Week 8 Picks Part II

Huron/Grosse Ile: Huron has won the last two in this series including last years game 49-21 as the Red Devils took Huron’s place in the basement of the league the last two years. Prior to that Grosse Ile recorded 18 straight victories over Huron.

Huron has fallen on hard times lately as they haven’t been able to recover from their narrow loss to SMCC in week 4. After high expectations the Chiefs can salvage the season somewhat by beating GI and Crestwood and finishing 4-5.

Grosse Ile has a chance to finish the season at 5-4 if they can slip by the Chiefs then beat Ida in week 9. That would be a huge turnaround for a team that had lost 20 straight entering the season.

This could be a fun game to watch this week if Huron decides to trust their coach and just play. GI loves the offensive side of the ball and so does Huron. Each team has an excellent quarterback, running back and receiver and the difference may come down to the defenses stepping up. I think Huron has a chance to win this if they play their best game. My gut says the Chiefs might but they have let me down the last few weeks. GI wins this game 27-24.

Jefferson/SMCC: Jefferson has won two in a row against their arch-rivals in this series and much like this year each time SMCC had the better team. Jefferson has also won 7 out of the last 10 against the Catholics.

Jefferson has gotten back on track the last few weeks against Riverview and Flat Rock. Those two teams aren’t world beaters by any stretch but confidence can go a long way when your playing a good team. Jefferson has been running the ball better and teams must respect their quarterback.

SMCC is quite simply, rolling along. The Falcons are peaking at the right time and two more wins against quality opponents could help them immensely as the State playoffs approach.

I’m guessing that this game will be the usual hard fought game that you see every year from these two teams. This also may be one of the fastest games you’ll see all year as their probably won’t be many passes. Don’t be surprised if the Bears bite the Falcons again this year but I’m going with the team I picked to win the league 27-14

  1. It's official, Rustayo is a SMCC and GI hater and in love with Airport. Plus, he completely purjured himself from a previous post…. DUDE, YOUR GUILTY OF BIAS and negative posts!

So the cat is out of the bag and most of us will know that his posts are utter GARBAGE and filled with spite and venom. He'll continue to offer a one-sided slant that only respects his AIRPORT football knowledge. And lets be clear, you couldn't give credit where credit is due if you were Chase Bank!!

We'll look forward to his future posts….to skip over that is!

SITOFN…and I'm sorry for not signing 10/15 @ 9:07, not on purpose I just forgot.

  2. Believe me I began my career with GI, they are weak, they have no history of winning, they give up in games, their character doesn't exist. That's why it pains me, I said Huron could make the playoffs, and right now they are 2-5, and I think they are worse than Grosse Ile. So Anonymous, at least take credit if you will truly stand up to me. Otherwise, respect my football knowledge. If I was biased I would state my true opinions, such as Steve Robb is a bad coach with the best league talent, I hate SMCC and want them to loose, I wish GI was banished from the league, Airport is the greatest team ever. Instead, you see me try to give credit where credit is due while it drives me crazy to pick SMCC over anyone. Anonymous is another term for scared, so come out of hiding people.

  3. Hey Rustayo…you just broke your arm trying to pat yourself on the back for "trying not write out of bias"……PLEASE STOP.

To be clear, this is not my opinion, it's a matter of fact based on your own words: "pains me to pick, not a good team, they hate"

Step up to the plate and admit you are biased and the hypocracy of trying to say you aren't just plain smells bad. IT'S OK root for your team(s), just don't try to act like you don't and PLEASE forgo the bias against others with spite and venom.

Could it be your one of the "haters" out there???? It's your post, not mine that seems to say so. You all know who you are.

  4. Enough said about the "Oley Incident"… The bears may have been out of cync a little bit after this happened but he wasn't the team….yes he was good and made a horrible mistake that affected his whole team… but as we all know a team consists of more than 1 indivdual! The bears have many individuals that are extremely talanted that you all may not recognize as your so called "Friday Night Stars" yet….and it maybe because these individuals know what a team truely consists of (i.e. a fullback nor halfback can get yardage if their line isn't doing there job)! These boys(all of them) have worked hard, sticking together win or lose through adversity and has shown enormous heart stepping up to the plate when given the opportunity and giving one another credit where credit is due! We as adults; parents and coaches both should be encouraging our children to do their best…striving to reach their goals…never giving up…never giving in…and I have seen this in these young men! So I can honestly say win or lose Friday night this team will still walk away a winner because they have learned what it means to be a team! After saying that I'm picking the Bears to win 24-17!

  5. You are only talking about the stat leaders..Sr. or Jr…they all respect each other.they are not out to gain yours…again another hater.CC's team respects the SR's,Jr's.,coaching and their endless support.Respect breeds success.

