Week 2 Thoughts

Just some idle thoughts and/or questions on the league games this week.

Will SMCC score on a kick or punt return this week?

Will Jefferson’s Bryan McCullough carry the ball every play this week?

Will Huron have visitors bleachers or will Airport fans have to sit on a hill?

Will Grosse Ile have any practices this weekend or do the Islanders all go away for the extended weekend?

Will SMCC throw a single pass this week? Will Flat Rock? Will Jefferson?

Who is the best back in the league?

Is SMCC’s Howey a QB or a signal caller?

Who is faster in the 40? Teen? Mays? or Conner? How about Lamour? Who? Andrew Lamour

  1. Milan didn't "crush" Flatrock. They will have there hands full next week at Airport. And SMCC barley topped Riverview. Some of you people need to watch these games, rather than sit here and chirp about who going to "crush" who.

  2. I know that the other games versus Tecumseh were more lopsided, I guess my point was that if they quit playing Airport because they were getting whooped they would have done it sooner.

And as far as the SEC being head and shoulders better. The schools in that league have many more students than those in the Huron League. According to the enrollment numbers on http://www.michigan-football.com, only two schools (Tecumseh and Chelsea) are smaller than the Huron League's biggest (Airport) and it's by less than 100 students. And with that many more students, they probably should be a little better.

But as it stands, I will take the Huron League's physical style of ball over the SEC's any day of the week.

  3. Airport always plays average/bad in their first game. Hell one year I remember after barely beating tecumseh week one they drew them first round and beat them like 48-7.

    j.w.

  4. Airport v. Tecumseh

The history goes farther then 3 seasons.

    2007 Airport 7-0
    2006 Airport 14-7
    2005 Airport 34-27
    2004 Airport 29-0
    2003 Airport 22-0
    2002 Airport 14-13
    2002 Airport 42-7 (Playoffs)
    2001 Tecumseh 20-8
    2000 Airport 49-14

That's a record of (7-1) in the regular season and (8-1) overall since the teams started playing each other again. TBH, Tecumseh knew they needed to play another team if they had a chance to start their season 1-0.

SEC is probably head and shoulders better then the Huron League, but it does seem that the Huron League teams fair pretty well against the SEC.

(Before Milan came to the Huron League, they pretty much owned the SEC)

SEC teams that probably win the Huron this season:

    Adrian
    Ann Arbor Pioneer
    Chelseas
    Saline

  5. So much for Jefferson manhandling GI. The Devils are going to be something to be reckoned with, if it weren't for a few missed tackles, the islanders would be 2-0 with a huge upset under them heading into Riverview for the Colvin Cup.

  6. Everyone has this big hype about who the best back is in the game. Who cares I dont care if you put LT in the backfield if you dont have a line to block then what good is it? Just like i seen someone say it is a team effort! As for the Gi Jefferson game, Jefferson did underestimate because they have not beat us in years. I will give it to them they got better with out a doubt but gi hasnt won enough to know how to control a win so when they got all pumped and thought they had it in the bag jefferson played for all 48 mins of that football game and played with 2 major thing. TEAM and HEART!! Thats what jefferson has they may not be the biggest but they have the biggest haearts! No one ever says anything about jefferson and always thinks down on them but they have something special this year just be ready.

  7. howey didnt beat pittman. pittman had everyone beat in dual meets but was hurt during league meet in my opinion pittman has the fastest 40 he had everyone beat in the 100 you may say there is a big difference but track if you come of the blocks fast for the first 40 to 50 you win which i think in my opinion pittman does

  8. Reguardless whose team everyone is rooting for I think we all must remember it is a team effort. Not one kid shines over the other because it takes 11 on the field and lord knows how many never even reach the point and stand on the side lines to get the chance to prove themselves. Are so called stars of each game would never get to shine if it wasn't for a team effort!! Every player is needed whether they are on the sidelines waiting to get their chance or on the field blocking and assisting our Stars to win the game. I seen tonight an outstanding attempt by GI's whole team not just Dex Teen to bring the bears down and take a victory home! I want to tell you everyone is definetly is underestimating both of these teams. They both have alot of talent… not just the ones who get the opportunity to run the ball! I believe the bears went in and thought they had the game in the bag and GI proved otherwise! They made the bears work and work hard for every point they made and then made them choke on it by coming back and proving they to were a team of reckoning with. Yes in the end the bears came back and took the victory home but I know they now will think twice to count any out! So I would like to say Great Job to all the players tonight win or loss! In my eyes as a spectator I seen alot of stars tonight from not only the 22 on the field but on the sidelines of each team, the cheerleaders, the band and spectators! This was a game were everyone was sitting on the edge of their seats right to the very end! Amazing!!!

  9. 2007- Airport 7 Tecumseh 0
    2006- Airport 14 Tecumseh 7
    2005- Airport 34 Tecumseh 27

Doesn't sound much like getting "whooped" to me. OK, the Jets obviously won those three games, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

And even though Tecumseh may not be a powerhouse, I was not impressed by Bedford's defense last week either.

I'm sure that Mays will have another great day against Huron this week, but we won't know what he really has until weeks 3 and 4 when they play top tier Huron League teams.

And who is to say that Milan's Joe Dunn is not better than Mays? He went for 80 more yards last week and only played in the first half.

I guess what I'm saying is that don't tell a Jefferson guy to "keep it to himself" when you are doing the same for the Jets.

  10. okay brian mccoulough is not the best are you kidding… they were playing a horrible tecumseh team who dropped airport because they got whooped every year… Jodeci Mays is the best and he will show it… whoever the jefferson guy is that said that can keep it to himself next time

  11. Mays is the best back, quick speed on the football field and on the track. He ran a 4.51 and low 11s in the 100m. Thats pretty solid,

Note: He wasn't the fastest on the Airport Team though. Derrek Williams ran a 4.50.

  12. Bryan McCullough is the best back in the league regardless of the 40 time. He will leade the league in yards and TD's and will be an ALL-State candidate. If you haven't seen this kid play, he is worth the price of admission alone. Hands down, he will be Region Player Of The Year!!!

  13. Milan will destroy Flat Rock
Airport will beat Huron, but not as badly as you might think.
    Jefferson will manhandle Grosse Ile
SMCC has too much talent for Riverview.

  14. Milan over Flatrock *
    Airport over Huron *
    Jefferson over Grosse Ile
    SMCC over Riverview *

*= big wins, im talkin over 3 scores.

  15. Football 40's should be timed IN PADS, but virtually none are. I think that makes the BIGGEST difference, a 4.5 on the track is probably closer to a 4.6 on the field, in my opinion.

    j.w.

  16. Teen ran a 4.55 electric timed 40 at a combine in Chicago and I doubt that a kid from Jefferson ran a 4.4 flat unless one of his coaches was timing it.

  17. Jodeci Mays best back in the league?? Well if your gonna make that opinion by the 40 time jefferson has 2 kids that run 4.5 and 1 runs a 4.4 flat!

  18. What about Leo Pittman of Milan as the fastest 40 ? He beat everyone in the 100 in dual meets last spring, Teen, Mays, etc… he was injured at the league track meet.

  19. Teen likely due to track record. But 100 vs 40 is a different story. There may be others that aren't listed who could be the 40 champ.

Note: Ruhmor has it that Teen wasn't the fastest guy on GI in the 40!

  20. Jodeci Mays in my opinion is the best back in the league… He ran a 4.5 40… runs hard and is on a good team… he gets my vote
