are fast. Not quite as fast as the Milan skill players, but close. Airport has mays, but he really is not that fast, sure he is quick but i would not call him "fast as hell" by any means whatsoever.

  94. To BN…yeah I saw Connor play freshman year on the freshman team and heard he was thinking about playing this year. Do you know for sure if he's playing or is it still up
    in the air?

  95. RE: SITOFN (I nailed it last year, could I be 2 for 2? Only time will tell…)

    What did you nail exactly?

    -BN

  96. There is so little difference this year between Jefferson, Airport, Riverview and Milan that any of those games could go either way. You could even throw GI in the mix at home. I think GI will struggle on the road.

  97. The fastest kid on CC's team this year will be Connor Schmidt. He didnt play last year to concentrate on hockey. He played as a freshman and had about 25 td's. Remember the name.

    -BN

  98. Love the football talk =] and over exaggeration from the riverview people… I know me being a huron player/fan and such, im no one to talk, but RV will not go 9-0.. not in this day and time. And Milan isn't the fastest team? CC has a great backfield, Airport has mays who is fast as hell, Jefferson has quite a few fast runners from what ive seen in track.. I don't see milans runners in that list of fast times? But i could be wrong. but i know im right when I say RV will not go 9-0.

    KC

  99. ehh idk if milan has the fastest team in the league, sure their quick but Airport, SMCC, and Jefferson have at least 3-5 backs that are quick. im sure river-who has some quick kids but not that much in depth

on another note…them to go 9-0? you might as well do your talking now bcuz after week one/two talk will be done.

  100. Really Milan has the fastest team this year? No way? Smcc has by far the best team sead with Lamour, Cousimano, Yinger and Pannone.

  101. Milan has never won an outright title in the Huron Leaque. They have only won 2 playoff games since the start of the decade. They are now the largest school in the league doubling 3 schools. No excuses for Milan, let's see if they can get it done. I thought Milan was fast last year going 6-4 while beating only 1 team with a winning record, that being Grosse Ile.

  102. milan has the fastest team in the huron league who is going to stop that??? SMCC NO AIRPORT NO RIVERVIEW NO.COME ON NOW

  103. Riverview has beaten SMCC twice over the last ten year by a total of 7 points. All they did was run the ball then too.

  104. Anonymous who said Riverview will go 9-0…are you kidding?? Don't get me wrong I think they will be improved and could surprise some teams this year, but 9-0 is really pushing it. Even though airport lost their coach they still have some talent and everyone knows what smcc is going to run yet they still beat everyone last year so I don't know where you are going with that.

  105. Let them talk now, cause come early to midseason the GI, Riverview, and Jefferson supporters will have nothing to say. GI has no D, Riverview doesn't have the talent yet, and if Jefferson doesn't improve dramatically in the trenches it will be a repeat of last season. Once again, SMCC and Airport will be the cream of the crop. EM

  106. SITOFN, I prefer Shiner Bock. You can get that right here in the good ole USA. My team comes to the island this year, cant wait.

    -BN

  107. Riverview 9-0 this year the only team that has a chance to beat us is jefferson, forget SMCC they run the same play every play maby a pass now and then. not that good of a passing game, airport lost there long time coach, it takes a good coach to win, and GI, huron, and Flatrock are all jokes, and don"t forget The pirates varsity and JV killed milan the JV LB injured 5 players that game, there just a bunch of FARM BOYS!
    GO PIRATES!!!

  108. Hey there BN…..be sure to stop at the duty free and pick-up some KOKANEE on the way home from the Ceasars.

Your gonna need it…BTW you're on.

    SITOFN

  109. We have covered this already. Detroit Western had a 5-4 record but two of those wins were by forfiet. They did not make the playoffs.

  110. Let the Season Begin! I believe that you have SMCC in the correct spot. Riverview is way too high up in the standings should be down at the #6 spot. Other than that there will be a toss up between Milan, Jefferson, Airport and GI. GI will be strong this year with both the JV and Varsity having winning seasons last year. A ton of returners and good group moving up. Missing Teen will be huge, but others will take his place. We will have the best of both worlds, a great running game with many backs, a great passing game with many receivers that have the experience and ability to suprise.

