Detroit Consortium @ SMCC

Consortium (7-3)  defeated Madison Heights Madison 8-3 in the first week of the playoffs while SMCC (8-2) beat Warren Collegiate 42-14. These two teams have never met in football.

Consortium finished in second place in the Michigan Metro Athletic Conference behind undefeated River Rouge. The Cougars have a huge offensive line that averages nearly 300 lbs but have losses to two non-playoff teams.

Consortium would most likely win this game if it was played on the hardwood of a gymnasium, however it is football played in the dark confines of Navarre Field in Monroe. Pick: SMCC 38 Consortium 18

  1. Of course there might be 5 better teams from league ahead of Consortium. But they have twice as many kids in the school-Duh??? Probably a lot of D1 schools that deserve to be in playoffs ahead of a lot of D2 or D3 schools. They're in different divisions for a reason.

  2. Consortium had a coaching change the day before their 4-way scrimmage and have seemingly grown alot since then. Their coach is actually a former D coordinator at Crockett, so I think it's unfair to say that they're not well coached.

I understand that most city teams are poorly coached though, so I guess I see where you're coming from. If SMCC loses, I wouldn't mind seeing it happen this round.

  3. Milan would lose to 6 of those teams? Maybe, maybe not, but it's funny you should bring Milan into this thread.

I say go CC tonight–it just makes Milan's win this year look that much better. If CC loses, well then maybe there's something to the talk up in this neck of the woods that Milan didn't beat anyone in it's conference this year.

    Funny how that works…

  4. No Nemesis, just messing around. You do throw out the predictions, somebodies got to mess with ya.

Go back to BN though, bloody nutter is disgusting.

I also think SMCC will be in for a battle. CC is very dependent on their line for their ground game and it sounds like DC has a good size line. Game will be close.

    SMCC without kicker I hear.
    SMCC 24 DC 20

  5. SMCC is about the 8th or so best team in D6 this year. I give the edge to Ithaca, Consty, Millington, Scraft, Grass Lake, Hemlock, Nauganee and Shelby.

By the way 6 of those teams would have beaten Milan IMO.

  6. CC will go all the way to the finals. No competition at this level once again. See you at Ford field, where they'll finally see some competition.

    DIVISION 6

R4-D2: Detroit Consortium (7-3) at Monroe St Mary Catholic Central (8-2)

    Kickoff: Friday, 7 p.m.

The Lowdown: Detroit Consortium got its first playoff win ever last week with an 8-3 win over Madison Heights Madison. Monroe St. Mary has had a high-scoring offense all season.

Key Matchup: The Consortium defense vs. St.Mary offense. Consortium reduced Madison Heights Madison’s productive offense to just three points.

Prediction: Consortium wins another low scoring match. Consortium 14, Monroe St. Mary 7.

  8. Well BN…you know that I am a Jack fan. I think Consortium is pretty solid but I also believe SMCC is pretty darn good.

I wouldn't say Consortium is unorganized and poorly coached but I would say that there are challenges to putting a good team on the field every week over there and other places in the city.

  9. Consortium has 416 students and most likely a few division 1 players. They deserve to be in the playoffs and playing division 6.

I would love to spend some timing writing about the challenges of an urban high schooler from Detroit. I am fortunate enough to work at a high school whose entire population hails from the city. People have no idea what these kids go through on a daily basis to just be able to go to school and play football. It would absolutely blow your mind.

With that said, it has no bearing on the outcome of this game. SMCC wins big.

  10. this will the third team in a roll with big lineman and is fast . Ypsi warren coll and now detroit consortium .Smcc just play your game GO FALCONS

  11. it's a shame some of these teams get in, like consortium. There are 5 better teams in the HL that could be playing instead of them

  12. Now that's the way the Huron League should stick together. I will have to predict-though fans are saying Con is Big, CC is tough for their size and I'll bet CC's coach is much more playoff experienced.–BIG ADVANTAGE!!!

  13. Consortium's problem is that they don't play thru the whistle, they never give a full effort every play either. CC just needs to be very physical up front, and the big lineman will turn to pillows. Consortium is more athletic than CC, but CC has better football players overall. CC – 35 Consortium – 22

  14. ya DC is a larger private school and we all know they recruit.

They must have done well vs the single wing attack by Rouge only give up 18?

I guess we will see and I hope you are right.

  15. Only lost to DC by 3 TD's? Ecorse had their worst team in 4 years. Consortium didn't get past the 50 offensively on Rouge.

SMCC is a bad match up for Consortium. Mark my words, it may get ugly.

  16. Wow Chris I wish I were as confident as you.

This game is played on NOV 2. The same day 5 years ago cc played Blissfield and lost on a hail mary. I bet you want to change your prediction now dont you? ha

I think the Falcons are in for a real battle… yes Riverview beat Constortium but CC also gave up 42 points the view.

Consortium has beaten Ecorse and only lost to Divine child by 21 and River Rouge by 18. Rouge is a top 10 team in D5.

I just dont like it. I feel an upset.
