Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Milan looked very good

Looks like Grosse Ile might be for real.

Is Romulus that Good?

Won’t win many games with turnovers and special teams blunders.

I was impressed with SMCC’s loss.

Airport looks better.

Is Summit that bad?

Looks like the Jefferson offense is explosive if healthy.

The league championship might just be a battle of attrition.

What game do I go see this week?

Thank you to the breakfast club at Farmers this week.

Look for my football picks in The News Herald this week.

Still working on a podcast.

  1. You choose where you live if the family doesnt like the school either get involved in your kids education or pick up and move ……..school of choice and charters are bad for the overall educational system in our state period yes charters for the most part are not well run schools remember charters in our state are businesses they are run by a ceo who gets paid while others are paid poorly within that charter the nuts and bolts of charters get screwed while the owner brings home the BACON that's fact!

  2. Grosse Ile is for real, but they still have plenty to prove.

Romulus may be good Riverview may be bad.

SMCC is always a force to be reckoned with, and will most likely finish within the top tier of the league.

The league championship could be anybody's.

    Airport can only get better.

    Mystery Man

  3. School of Choice may be giving kids opportunities they
may not otherwise have, but if you think Riverview has
gained any advantage ATHLETICALLY, the quick answer is NO !

  4. Its does say they have gained 289 from Lincoln park, but have lost 253 to other school districts. Wyandotte had over 500 Lincoln Park students.

I would be curious of some private school numbers, if there are such thing. Be good to know which public schools have the most lost students to the privates.

Numbers like this should come out more often, perhaps the schools with the losses could bust their ass a little harder to get their own students back. Low students, Low funding.

School of choice law should be abolished.

    1. It should be expanded. Why should someone be forced to send their kids to a particular school. Make your school better if you are losing kids. Get more involved; get your community involved and stop crying.

  5. Good read on AA.com about school of choice numbers in the schools around the state. They did the top 50 schools distrust benefiting from school of choice. Only one Huron League school on the list at number 7……. Riverview.

According to the article, Riverview has a 63% net gain from school of choice with over 1300 non residents enrolled. 300 from Lincoln Park. Thought it was interesting.

    1. Chris when are you going to start your picks this week? I think I have a couple of games that I might be spot on with, waiting for your picks to come out so I can compare.
And again your more than welcome to come to our game at FR.

  6. Chris, you are appreciated and so is the forum you've set up for us crazies. I love seeing the passion from supporters of all HL schools, especially the ones that haven't had recent success. Keep supporting your boys!
I like the insight on the other teams, since I only see those teams myself when they play Milan. Opinions are fine, but please try to back it up with something. Saying that SMCC was outcoached is hard to believe, and without any examples or supporting arguments it sounds like Hater talk. Don't be afraid of words like Because or Since. I may not agree with your reasoning, but it gives me something of substance to agree or disagree with–and that's a big part of the fun of this blog, IMO.

  7. The award for the best named football player ever (since Dick Butkus) goes to Parma. Steele Fortress by far wins. Good thing he grew up to be a big football player, and not a 5'2" jockey.

  8. Airport turns everybody in to the state. Heard many stories, especially in baseball. Coaches, don't even walk near your team in the off-season. Surprised teachers that coach haven't been turned in, I'm sure they have more than 4 in a class. LOL.

Never seen Airports football team in the gym in the summer, have you??? Nahhh
    Mind your own, play ball.

  9. I hope FR has improved. I really don't know anyone from FR so it's not fair for me to lay blame on any one thing. Do they have the athletes? Is it the coaching? I don't know. But what I do know is that I have watched Milan play them for the last 3 years and every year I see hustle and every player try. I believe they will come to play and give everyone the best game possible.
Milan should be 2-0 heading in to week 3 against RV. Not looking ahead but if RV is 0-2 coming in at Milan they will be very hungry for a win. I believe weeks 3 thru 7, that 4 game stretch will tell all for Milan this year.
I thought RV, Huron and Airport would be in the top half of the league. I left out GI due to their loss against Milan last year. I might be wrong after their win against Parma. So with all that said it just goes to show you can't worry about anyone else but you. 1 week at a time, 1 game at a time.
Chris I think you should go to the Airport game, that game has some early meaning in the league.

