Open Forum

Pretty slow week for Huron League football (except for the hate mail). I will be doing my prediction for my beloved SMCC Falcons (haha) on Wednesday.

I am going to open up the floor for anything. Please keep it clean and positive. This is an open forum so please throw it out there.

  1. Cogan is a heck of a high school player. I got the chance to see him on a Thursday night in Week 2 and he was very impressive. With over 1,000 yards receiving this year, he has to be a lock for all-state.

  2. Eric Cogan got Region Offensive player of the year, and Tyler Weclowski got Defensive if i remember correctly.

I know Riopelle, Baker, Mays, and Jones from Airport made all region as well.

  3. to 8:09…I agree the Huron and Milan faithful have been quiet too.

Got to be quiet in the woods this time of year for sure…I'm leaving tomorrow.

  4. To be fair, Milan never had a very big following.

I suppose I was just being facetious about the Jets not talking much any more.

A-11 is a crazy offense. Personally, I like the double-wing, straight T, but the pro-style offense is also nice.

  5. Airport fans arent gone…most of us still read the blog but were done with the season so why would we talk about ourselves? you can say the same for huron and milan i havent heard from them in awhile either…

  6. I don't think any of the T formations are really a good offense. Its a deception offense that creates extra holes at the line of scrimmage. It relies heavily on execution and the belly/trap. There are easy ways of beating it, such as the wide 7 or 4-4 defenses, but no coach really wants to install a completely different defense for 1 game in their league or 1 game in the playoffs. But hey…if no one wants to stop it, why not run it.

I agree about the spread. It's overrated at HS level because most teams don't have the talent and end up running a watered-down version. Or think they have the talent and end up looking really bad.

I prefer a pro offense. 2 back set with 1-2 TE/1-2 WR and a QB that can throw 30 yards with some accuracy. You're going to need some extra meat on the line and the defense usually gets easy reads, but its coming at you and you're being dared to stop it. I guess I'm a simple guy.

Now what about the A-11 offense? That looks like a pick-up game in pads.

  7. you guys want to know where all of the Airport fans went? well lets see Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 just came out so most likely we are all just playing that game!! lol

  8. Best offense in HS football is the wing T or the Full house T or the straight T or my personal favorite the double wing. All involve overpowering at the point of attack and can be donw with less than average talent. All this shotgun spread stuff is ruining the game at the HS level. Too many coaches think they have the talent to do it and really dont. The T makes ok teams(which most HS teams are) good teams and that is the coaches job.. to make his team better, to give his team a chance to win.

  9. I do like the Rivalry week idea very much….and per HLF, make it in the middle of the season and rotate the game 8's based on HL supremecy.

    BUT WHO/WHAT DETERMINES SUPREMECY?????..now theres a BLOG.

GIs' White lost Teen, Church, Nussbaum and Tascoff and some Key O and D line meat …. you better check your data if that means all is gone!!
GIs' Camreon, Curtis, Radcliff, Klarr, Berlinski, Burr, Alongi, Groff, Butler, Kish, Cuddy, Church2, Judd, Gape are just a few who may have a say in that.
Winds of ch…..?? You bet, NO WAY GI GOES TO BASEMENT boys .. Strap it tight against GI, REAL TIGHT!

Great picks for Rivalry week A-Blogger….sign your stuff.

Sooner or later, Mr, Weclowski will get his due…including some College $….most likely D2.

AND YES….where are all Airport fans?? Certainly a NARROW Blog performance from them since bowing out. (actually "narrow" all year if you know what I mean)

  10. i dont want to turn this into mLive either but whats going on down at Monroe? did some coaches leave? who? on their own? that just means Redmonds not leaving Airport if the head coach at Monroe fired/made changes of some of his coaches, a few more years at least for him.

  11. Rivalry week is an excellent idea but there is no way I would put that the last week of the season.

I would like to see rivarly week a little earlier in the season say week 5. I would then like to see teams like Airport and SMCC matched up week 8.