  111. CC repeat league champs and will bring home a ring…….
yes everyone bash smcc now bc i made this comment. were used to it…we love to be hated..gives us firepower.

    its not being cocky
its being confident, and playing like a team

  112. RE: "If so, that is even a larger hurdle to get over for Airport. It doesnt mean the kids will respect him like they respected Redmond."- Are you saying that the players for this coming season won't respect coach Barber?? ummm lets see he has been a teacher and a coach for the school for a while now and im about 98.76363528% sure that a majority of the kids like/respect him (sarcasm on the % if you cant catch that)

so to say the Jets are going to be barely above the rams and huron is flat out a joke…

How soon they forget. Airport ALWAYS finished just above Huron and FR. Only until Redmond got there did they start to play winning football. I am probably not going to convince you of much but if you cant see why the Jets might take a step or two back this year then you need to open your eyes. I understand you have school spirit and that is a great thing but they will find things a bit more difficult this year in my eyes.

Redmond and Reed meant everything to that program and now they are gone. That is enough reason for me to bring them down a notch. Plus they play the toughest schedule in the HL.

    -BN

  113. Before you start pounding your chest again SITOFN… let it be known that your Red Devils havent beaten a team with a winning record since the 2004 season. That is 5 seasons of not beating anyone. I think you may beat one team this year with a winning record but that will be hard to come by.

    -BN

  114. I most certainly will take a barley pop wager that GI will not finish top 3 in league standings.

    -BN

  115. "If so, that is even a larger hurdle to get over for Airport.

  116. This will be a great year for the Huron league for sure. It will be intresting to see how the Airport kids adapt with Redmond gone. riverview did step the game up later in the season and I also look for them to be very competive. Smcc is returning alot of starters and also should be very strong. Jefferson has a very tough bunch of seniors this year. I believe they are returning 11 starters and I look for them to be very tough this year. They ran into a bunch of team problems last season and it split the team.

Gonna be a great season for sure.

  117. SITOFN, GI beat nobody last year. You have to beat CC, Jefferson, Riverview, Milan or Airport this year to get any respect. I do think you will win one of those games this year and finish with another 5-4 mark just missing the playoffs.

  118. GI was pre-season picked to be OH4 in the league last year and just missed the play-offs (5-4). And that was with 2 grosse (pardon the punn) losses to Jefferson and Milan.

Lets see here… returning arguably the best offensive skill players sans RB. Certainly one of the best O lines and a ton of returning letterman. SSSShhhhh, but GI might have a Dex Teen replacement surprise too?

Coming in rated at 6th place this year after the '09 team that was left for dead last year went 5-4 …JUST WHERE WE WANT TO BE!!!!!

I can hear the rumblings now about "winds of change" and any other metaphor GI unbelievers don't like….but when will the non-believers believe??

Hold on tight boys….storm clouds are rollin' in off Lake Erie AGAIN this year. If GI shows up with a D, possible top 2/3 finish.

Any takers for a barley-pop wager that GI finishes top 3, not bottom 3??…Strap it up tight boys.

SITOFN (I nailed it last year, could I be 2 for 2? Only time will tell…)

  119. In response:

It took a season for the Pirates to get acquainted with the new coach's system. Once they got on track they were a pretty darn good team at season's end. I am not saying they will go undefeated but I think a 6-3 mark is certainly attainable for Riverview. Remember Riverview has been one of the quality programs in the state for quite some time. Yes they have been down for a few years but Sterg' will get things rolling down river.

About the RIV JV squad, beating Milan was no feat last year. Milan was HORRIBLE. CC beat them 56-0. Injuries(depth) is part of the game and should never be an excuse for why a team lost.

About Airport, Redmond was the heart and soul of that program. He took it from being one of the worst in the state to making the playoffs every year. That is quite an accomplishment. Just because the new coach knows the system doesnt mean he can teach it like Redmond. Did Reed and/or Hall follow him to Monroe? If so, that is even a larger hurdle to get over for Airport. It doesnt mean the kids will respect him like they respected Redmond. I think it is very logical to say that Airport will take a step back this year. To their credit they scheduled two pretty tough opponents in week 1 and 9. I happen to think think they will lose both and go 4-3 in the HL. The league will be very even this year with SMCC being the cream and Huron and FR being the also rans. Everyone else however will be pretty darn even and pretty darn good in my opinion. I know they return maybe the best RB in the league last year and some other quality players but they also lost quite a bit. My prediction still stands at 4-5 for the Jets with week one being huge as far as how their season will go.

