Riverview @ Milan

Riverview (0-2) fell to SMCC 44-6 at home last week while Milan (2-0) defeated Flat Rock 30-8. Milan won last years game by a score of 27-7. Riverview leads the all-time series 9-8.

Riverview has struggled the first two games mainly because of youth. Junior RB Cam Rogers has been a bright spot for the Pirates while junior DE Austin Boike has led the defense.

Milan struggled a bit last week with Flat Rock but seniors Trace Lindeman and Demetrius Barnes eventually broke open the game in the 2nd half. The defense has been solid all season with numerous Big Reds leading the way.

This looked like an early season marquee match up in August, but the teams are headed in different directions at this point. Prediction: Milan 28 Riverview 13

  1. If Milan's playbook is so simple, why don't more people beat them in this league? Power and Counter are pretty solid football plays in the every level of football. Ask Mark Dantonio or Jimmy H or for that matter Urban Meyer about power and counter. They all have been pretty successful running it. And as far as throwing the ball in the dirt? Is that supposed to be a dig on the Milan QB? The kid who led them to a district title last season and 7 points away from upsetting Country Day. I think most teams in this league would be happy to have him. Am I wrong Chris?

  2. I'd worry more about your team then Milan's Playbook. You forgot one thing that them and SMCC do more than anyone in this league………… Win!!!!! lol

  3. Funny! When a program is down, excuses are a plenty. When a team is playing well, folks talk a lot of trash. Human nature I guess. I guess the "glory days" dads need something to do.

  4. Just let the boys play football. Not sure why everyone is hating on Riverview? It appears that they have a young team trying to run a new offense, two very tough things to implement, especially in the Huron League! I also heard they lost their starting QB and LB to injuries. Let's be honest, that will impact any team.
Best of luck to both teams!

    1. Riverview lost 2 of the 4 returning starters they had. It happens next man up. No time for excuses. Getting better each week is whats needed

  5. If you think that Riverview is not getting a fair shake, then you'd better hope they bring their A game tonight. If you think the predictions are out of whack, let us know how you think this game will go.

Riverview is a team with experience and injury issues, struggling to run their new offense, and have started the season 0-2, right? No hate here.

Of course, the most important game on the schedule is always this week's game. Milan still has to execute. Looking forward to tonight!

  6. It's not about 1 person. Coach does what he has too. And it works. I think he had 21 carries against Adrian. It's not about how many times he carries it, it's about being productive
. Both 9 and 6 have been very productive. It's about the game plan. No worries here. Last time I checked it's a team sport. Milan wins tonight, does not matter how many times 6 or 9 carries it. Both will make the most of each touch.

  7. The Haterade on this board is ridiculous this season. Lindeman got 184 on 9 carries in a win, and we're supposed to have a problem with that? Add in the 75 yard catch and run and you have 259 yards on 10 touches.
In a win? Works for me.
I have no complaints so far. Barnes and Lindeman have been as advertised, and–like all well coached teams–I expect Milan to get even better as the season progresses.

  8. Riverviews scripted play sheet was just stolen. The first 10 plays read as follows: run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run. Good luck Milan!

  9. FWIW, M-Live has Milan winning this one 42-14. Not sure that's based on anything more than the scores from Week 1 and 2. (Plus, it's always easier to pick against the non-local team) Fortunately, we can usually find better insight here.

  10. It will be a good game. Seems like Milan has more to prove and lose. The defense will shut down RV, and the offense. If firing on all cylinders will be hard to stop. It might be close at half, but I think Milan puts some distance between them in the 2nd half. Good luck to RV.

  11. Riverview has one option/strategy: Own the clock via sustained offensive drives thus keeping Milan's offense off the field – same thing SMCC was successful at in last years game.