I would definetley like to see a shake up in the schedule somewhere. Some teams have a murderer's row somewhere in the schedule. Others have three patsies early in the season. Mix the schedules up, play the rivalries week 5 and make sure Airport and SMCC play week 8.

  12. Another guy's thoughts/comments/questions

Airport looked good while in shotgun against Chelsea. Why not try it more?

Will Riverview be a playoff team next year?

Is Robbie White going to emerge as a true star next year? Or will he crumble without Teen and Co.?

Where have all the Airport fans gone?

If you were to become a coach, which offense would you implement?

Coach Robb must have done a very good job coaching this year with only 2 first team all-leaguers on a playoff team.

SMCC really benefits from playing division 6. (I know that they can't do anything about it. It's a positive for them and the league.)

Every team has some good returning players. Sterling/McCullough (J), Mays/Williams (A), White (GI), Dunn/Mitchell(M), Bosman (R), Wilson (H), O-Line (CC).

  13. Who do you think got offensive player of the year for the region and defensive player of the year for the region, and do you believe anyone from the huron league will get all state and if so who?

  14. Chris,
    Another topic for ya..

Coaches, and AD's have been talking about making week 8 "Rivalry Week" in the Huron League what do people think about this?

    SMCC vs Jefferson
    Milan vs Airport
    Riverview vs. GI
    Flat Rock vs. Huron

  15. CC had plastic horns that the kids where blowing through and Blissfield had actual airhorns (produced by canned air)maybe CO2.not sure excatly.I belive those are not allowed at games anymore.Ones thing for sure it didnt change the out come of the game….GO FALCONS…

  16. Those horns sure as heck were annoying. I wondered the same. There are pictures on the monroe evening news website if you care to press charges against any of the students who were using them. But…I truly think the air horns are the one's that are banned. A kid had one at the CC-Jefferson game and I saw he was warned a couple of times, then asked to leave.

  17. Here is a something that might create some fun and flames….

GI back to the basement next Year!! ……why you ask?

    1) Key skill players are gone
    2) Key OL/DL size graduated
    3) JV, while better, still finished 5-4 and not going to prime-the-pump
    4) Same ol coaches
    5) Same ol D
    6) Won't have a cushy home game advantage
    7) Couldn't strap it tight if it was a seat belt!

What say you HL BLOGGERS??…… This is a test of your knowledge.

  18. I just heard that the Monroe News sports staff picked Tyler Weclowski as the Monroe News Defensive Player of the Year. Congratulations Tyler and all of the Huron League players who made this team!

  19. HLF will always get trounced by SMCC and GI haters….why, because thats the "easy" way for narrow-minded people to express opinions.

Actual data, analysis, honesty, football knowledge and willingness to be self-critical are traits haters don't possess.

I've seen it all on this BLOG; the have's vs the have nots, recruiting, jealousy, mis-information….you name it.

Chris only blocked a few posts (that we know of) for which I give him HUGE credit. He allowed a place to rant….BUT, rant on your own team because HATE on others is juvenile and despicable.

Take your hate to M-Live..my $0.02.

  20. To the comment about the horns at the game, the PA announcer did mention something about that. Not exactly sure what he said though. I think both sides had them, but I think the kind they were using were ok to use. I am not for certain though. I am pretty you can use certian ones and others you can't use.

  21. Can't wait to hear all the hater comments on how you love smcc. Great job. Go falcons!

One question I have to ask did anyone realize the horns smcc had at there last game? Is there a restriction to those. Huronleaguefootball do you know?

  22. If you honestly earned "thousands" of dollars(haha) I say you give back to the people who have been here throughout the whole season and helped make it a great blog.

Anyways excellent blog, I know you made a basketball one as well. I only hope that you dont get "blogged-out" so to speak and that these sites aren't a 1 season and done type of thing. I had a good time reading what everyone had to say, well the things that made sense and had facts to back them up anyways.

    Good Job,

    j.w.