  10. Chris remember you missed the noon game between Jefferson and Grosse Ile last year and that was one of the better games of the year! Might wanna sneak into Jefferson Thursday night

  11. Is Romulus really that good? Friday night they were and I think they will continue to play well. But on the other side of the coin Riverview has a very young team and where 90% of the starting players it was their first varsity game with 3 sophmores starting. They will get better every week and this team has a lot of fight in them they did not give up.

  12. I'll give the young men from FR credit for the 'W'. The AD had to schedule a couple teams that could put some confidence back in a team that was 0-18, any other athletic director would do the same thing.

  13. I'm excited to see what happens Thursday night with new Boston and AP. I heard Dundee was doing very well until they botched a punt inside the 20 and started turning the ball over. No scrimmage really hurt them. Dundee wasn't happy that Airport turned them into the state. Lol

  14. Wooohh. Didn't know Summit was that bad. I thought they'd be better with the new coach, but honestly were better last season if there is such a thing

  15. I'm glad Flat rock is getting competitive again. The more kids playing football the better. With that said, Huron had fought plenty of slack for playing them even though the schools are close. I think eventually Summit will be ok in the next two to three years and once they get some transfers from Rocichaid. But after seeing them play, let's be honest. I'm pretty sure every JV team in the conference could beat them. Chris am I wrong?

  16. You do a great jo Chris and it's a fun site to read when the coverage in HS Football is not what it used to be. Look at the Monroe in Ann Arbor news but don't get much especially from Ann Arbor on the Milan football team. I like that people are passionate about their teams and
a lot of the times it's pretty simple that people don't want to hear the truths you speak because they love their teams. People in Milan love the coverage cuts we simply don't get it in AA and you don't get it online with the Monroe news. Thanks for what you do.

  17. Kind of quiet on here. Not to many opinions when they have to put a name or an email to things. Not surprising.

Listen, I want people to comment and I don't mind if it is anonymous, but don't call me out on things if your just going to continually be a jerk. I don't mind being called out, but if your not going to put a name on your constant criticisms then stop. If you don't like my comments, that I always put a name to, then don't read. Or put your name on your concerns.

  18. I will be the first to admit that I might be wrong about GI. Either they are much improved or Parma was overrated. We find out in Huron league play.

  19. If you go to Milan – FR game you can set up a pool, scores by quarter. Wouldn't go to Jefferson – GI unless Jefferson is injury free (excuses and "what ifs" are never fun to hear). Riverview – SMCC should be a great game to see which team bounces back. Huron – Airport is an old rivalry (game 56) and should also be a great game to see. I think you should do it the old fashioned way; flip a coin (home team is heads).

  20. Everyone seems to hate on flat rock because they had a couple bad years but now things are turning around for them and no one will give them a chance

    1. That's not true. I've talked a bunch about certain things making good points that you don't care to show. But it's your blog and I understand.

  21. Quite frankly nobody cares if you give them credit. These are 15-17 year long old kids. They played well and won. Why people wan to lesson such s thing on a Huron League blog is beyond me. A Huron league team won an out of league game. That's a good thing.

  22. I'm always amazed why there is so much disrespect towards Flat Rock? The game was on their schedule, they did what they were supposed to do. Move on. Huron played Summit two years in a row, including the year of their amazing run to Ford Field, and I don't remember this level of whining.

  23. Airport did look better, how much better than last year is still to be determined. This week will be a good test vs Huron which I expect will go down to the wire. Very real chance Riverview starts 0-3 with SMCC and Milan the next 2 weeks. I'm curious is Riverview gonna be down this year or is Romulus that good? No shame in the way SMCC lost for sure when many were picking them to get routed. They are still the team to beat in the league until proven otherwise. Impressive starts to the season for both Milan and GI who will both be near the top of the league this year. Also a nice win for Flat Rock. Sounds like Jefferson gave Ida all they could handle until injuries to key players, hopefully the injuries are nothing serious. EM
