Riverview @ Allen Park Preview

Riverview finished tied for 2nd in the Huron League after winning the title in 2017 while advancing to the Division 3 Semi-Finals. The Pirates rolled Redford Union in week 9 by a score of 47-7. Allen Park finished the regular season with a 7-2 mark while finishing 3rd in the Downriver League. The Jaguars have qualified for the playoffs 26 times in school history and have long been the “gold standard” in the Downriver area for high school football.

Allen Park: 7-2 (7-2 Downriver League)

Record vs. Playoff Teams: 2-2

Allen Park’s starting QB is junior Mateo
Balderas.  He is 31/56 passing on the year for 750 yards and 9
touchdowns with only 2 interceptions. The Jaguars leading receiver is senior
Jakob Marsee, who has 19 receptions for 566 yards and 7 TDs on the
season. Marsee is also a major ballcarrier for the Jaguars with 56
carries for 391 yards and 8 TDs.  Junior Nico Tiberia has carried the
ball 86 times for 531 yards and 11 TDs. Key players on the offensive include Kyle Compean, Zach Nicoletti, and Lance Mitchell. Junior Blake Gilliam leads the
Jaguars’ defense in total tackles with 44, including 2.5 sacks and numerous QB
hits and hurries from his defensive line position.  He is closely followed
by previously mentioned Marsee (39) and Tiberia (38) in tackles on the season. The stout Jaguar defense is led by a strong defensive line that includes Cameron Monticello, Max Alvarez.

Riverview: 7-2 ( 5-2, Huron League)

Record vs. Playoff Teams: 1-2

Riverview is led on offense by signal caller Dominic Wood. The senior has led the Pirates to 18 wins over the last 2 seasons. Riverview has a stable of backs who carry the ball led by; Kyle Naif (675 yards), Steven Rice (630 yards), Joe Johnson (452 yards) and Ethan Lockhart (398 yards). On defense, the Bucs are only giving up 16 ppg are led by Naif in tackles along with Jimari Moultrie, Lockhart and Mark Walker.

This should be an excellent match up between the Riverview running game and the Allen Park run  defense. This is a game that could go either way and could come down to who protects the ball best.

Gary’s Pick: Allen Park 27 Riverview 20
Frank’s Pick: Riverview 24 Allen Park 21

  1. View was inside the 5 twice in the first half and didn't score in that game. Sounds like sour grapes. I will say that I think they would of won if they wouldn't have lost their best player early in the playoffs.

  2. I have to say I don’t believe I’ve seen a worse officiated game other than Harrison last year.
Can anyone tell me have they ever seen a ref tilt a ball forward on a chain measurement? Nope
Nice face mask call on 3-10 oh wait block in the back nope
24-20 final with help cause they sue and the heck couldn’t stop the train on offense we had ball 5 times scored 3 and fumbled on the one that would have been another td
Craziness to let someone else decide an outcome of game other than the kids

  3. Last year's Riverview team had some beast of RB's and some tough linemen that just physically beat up on people for four quarters. All the hype last year about Carlson and the View just came in and destroyed them. That being said, this years team just doesn't seem to have the same level of talent. I hope that I'm wrong, but just being honest.
    Go Bucs.

  4. I agree with Gary at 139. Last year there weren't to many local teams Riverview couldn't have beat. This year…not so much. Love my Bucs, but I predict they will be out after tonight.

  5. I am not a Trenton fan. Played is the downriver league for Wyandotte.

    Just making a prediction!!

  6. Honest question….. When was the last time a downriver team made it to the semi's? I know WR had a few good teams that couldn't get past King, but don't remember a super good team coming from the DR league in a really long time.

  7. Yes Riverview won last year vs driver league. But I’m almost positive that Driver league schools have a winning record vs the Huron. Last year one of the only years I remember Huron beating driver. Have seen river play Allen park several time and think they have lost every time.

  8. Yes Riverview has had some trouble with Allen Park, but I dont see how a Trenton fan could brag about that. That's weak

  9. The Trojan guy must be a Trenton fan. I thought maybe Monroe but if that was the case I don’t see why he’d hype up the Downriver league. We got beat by them pretty bad last year too. Don’t have to be salty an entire year about it lol

  10. Riverview fans were talking about “the curse” the other day…..if there thinking like that then there already toast!! LOL!! The only curse I’m aware of is that of their Super!!

  11. Riverview fans were talking about “the curse” the other day…..if there thinking like that then there already toast!! LOL!! The only curse I’m aware of is that of their Super!!

  12. Huron league teams tend do do better in the playoffs.

Nobodys heard of the Downriver league outside of Downriver. It's pretty weak.

  13. Downriver league is soft, the view made slight work of both teams in districts last year. They embarrassed Trenton so I don’t understand the irrogance…

  14. These 2 do have a storied rivalry and this is why the new downriver league has so many detractors with there not being an opportunity for non league openers and closers
Imagine the possibilities -Riverview vs AP or Trenton

Grosse Ille vs Trenton or Woo

Carlson vs Airport Or SMCC or their one time long time rival Flat Rock !!!!!

  15. I think this game could swing towards Allen Park at the end simply because of the history between these teams. Always play in big games and Riverview comes up short. It’s always cool seeing them play though. Sort of a mini rivalry. Best of luck to both teams.
