Due to a 6 game schedule, we understand that not all schedules are equal this year, however collectively, this is how FNV sees the Huron League shaping up.
- Riverview Pirates – Riverview returns plenty of firepower and has an excellent shot at the Huron League Title. The Pirates should be able to withstand the graduation losses with the likes of Moultrie, Lopez, Shank and Lockhart returning. This could be a relentless group on both sides. The View will play with a little edge this year, that edge might take them to the top of the standings.
2. New Boston Huron Chiefs – Let’s be honest, Huron doesn’t always find itself at the top the HL standings but this team is just different. Quite the make up of offensive weapons. Some would say maybe the best the Huron League has seen in quite some time. With Myers at QB and outstanding WR talent in Smith, Molnar and Williams. However I think the true catalyst will be the O-line of Short, Webb, Buettner and Galinas. Points will be a plenty in New Boston.
3. Milan Big Reds – Ok, how will Milan replace the likes of a Tristen Hines?.. You do that with players like McBride, McElvany, Isaacs, Cartwright and newcomer, Walline. Coach Hoskins lists his team’s strengths as, intelligence, and overall team speed. Those two things will go a long way towards a potential league top spot.
4. Monroe St. Mary CC Falcons – The Falcons lost well, just about everyone from last year’s State Championship team. Gone are all the familiar names, but the cupboard is not bare. Coach Kipf will rely on the few returning starters he has in Patterson, Jondro and Bergmoser along with top new comers in Taylor, Birkenhier and Leal. Look for the coaching staff to get to know the team in the first few weeks, as it gains steam heading into the playoffs.
Thoughts From Chris: I think the Huron League is wide open for anyone to win this season. There is much parity this year and I think nearly any team in the league can win on “Any Given Friday”.
Thoughts from Frank: Will this be the season where we can put to bed the “it’s a down year in the Huron League” bit? Given the amount of depth in the conference, I’ll even go as far to say no one will go unbeaten in the regular season.
Any JV games tonight?