  6. Give it up. Smcc shows leadership as a whole it's called tradition. Tradition of excellence on and off the field of being leaders. I don't think cc has any incidents like jeffersons. Because smcc has class

  7. yes it really is us parents doing the hating and writing on the blogs talking smack becasue for most of these schools the know better then not to post anything bad because they have disipline

  8. no smcc doesnt have the best senior leadership!!! and about the jr leadership. as of what us fans can see from the stands the only leaders are pannone howey lovell wilson and labeau. none the year 2nd year jrs or the kicker.. oh an the hoss thats pushin it.

  9. People love to hate CC…they are a good team that is well coached and other schools hate it.These are just young men doing what they love…rivalries are great, but us as parents are the haters.Cc boys dont talk smack any more than any other team, alot of these kids are friends off the field.CC will have its hands full this week..still CC 40…Jefferson 14…I know you hate it!

  10. yes smcc has the seniors who are great leaders Labeau, Miracle, Lovell, Howey and along with Gonyea, Wilson, Pannone, Moore, Laplantte, Collins, and Burkardt those juinors who have already played with the seniors have respect because SMCC is a team who respects thier elders and team.
thats one thing coach Giarmo shows.
    Discpline and respect.

  11. BEAR's, simply because this is their biggest game every year. The TRUE rivalry in the Huron League. GOOOOOOOOOOO BEARS..

    "REGION FAN"

  12. You always count on your Seniors for leadership the kicker is CC has Jr leadership as well.Seniors are there and the Jrs. are there to back them up…Its called a team.

  13. SMCC 28-Jefferson 14
Jefferson has responded pretty well after the Mike Oley incident, albiet their wins coming against Riverview and Flat Rock. SMCC should have some pride and be able to win, even though Jefferson is the team that needs to be playing with urgency. I'd love to see Jefferson win, however, I think they are still not a good team and SMCC is playing inspired football

    GI 28, Huron 21
I say if Huron loses their coach should be fired, there is no excuse for the remarkable collapse put on by Huron. If Huron has any ounce of pride they'll win by 3 TD's, but have you seen their last few games? That pride is not there. GI is at least still trying. It pains me to pick GI, but I haven't seen anything from Huron since that valiant effort against SMCC for me to pick them against Detroit Western.

    Milan 26, Riverview 7
Milan should come out motivated, this win puts them in the playoffs. While Riverview has been playing relatively well and hard, they still shouldn't be able to beat Milan. There is still a chance for Milan to get a rematch vs Airport in the playoffs, and if we know anything about Milan, it is that they hate Airport. With the potential chance of revenge, coupled with the easy 2 next games, look for them to win rather easy in both.

    Airport 41, Flat Rock 7
Flat Rock is bitten by a lack of numbers and talent, they play with heart but just can't catch good breaks. Airport is clearly still upset about their loss to SMCC, but they are in a tight race for a home playoff game with Adrian and Chelsea. Winning out could potentially put them as a #1 seed. With this in mind, they should play with a lot of passion from here on out and take care of business.

Still note I try not to write out of bias for teams, even though all of you should know who I'm always rooting for. Other things to note are Bedford is 1 win from a playoff birth, Jefferson could potentially be D-3 if they can pull a miracle these next 2 weeks, and this year looks like still the best potential for Airport and SMCC to go deep in the Playoffs. Those are just some things to think about.

  14. I'm curious to know why smcc's leadership is being questioned? They get enough of it from Howey lovell labeau miracle as well as the other seniors. Also the so called "smiccs" are gonna show up Friday despite the tough competition in the prior weeks.

    38-14 smcc

  15. anonymous, explain yourself when you say smcc is lacking senior leadership. i believe they have it in lovell, howey, and labeau. i don't understand, so could you please explain.

  16. are you kidding me? the bears have senior leadership and cc doesnt?!?! how about there all-star getting kicked off? who do they have thats a leader? their juinors own that team all i have to see is wacth out for jefferson NEXT year when the juinors actually get a chance to play. and look at cc's seniors how many times have one of them got player of the week? enough said. its going to be a close game look out for jefferson to give the catholics a scare but cc comes out on top

  17. If the Bears play as a TEAM like they did the last few weeks (last week especially) I think this will be a great game. They have had alot of adversity this season and its taken some time to pull back together but I seen it last Friday. Lets hope for a close hard fought game come Friday and Go Bears. 24-17

  18. Great call on CC to win.The bears are playing well, but I dont see CC dropping the ball on this one.CC is peaking and are still very hungery, one thing people dont realize is how well prepared Giarmo gets his kids.Barring a total brain fart,CC should run away with this.Still would like to see a hard fought game, but CC's middle of the offensiveline is to tough right now, they have a few boys that could not only should go League and Region, but maybe State as well. And the backs are in the same boat.Tough..Tough..Tough

  19. the bears because of
1)they "need" the win, it would make there year, heck we know when they beat c.c, its the peak some of there lives!
2)they play C.C., as tough as anybody, even when they are outmanned!
    3)the old man.
4)its tough for anyone to get up many weeks in a row like c.c has too.
5)senior leadership, the bears have it, c.c.,is lacking it! and parents, stats do not equal leadership!
