League Forecast 8th Place

Well, you have to start somewhere and work your way up from there. So I will start with 8th place.

Grosse Ile opens the season with a 20 game losing streak. The good news is they open with Detroit Western who matches their 20 loss streak. Something has to give and it will be in the Red Devils favor. GI returns a load of veteran players including 1st Team All Huron League RB Dex Teen. Teen is extremely fast and will be tough to catch once he gets into the open field. The Islanders have some solid returnees on the offensive line in John Korody and Steve Berlinski. A sophomore QB could have some growing pains early in the season.

Stopping people may be another story for GI. They gave up nearly 42 points a game last year. They will have to improve on that if they plan on winning a few games. While the Devils will open with a victory they may not see another the rest of the season. I think it will be hard for them to win a game in the league this year. Huron and Flat Rock walloped them last year and appear to be a little better this year. Cross river rival Riverview appears headed to greener pastures so that will be a tougher game than the recent past. I see a win over Ida late in the season and the Red Devils finish 0-7 in the league and 2-7 overall.

  1. I have to agree with an 8th place finish. We need defense and without that we will not win. It is that simple.

It all starts from the top on down… discipline across the board
is were it needs to start. Without that we may be stuck at 0-8.

  2. I like that you think TEEN is all we have….Puuuurrrfect set-up for the underdog to surprise offensively all season. True the D is unproven and that WILL be the difference between 1-8 or shocked HL opponents.
    Strap it up tight boys.

  3. Haha what do you mean GI's defense knows what it takes? They gave up almost 42 points a GAME last year. GI will finish in 8th place in the league, all you have is Dex Teen, noone else ive never heard of the 2recievers you mentioned and I dont really care, GI 1-8 end of story.

All you players stay off noone cares what you have to say.

  4. first off kids stop hyping your team, the two kids you mentioned and said dont forget them? i will forget them because ive never even heard of them. GI i agree has some talent but hasnt proved a thing. Id put them at 8th place too until we see at least their first couple of games. Good luck to all huron league teams this year, and keep this blog going, its great to finally get to read about the huron league!

  5. gi is about to dominate, teen can flat out fly and in the new option they are running i dont know if there is a team in the league that can stop them. their defense is much improved and much older this year they know what it takes and watch out for gi to make a big splash this year. oh and dont forget about nusbaum and cameron at reciever cameron wont drop a pass that he touches while nusbaum is an athletic reciever who can go up and get it. watch out folks

  6. I think GI has some experience, and talent to finish better then 8th place, but the league is going to be tough…I don't understand why people are so high on Jefferson? so they beat SMCC every year….they win 4 games..they're not going to be as big..yes they have mc cullough, but he's bigger then the people blocking in front of him..Jefferson is going to be SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWW

  7. GI scrimmage was Mason only. We've earned the underdog title in the Huron League, clearly an advantage for the Red Devils this year with a re-tooled team on both sides of the ball. Stap it up tight boys.

  8. Just curious because all i hear about is how well GI did against mason, were there not other teams at the 4-way or is that the only one that GI did good against?

  9. The Buc's are in for a surprise this year, Grosse Ile had a great scrimmage vs. mason. Look for RB Dex Teen to tear apart the Buc's D. Also, The Much inproved QB Robert White as a sophmore. The devils also have alot skill at Receving and Slot . The Red Devils will be ready.

  10. yeah don't crown riverview just yet….the league is going tougher then nails this year…the bucs are starting a soph at qb, and don't really return any studs..they'll be coached well, but stergales isn't vince lombardi…it'll take a year or two..but they'll still beat huron, and have a battle with fr..

  11. Grrrrrr Convo5479 gets a little angry when someone talks bad about the big bad bucs. Even calls high school kids losers basically in his last post.

  12. The Riverview, GI game last year was a pillow fight. But now with Stergalas coming in you can bet that wont be the case at all this year. It shouldnt matter if GI is returning a bunch of kids all those starters and Dex Teen know is how to lose. This year they might end the 20 game skid against Detroit Western and that should be about it except if they pull out a squeaker against Flatrock which is highly undoubtful. Dont forget though, the Riverview/GI game is at Riverview and is the Homecoming for Stergalas and you can bet that game wont be taken lightly by anyone in Riverview. If i do remember correctly SMCC was only leading Riverview 14-0 at half time last year and had 2 punts returned for touchdowns to win 28-8. But yet SMCC made it to the semifinal and didnt put up "BIG" points against a Riverview team that didnt have much of a defense at all giving up 321 points? When the rest of the teams in the league with the exception of Flatrock and GI put up over 40+ points against Riverview? So you cant say Riverview wasnt in any games last year except for GI and Flatrock, they made a game against CC, and i bet if they hadnt been plagued by injury the last week of the season they could've given Trenton a run for their money too.

Just some of my thoughts. We'll just have to wait and see how all of this plays out in Week 3.

  13. Sorry, don't follow Riverview all that closely except when they play GI. GI is returning a lot of their team from last year. I guess Riverview must be, too. Or did they get a bunch of transfers in from somewhere b/c the GI/Riverview game last year was GI's best shot at a win. And the Flat ROck game was the only other one Riverview was even in last season. I know a lot can change from one season to the next but we can't think a much improved 0-9 team can compete with a 1-8 team who they played with last year? I guess you need to share with me what I don't know about Riverview.

  14. MC Joe you cannot seriously think that GI will beat Riverview? Riverview will be able to hang with any team in the league this year and could possibly upset any of the top teams, Riverview will get atleast 5 wins this season maybe even 6 if they pull out a sqeaker against Jefferson or possibly Milan. Should be an interesting year all over the league, we'll all just have to wait and see.

  15. Having seen GI scrimmage, I'll say I was impressed with how they looked this year. Some tremendous improvement over last year. They'll for sure win the opener, I see them making a game out of the Riverview, Flat Rock, and Huron games. I'll give them a win over Riverview then depending on how they compete in the other early games, maybe coming into Flat Rock and Huron w/ the confidence to pull out wins there. Not sure about the Ida game but it'll be closer than the blowout last year.

  16. GI I think will be more competitve than people think, they can finish 2-7. Teen looks good but he needs the blocking to get yards in tough games. They should beat Western and maybe give Ida or Flat Rock a game.
