SMCC @ Airport

SMCC (4-0) is coming off of a 28-0 victory over Grosse Ile while Airport (3-1) beat Flat Rock  56-21. The Falcons won last seasons game 27-7 and have won eight of the last ten games in the series. In fact, SMCC has won forty-one of the fiftey-one games play between these two teams since 1954.

Airport put up a lot of points against Flat Rock last week and most came on the ground. Dylan Meiring and Bryce Cole continue to provide the offensive output for the Jets. Defensively, Airport has the task of slowing down the Falcons high powered offense.

SMCC keeps showing league opponents week in and week out that they appear to be the class of the league. They lead the league in both points scored and points against. They also have the best coach in the Huron League.

Airport has stepped up this season and surprised many a little bit, but things get tougher from here on out for the Jets. Airport will have to find a way to force some Falcon turnovers and find a way to get into the endzone at least three times. I just don’t see that happening. Prediction: SMCC 35 Airport 7

  1. If I was Airport, I would try and do what GI did. They held them to 28. I have watched AP on film and watched SMCC in person. SMCC will run the ball at will. This is coming from a Milan dad who thinks SMCC is playing the best football hands down. I think they run the table. AP, and Milan are going to be fighting for a playoff birth.

  2. Over the last 20 years this rivalry has been pretty good. Smcc leads that 12 wins to 8 for Airport. That's a pretty good rivalry to me. Should be a good game. Airport looking good this year. I think it will be 12 to 9 after this season.

    GO JETS!

  3. I love the fire up posts Airport is throwing up there for their guys… Pretty sure no one in the room at SMCC is preparing for a blowout… even when Airport is in a down season it's always a battle… And Airport is in no way fielding a down year team…. Going to be a battle in the trenches, have a feeling the first drives of the second half will determine the outcome…

  4. Airport defence has been solid this year but i think they have struggled against the pass this year would love to see airport win this one. I see it being closer then alot of people think…as for smcc not playing as a team and being a "me" school you sound crazy beause year in and year out smcc is known for team discipline and playing as a team and better yet a machine. ..airport fan no predictions i just hope airport come out on top

  5. Complete blow out, stops being fun to watch after first quarter.

CC 42 to 56 (depending when they put 2/3 strings in)
    Airport 6

  6. This will be a close game. They both run similar offenses, so defenses will know what they are looking for.

Riverview was bigger and faster than Airport and served them their first loss.

SMCC is not bigger and faster than Airport, so this will be a great matchup.

Airport will have some more fire in them, since they haven't beaten CC lately.

  7. EM, homer pick, or do you think airport is actually going to win. I will be VERY VERY surprised if airport gets to 21. I will be slightly surprised if they score at all. 14 is the most I see airport putting up. I've watched 3 of their games on film. If Meiring diesnt get off they are in trouble because the QB is limited in my opinion.

  8. Thanks for the response. I agree, although GI was very good before the injuries and AP just didn't know how to use what they had.

  9. When has Hoskins had the best talent in the league? Last year started 4 first year o lineman all under 200 pds. Returned 3 starters on D….. Come on dude. They did a great job the last two years. Riverview, GI, SMCC, Huron, Airport all had equal or better talent. Am I wrong Chris?

  10. Some key players to watch for Airport are RB's Dylan Meiring, Robbie McGrath, and Keagan Brinson on offense and the pair of #20 Preston Baldock and #42 AJ Goretski on defense.

Ive been to 3 of there four games and these seem to be the leaders of both sides of the ball

  11. I see airport taking the field with some fire in there eyes these two teams have always been a great match up.They both play the best game of the year against each other. It is going to be a game of who wants it more and Smcc has not been down a game so if airport comes out and goes up by a touchdown or two the Felcons will have a melt down allowing airport to win

  12. Airport is gonna have to play a great game to have a chance no doubt. Airport's front seven has been solid for the most part and will have to be even more so vs CC's powerful run game. If Airport is able to run the ball they will have a chance, if not it could be another CC blowout. Airport 21 CC 20. EM

  13. CC is going to have a tough time moving around those big bodies on Airport's D-Line. I just don't see it happening this week. Airport is going to play their best game of the season on Friday night.

