Outlook: This district is wide open. Robichaud is the #1 seed and has two victories over playoff teams. Chelsea plays the toughest schedule, but Grosse Ile should give them problems.

Manchester @ Clinton
Outlook: SMCC and Clinton appear to be the class of the district. SMCC received a favorable 1st round opponent., while Clinton must beat Manchester who they beat 41-19 in week 1.
Riverview is D4 thats not class A.

Obviously you do not know me at all. I have 2 small children 1 of which is terrified of the thought of trick-or-treating. If she had the choice she would go to a football game on friday night as an excuse not to have to go. Unfortunately as an adult we all must make choices in life that are sometimes hard. Do I go to the football game or do I take the little ones to get free candy? I guess I did not realize that Halloween was one of the BIG holidays. Oh well, I work until 7 anyway.
When you play away from your area in HS football.. calls are not going to go your way. Its something you have to play through.
I turned the robot off numerous times. I suggest just putting the numbers in. It isn't that hard.

My Halloween dilemma is this: I have one son on the Varsity team, and I have another son who is 10 years old. We are not in the Huron District. I have taken each one of my boys trick or treating every year. The oldest hasn't done it for the last few years, but it is still a big deal to my youngest. It's just something that we do together as father and sons. I would really like to see the whole game, but both of my boys' happiness is very important to me. It is just unfortunate for the younger ones, that we have to rush through Halloween this year. Oh well, there's always next year.
What does 2 tds being called back have to do with anything? Huron walked away with the W that night. That game is irrelevant. LOL. Mcnastys after the game anyone?

You can also get fraction of points for teams you lose to.
If the team you beat has 4 wins then you get 4 bonus points on top of the points you get just for beating a Class A school lets say.
There is a strength of schedule format. You get bonus points for every game the team you beat won. Plus you get more points for beating bigger schools. It isn't perfect, but it works very well.
Prediction Huron will lose to the under dog from Riverview..the first one wasn't as close as the score showed ..Riverview had 2 tds called back in the second half..

3:58 pm – that's a good idea. I know in our family we are prepared to go to the business trick or treat in Ypsilanti on Thursday night rather than miss Huron's game. That sucks for the younger one, but maybe they can wear their costume to the game too, just for fun. 🙂

Point has been made. System is rough, but it is what it is.
Basically, some of these teams with a high amount of playoff points are not that good. Point calculating is misleading. Need a strength of schedule format.
The have records since 1950, I'm sure they have the technology and manpower to create this format.

Here is the fix for your trick or treat/game dilemma. St. John's Lutheran in Waltz starts their trunk or treat at 6:00 pm. Take your kid there first then head over to Huron High at about 6:30 pm. Use the visitors entrance to avoid the long lines and be in your seat in plenty of time.
GI will not definitely beat Chelsea.. they MAY beat them but to say they will for sure is just not correct.
Chelsea is really good. I have my doubt GI can hang with them.

Spoken by someone who OBVIOUSLY has never had children! Or at least not more than one child. My kids dont trick or treat anymore but I love Halloween and passing out candy. So I had to make a choice. My passion for football is much greater and since I am still very active with the school, I will be supporting our boys on the field. GO CHIEFS!
playoffs are playoffs, someone will always disagree how they are ran. sounds like a few quirks in the current system, keep it as close to fair as possible.
Every team that has made it deserves a fair shot.
Believe it or not, some towns have rescheduled trick or treating so everyone in town could attend the game. Perhaps talk to your town officials.

According to the MHSAA website, the schools are broke down into classes as following:
187 Class A
182 Class B
168 Class C
47 Class D
Of course this makes no sense whatsoever and is highly inaccurate. It would be simpler and exact to just divide the number of teams by 8 and give points based on that. The way they are doing it is an archaic leftover from the days when there were only 4 divisions. I'm surprised that nobody has called them out on it. I could see how a team could potentially get screwed over when it comes to calculating points.
Why didn't these guys schedule the games for Saturday? Lots of families have more than one child, and it's Halloween. I'm going to have to miss half the game taking my other kid trick or treating!
In the grand scheme of things you have to win 5 games. It shouldn't matter who you play or when. Everyone has to win 5.
Smcc should beat Grass Lake easily, Clinton could be a challenge, but they do not play in that tough of a league, 9-0 could be deceiving. Not sure after that, recent injuries may prevent them from going any further than that.
Huron will beat The View and move on. They are rolling pretty good right now. Trenton and Romulus will be a good battle, but they should get past either of them.
GI will definitely beat Chelsea. Chelsea's pass defense is rough. GI will tear that up. Robichaud is another story. That will be a battle. GI is looking very good, I think they will go deep in the playoffs.

Just learning how it works. The league opponent thing is disappointing, but my main point was, I feel the playoff point system is misleading and a team could have a high playoff point total by losing to some terrible higher class teams. An AD could look to schedule these such programs to help their schools playoff points.
I guess there is no easy answer for that part, but I do appreciate the detail on the breakdown.
Thanks, I knew proximity played a part somewhere in that too. I did not know it was that major of a deciding factor. It seems a bit unfair for some and a major advantage for others. It also seems to me that the class schools are put in is a major factor in playoff points and that is misleading also. I guess a perfect system is hard to come by, college football has been working on it for years.
They should calculate a teams strength of schedule to determine playoff points. Going by Class is a start, but a 1-8 Class A team shouldn't get you more points than 8-1 Class B team. Save that for another day I guess.