Glad to get some discussion going again… this will be a fun season.

    -BN

  120. Huron 6-3? what how do you expect them to be 6-3 there losing everyone good, who do they got that is going to fill in for those positions?

  121. Week 1 and 9 are losses for Airport? You must be joking. Franklin will be tough, but I am more than confident they can beat Bedford. Its not like Bedford runs some high powered spread that usually gives the good Huron League teams trouble. Just like Airport they have to replace a strong senior class. Should be a good game, but to call it an automatic loss is just dumb.

  122. Ok just because JV pirates went 3-6 doesn't mean they don't have skilled players don't you guys remember when they killed milan at the end of the season! don't forget they don't have that good of coaches on the JZ team, at least Stergalas can finally steer the team into the right direction instead of what nick gross did this is the year of the Pirates!!

  123. Barber is stepping up to Head Coach for Airport. He knows the system, and has ALREADY been teaching it. Airport will not be barely ahead of Flat Rock and Huron, thats a damn joke. Riverview didn't do a damn thing last season, and everyone is acting like they will be in the top three based off what? Getting kicked around all last season? A coach? I dont see it.

I did see the top RB in the league run all over everyone, and guess what he's back.

A coach can be good but if the players dont have talent the team loses, period.

    j.w.

  124. The Riverview J.V squad was down to their 4th string qb ( their fullback!) and they suffered from injuries throughout the entire season. the two games they were at their full strength they pounded Crestwood and Milan

  125. To the poster that said…."Riverview has a very strong junior class and has a good crop of talented sophomores" How many games did the JV team win last year? wasn't it just one or two? . They may be strong, but they can't play football.

  126. Riverview has a very strong junior class and has a good crop of talented sophomores, Stergalas will have them ready to compete for league

  127. Obviously it is early but I'm basing my thoughts on Riverview on how they improved over the course of the season and their defense. They will have arguably the best player in the league and their run defense will be excellent.

I have Airport lower based solely on the fact that Eric Redmoond is gone and they have a rookie head coach. Redmond was one of the best coaches in the league period. You must have good coaching to win games. Airport has an unknown right know but a rookie is a rookie.

  128. 1)SMCC
    2)Airport
    3)Milan
    4)Jefferson
    5)Grosse Ile
    6)Riverview
    7)Huron
    8)Flat Rock

This is my take on the season. 1 through 3 will be solid in their places.

Number 4 and 5 are the wild cards. I gave Jefferson the 4 spot depending on what GI does with their defense. If they show up then GI will move up a notch.

Riverview though improved still will have work to make it into the upper half.

Huron and Flat Rock will fight for the bottom two.

  129. I don't understand why riverview is so highly thought of. Did they have good juniors last year? Have they obtained better players? what have they done to go from bottom to top? just wondering.

  130. wow okay now just because Airport lost Redmond doesn't mean another Playoff birth under a new coach isn't out of the picture. Yeah, its going to be different N all but the program is still going to succeed. Solid JV last year so expect a lot of starters for Juniors and maybe a sophmore or two, but don't count the season out already people…

  131. Huron i think will be losing a amazing linebacker and a good QB but look from them to have a great offensive line with only losing one senior at tackle, and run the ball a lot more than they have been over the last years. there defense should be good but look for them to be young at linebackers. huron will be 6-3

  132. To be honest Chris the top 5 could be in any order. Predicting this year is just too hard. SMCC would be the easiest to put at #1 but they could certainly lose a game or 2. Riv, Jeff, Air and Milan are all very evenly matched in my opinion. Boy, am I excited for this season or what! Great battles ahead in the Huron league almost from top to bottom with GI being a team that could sneak up on you.

I will give it my attempt at forecasting with records included.

    1) SMCC 9-0(7-0)
    2) Jefferson 6-3(5-2)
    3) Milan 6-3(4-3)
    4) Riverview 6-3(4-3)
    5) GI 5-4(3-4)
    6) Airport 4-5(4-3)
    7) Huron 2-7(1-6)
    8) FR 1-8(0-7)

  133. SMCC, Riverview, Airport, Jefferson and Milan will have epic battles this year. Will be fun to see. FYI, this group of seniors for the Bears were 9-0 as JV and didnt have a close game. I would put Jefferson up a couple notches.