CC is good and has a lot of talent this year, but not the kind of heart that Airport has. CC players don't play for each other, they play for themselves. Selfish football at CC.

Airport is getting back to the playoffs this year. This is a true team that has heart and toughness. They will win this game on the line, where we all know the game really is won.

What in the world makes you think you know whether the kids at SMCC have heart or not? Individuals???? SMCC is the most not ME team I have ever seen. They work as a machine, not individuals. Each back shares the load. Each back is required to block for each other. The defense swarms to the ball. There are no individuals on the SMCC team, making that comment gives the impression that you in fact sir have no idea what you are talking about nor should you make such accusations on the Huron League blog. Jamis Winston is the ME playing example who is selfish. SMCC is a working machine who works together for success. Please just sit back and watch this smack down on friday, because you obviously have never watched a SMCC football game. Either that or you are just uneducated on how football works. I respect Airport, bust SMCC is a great TEAM.

  14. If Airport can limit keep the special teams mistakes to a minimum and the O-Line continues their dominance, Meiering and Brinson should continue to run all night. Will be a great match-up. Jet Defense could be the X-Factor but, they will be tested by great talent with Windham and Vulich. Think this might be a close game 3-6 Points Differential. Huron League Fan

  15. The comment about Giarmo being the best coach is my unbiased opinion. I used facts to back up my argument.

A biased opinion would be if I was a Michigan graduate and insisted that Brady Hoke was the best coach in the country.

  16. I look at this as similar to a pregame show in any sportscast we see. The broadcasters run the broadcast but as soon as they favor a team, people go nuts and complain. This blog is no different, we tune in, get the scoop on the teams, whos hurt, stats, whatever, and leave the extreme opinions to the people like me, bn, kc and whoever else chimes in. Its a great blog and fun to offer opinions, but isn't the blog manager supposed to be somewhat non bias. just my thoughts. Its a great blog either way, but if comments come out like best coach in the league stuff, then definitely expect some complaining. We are all on here to root for our own team, reguardless of stats, records and other peoples opinions.

  17. People do realize that Chris gives his opinion all the time right?

I'm pretty sure he is the only one who ever leaves a first and last name with his post.

I happen to think Hoskins (2 league titles, 23-13 record and a winning record head to head with Giarmo.) is just as good as Giarmo, but at least Chris backs up his statement with a good argument using Giarmo's career as his main point.

  18. CC is going to have a tough time moving around those big bodies on Airport's D-Line. I just don't see it happening this week. Airport is going to play their best game of the season on Friday night.

  19. I would expect nothing less gentlemen. Whether Giarmo is best coach or not, you don't need to blatantly state it in your game comments. Obviously if we all liked SMCC and just always agreed this blog would be no fun.

Many people seem to be the SMCC police on hear.
Mann! and the repeating of what everybody says is just so annoying.

  20. Biased opinion? You do know I graudated from Flat Rock and live in the Huron district right? I am also Lutheran, which pretty much means Catholicism isn't my thing.

Who is better? Giarmo is in his 18th season at SMCC. His record is 146-61. Three league championships Been to the playoffs 12 times, 7 times to the semis and 3 times to the Finals.

There was a short time ago when this was a great coaches league, but gone are the days of Redmond, Cisco, Robb, and Stergalas.

There are some good young coaches in the league, but Giarmo is the best in my opinion.

  21. Wow, nothing like a very biased opinion by the blog guy. Sounds like some instigating to me. Best coach in the league.?? As far as X's and O's I don't think so, as far as talent YES. Good talent makes a good coach. Having so-so talent and winning the league, that's doing something. I'm sure I will hear all about their size in a few minutes.

Airport is pretty good this year and will give them their best game of the season so far. SMCC is due for a meltdown like Huron had a few weeks back. Every team has its day.