There is talk about getting rid of the districts and ranking the 8 region teams. 1 plays 8, 4 plays 5.. etc.
Playoff matchups are kind of complex. I'll try to break it down for you as easy as I can 9:20 AM poster.
There are 256 total qualifiers, and 229 of them were automatic qualifiers (6 out of 9 or 5 out of 8 wins) this year. The 27 spots are for at-large teams. The MHSAA then splits them out. I don't know what the split is, but I heard it is something like 7-7-7-6 this year. The split applies to the class, so it will be 7 at-large Class A, 7 at-large Class B, etc. The highest playoff point average (POP) teams go in each class. Once these 256 teams are sorted by enrollment, the division breakpoints are drawn at each 32 teams.
Now we get to matchups. MHSAA does a thorough analysis to draw districts with the closest vicinity schools playing each other. There is no conscious effort to keep league opponents from playing each other, which I assume is your gripe.
In summation, "Class A" only means something for playoff points and making it in as an at-large team. That being said, Riverview will probably never get an at-large bid at 5-4 because they will be competing against other POP's from Class A teams that play other Class A teams (look at Grandville for an example).

Huron – scary, as they did not even play well first RView game.
I am sure Riverview has gotten better as well, but, Huron has gotten stronger after the SMCC game despite 3 season ending injuries to starters. If they play for 4 quarters and stay agressive, they should roll. If they play tentative, it is a game.

That is pretty much correct. They place team from each division into districts according to proximity. They then seed based on playoff points 1-4.
That is why sometimes you have to great teams like Calendonia and Muskegon Mona Shores facing off early. Both those teams have legit shots and winning D2
Geography is the only thing that is taken into consideration when making the bracket. the only thing. When they make the brackets they don't even know the teams. They just have dots on a map that represent a team, and they get matched up according to proximity. its that simple
Huron will run away with this playoff game just like they should have in the first meeting between these two at Riverview's homecoming. 21-7 at half Huron but it on cruise control. View earned its way into the playoffs but that's as far as they get. Go Chiefs

Well, we know at least one huron League Team will make it past the first round.
Wish I didn't have to work Friday so I could go to the Huron Riverview game. Should be a lot closer through out the game this time around, with the film being more accurate because it's from a few weeks ago, the teams will be able to prepare better. Depending on which offense Riverview chooses to run will determine the outcome of this game, if they choose to run the new offense in which they implemented late in the season they will lose, if they run the offense that scored them, I think, 30 or more PPG in the first 4 or 5 weeks of the season they will win. Should be a great one though! Injuries could also haunt Riverview.

Chelsea has been solid in the trenches with fantastic skilled position players in recent years, I should know I played them in the 2011 season. The bull dogs are going to over power the Red Devils in the trenches.
GI – 28
Chelsea – 35
This should be a breeze for CC considering they have the first seed, favorable match up, and home field.
SMCC – 42
Grass Lake – 7
Huron and Riverbiew is a great first match round match, tough to beat a good team twice but home field may give Huron the edge
I'm no rocket scientist, but I'm a little puzzled at how these playoff brackets are calculated.
It seems that the class you are put in is according to enrollment. But the playoff bracket you are put in has very little to do with enrollment, it seems to be based on playoff points, but these points are earned based on what class you opponents are in.
So somebody like Riverview gets stuck in Class A, Their usual opponents reap the benefits of all the points accumulated playing a "Class A team", but come playoff time, they are in Division 3 with Class B teams anyhow. Why put them Class A at all. ??
Based on stories like that, I don't think this playoff point thing is all that accurate.
Rematches are rarely easy for the team that won the first time.

Looks like Riverview won't get past the first round. Neither will GI. My money is on Huron and Matt. Would like to see GI do well but I don't think they can beat Chelsea.
SMCC should win easily.

Tough break in the first round match-up with Riverview and Huron, I think they both could make some noise in the playoffs. That being said, I think Huron has a better shot here.
Grosse Ile has a relatively decent District, neither Chelsea nor DH Robichaud have played elite competition, and I think Grosse Ile is coming together nicely. Their Region is pretty favorable, as well. A semifinal run could be quite possible.
D6 looks all sorts of stacked right now, especially SMCCs side. 9/16 of the teams on their half of the bracket have at least 8 wins, which is more than any other half of a division. Their region, as well, is as stacked as any region in the state.
Hanover-Horton is decent with a close loss to Manchester. Manchester is decent too, only loss coming to an elite Clinton team. Clinton has ROLLED over everybody on their schedule (class C schools). Their only close win was against one of the best of Class D, Morenci (who has also been destroying class C schools all year).
Jackson Lumen Christi is a monster this year. They've comfortably beat class B schools all year, but have only faced two teams with winning records. However, they gave Class B Coldwater their first loss. They're the real deal.
D6 will be Ithaca vs. Region 4 SMCC/Clinton/JLC in my opinion.
Solid to see Huron and Riverview par up again! Also solid to see that Huron has home turf! About to be a GIANT crowd at Huron!

Although nobody in the bracket will be a gimme, i like Huron's chances in that district. GI-Chelsea should be a good game. Not familiar will the teams in SMCC's district. I would be suprised if SMCC-JLC didn't happen in the regional final. EM
