This prediction thing is a little tougher than I thought it was going to be. There are just so many different variables involved. Stergalas, the new coach at Riverview changes the whole landscape of the league. In general, I think most teams in the league will be improved from a year ago with the exception of a couple of teams.
Joe Pruchnicki has turned things around at Flat Rock since his arrival 3 seasons ago. Pruchnicki does an excellent job with what he has and one could only wonder what he could do at a large football school. The Rams have gone a respectable 9-9 the last two seasons. This years team appears to be a little better on paper but finishing where they did last year might not happen. Depth continues to plague the Rams program and that could hurt them late in the season.
The Rams have better size than a season ago and return much of their line. Joe Conner is probably the best Rams RB since Casey Steffen who went on and played at Northwood University. Throw in a 3 year starter at QB in Dan Chickeral and the Rams could score more than the recent past.
Defensively is where the Rams will struggle. Since Pruchnicki arrived the Rams have focused on stopping people. Last year they lacked depth at LB and this year will be no different. The Rams should find themselves in quite a few games. I’m just not sure if they can find a way to win as many as they like.
Flat Rock needs to win that first game of the season against Ida to get off to a good start. If that happens their fortunes may change from what I foresee. Look for Flat Rock to go 2-5 in the Huron League and finish 3-6 overall.
You heard it here first flat rock will shock the Huron league by going 9 and 0 or 8 and 1 there are only two good teams in there league and that is Smcc and flat rock and cc lost people so there for flat rock has the edge on cc. This year and Huron will not be good they will go the best 3 and 6 and blow it it against flat rock the last three years and they don't have a good back field Tyler Weclowski is good and sterling Wilson #2 is overrated….
I bet if Coach Pernicki, and his staff had your team you would have made the playoffs!
All I can say is this, as an alum who played on arguably one of the most talented FR teams that underachieved, I have to say Coach P has done a great job with these kids and the program. FR, as I'm sure most every school, has been plagued with outspoken parents, who all feel their kid should be the star player, parent coaches, who push their son's interest before the team, and many other issues. In a day in which kids are more worried about sleeping in, running around with friends, and playing video games, Coach P and his staff have done a great job of getting these kids in the weight room throughout the year.
Give this team some credit because if they can stay healthy (BIG IF…) they have the heart and drive to do great things.
From what I hear from my "inside sources" I'd say anything less than 5-4 for the Rams would be an underachievment.
you must be smoking..they have 30+ on varsity this year..some added depth indeed..rumor has it only 5 offensive players start on D..we'll see though, 7-2 is probably not gonna happen, but depending on how they play against Huron,Milan, and Jefferson 5/6 wins could happen…
What are you smoking? You have to be high on something to think that FLATROCK will go 7-2. They dont have the depth so all of their starters and their "Solid Line" will be worn out by the time the 2nd half comes around, you make me LAUGH!!!!!
flat rock 7-2 call it here with a couple of good running backs a good full back and a vet QB their offense will be tough to stop, considering they are returning a sold line, and if their defense can step up, 7-2
Pruchnicki is old school. That would never happen.
FR has a good team this year I played for them two years ago and trust me these boys have heart and have a real good shot at makeing playoffs at the least going 5-4 u may think thats a crazy statement but coach will bring out the best in everyone he always had a nack for it and look for flat rock to take down one of the big four it will either be airport or jefferson going down when they meet this season.
like they always say its always a treat when the players meet..
HuronLeagueFootball, i heard that Flatrock is running the spread option and they moved Joe Connor to Quaterback and Dan Chickeral to wideout? and now they pass the ball 3 outta 4 downs. Im not really sure if this is true but this is what a good friend said on FR football team. Can you get more info?
Flat Rock will play extremely hard in all of their games. They will not beat the big 4, but they are better than 7th in the league.
Nice Blog, pretty cool
No. Ida beats them all.
I agree so far with your pick for 7th and 8th. However, I think Milan will continue their 9 game-winning streak against the Rams this season. Also with the new coaching staff at Riverview, I would pick the Bucs over the Rams for a surprise run this year in the league.
Do games always go as planned? Ever hear of matchups? Is it possible that Ida beats FR, FR beats GI and GI beats Ida?
How can you have possibly losing to Ida if you have GI beating Ida when a playoff appearance is likely on the line?
Obviously, I don't have a crystal ball but I see them losing to a good Ida team early and beating Erie Mason the last game of the season. I see two wins in the league. I think GI will be one and the other could come from Riverview, Huron or Milan.
The end of my post said, "Flat Rock needs to win that first game of the season against Ida to get off to a good start. I really feel that way, that would be a big win and possibly a season changer.
Do you have them losing to Erie Mason or Ida? I think if FR can beat Ida, they could have a good shot at 5-4. With wins agianst Grosse Ile, Riverview, and Huron in the league. you cant count on Huron beating them when they have choked being the better team the last three years. The offensive line will be the strength of the team. If they can get a few defenders to step up, 5-4 could be very realistic.
Not so fast my friend. I can see the Rock being either 4-2 or 5-1 heading into week seven. I think FR could shock Milan early. They've played them tough over the past three or four years. Believe it will be a shootout. Depth always becomes the issue. SMCC is the class of the league. Up next would be Jeff and Airport back to back. Both are home games I believe. FR lost a close battle to Jeff and hung with Airport for a half last season. Week nine goes to the Rams as well. Flat Rock finishes 5-4 or 6-3. If this team makes the playoffs it wouldn't surprise me. You heard it here!
Agreed with your 8th, and the 7th makes sense. Flat Rock will be a force in the next 3 or 4 years, providing Pruchnicki stays, and can deal with the elements involved in rebuilding.
