The Red Devils held a 14-7 lead at half time in this Thursday night affair on the island. Jefferson was able to score 24 points in the 2nd half and squeaked out a 31-29 win over the upset minded Islanders. Bryan McCullough and Dillon Sharkus both scored 2 TD’s for the Bears

  1. Unquestionably the worst…I think that might be unquestionably the worst post on this blog. GI will continue to over achieve

  2. Unfortunate to have leadership like that. Actually, he participated in one of the cheapest shots I've seen last year too that knocked a GI player out of the game. Looking for a knockout spear on sweeps and needs to keep his hands/fists to himself in the scrum….I stand by what I said, the rest of the HL should beware of and condemn that kind of play.

Maybe your film doesn't follow the dirt??

  3. Who ever said mike oley is a dirty player im just a bit confused! I did see the film and dont quite get what your talking about mike oley is one of our best athletes and leads the bears!

  4. All those on Jefferson's bandwagon, please, for the love of god jump off. I mean you can say GI is improved all you want, they still are unquestionably the worst team in the Huron League.

  5. It was a closer game than what was said. Grosse Ile lead the entire game until the last 25 seconds of the game. GI will be ready to play next week against Riverview. GIs back

  6. Jefferson made some mistakes but GI is a much better team than many think. This was a great and exciting high school game with Jefferson winning on a short FG with about 30 seconds left. GI up 29-14, Kick return by Dylan Sharkus TD and 2pt coversion made it 29-22. The Bears scored again but missed PAT 29-28. Jefferson forced a short punt but GI stopped them inside the 10 on downs. Bears force short punt agian, GI sacks QB for big loss but on 3rd down Oely hits Boring for a first down to keep drive alive. GI holds and Jefferson kicks short FG 31-29 GI drives has a force "big hit" drop of a long pass on about the ten and are forced to try a long 49 yd. FG snap bobbled and that is the game.

  7. GI recap: (31 – 29 GI loss)
The Good: 1st half GI was DOMINANT on Offense and Defense. Again the defense showed that they are to the key to GI's season and are a force to be rekoned with. The Offense spread the ball around again and was effective both running and passing. It's looking more and more like the Teen/Church show… no more keying on Teen to shut down GI which = trouble for opponents. Oooopps…did I forget mention passing??… I'll save that for another week. BTW, what an exciting and entertaining game!

The Bad: 2nd half the defense folded and the offense sputtered. It was clear that GI was gassed on both sides of the ball but they still conterpunched and lost a 15 round split decision. Field position was a killer and special teams didn't deliver (KO return for TD, shanked punts, etc)

Going Forward: The GI team was devasted for sure…mentally the right frame of mind as they took no solice from giving a fight to MJ when Obama himself counted them out before the game even started. They will learn to use their bench better (they haven't had that luxury for 3 years) to stay fresh in the 2nd half and build experience down the stretch. It's a long season with alot of opportunity to learn how to win those types of games vs trying not to lose. The winds of change are blowing in off lake Erie….better strap it up tight boys!

NOTE: All other teams please prepare for #11 from MJ. It's sad that you have to protect yourself from Cheap shots and Dirty play. It must not part of this league… THIS IS NOT sour grapes or personal in any way, but rather a call to remove that garbage from the HL. Just check the film….. nuff said.
