SMCC @ Grosse Ile

Be sure to check out the podcast. SMCC @ Grosse Ile

SMCC (2-2) is coming off of a 7-6 home loss to Huron while Grosse Ile (4-0) continued their undefeated season with a 49-20 victory over Flat Rock. The Falcons won the game last year in Monroe by a score of 35-7 and lead the all-time series 40-14-2.

SMCC will look to rebound this week by using their punishing ground game against perhaps the best rushing defense in the league. Junior Collin Woolford and senior Kevin LaPrad are a threat to go the distance every time they touch the ball. Defensively, the Falcons have been solid most weeks and will match up with a very capable Red Devil ground game.

Grosse Ile continues their improbable march to an undefeated season. The Red Devils rushed for over 400 yards against Flat Rock last week and rely on the power running of seniors Andrew Vollmerhausen and Josh Moskall. The defense has been stout against the run all season as senior Dominic Trembly anchors a very good Red Devil defensive line.

This ought to be a great match up between two teams who like to run the ball. The game could be decided through the air as senior WR Justin Moores against the Falcon secondary is a key match up to watch. A win here for the Islanders could set up an undefeated showdown against Milan next week, but don’t count out the defending league champs just yet. 1. You will be surprised 3:19. GI will be extremely tough on your D. They may not get 49, but I bet they get in the 30's. Too many weapons.

  2. playoff point ranks and a true ranking by people in the know, there are plenty, are two totally different things. Many teams have higher PP than Muskegon for instance, but maybe only 1 or 2 belong on the same field. What I'm saying is. You get very little credit for losing to a great team. SMCC will get about 1 point for losing to which will be an undefeated PW. on the same hand if you beat a scrub team, you get maybe 20 points. So in other words. Don't use the MHSAA for rankings. I will put out a ranking for you later in all applicable divisions. GI will be ranked and well as CC.

  3. They aren't true rankings, but they are the system that the MHSAA uses for the playoffs. The AP Poll is done by writers who many times haven't even seen the teams play. Neither one is wrong, just as, neither is right.

  4. SMCC "run" of the Huron League is over GI will "pass" away with this one. while SMCC offense will be held to under 14 pts again this week. The Devils D is much improved this year and their OC is second to none! GI wins the game and the league this year.

  5. 1:49, not sure what you looking at. Go on MHSAA website, look at rankings. They are all ranked according to points from the caliber of their wins. Points don't lie. GI and Milan and IDA are all ranked in the Top 10.

    1. Those MHSAA "rankings" aren't true rankings. It gives too much penalty for teams with losses. Even if you the lost to the #1 team in D1. There is no subjectivity. You can't base anything off those.

  6. 11:29 I agree this SMCC team is a little soft.. If they would bring it they would be undefeated.. In every game they loss they had their chances to win.. If they bring it they will beat GI..

  7. GI will outplay CC on both sides of the ball.
The Devils have too many offensive weapons for the Falcons to match up and the GI D Line will blowup the CC backfield.
    GI 35 CC 20

  8. LaPlante hasn't really impressed me. He doesn't deliver the blow like his brothers did. I would like to see him be more aggressive. Step it up a bit.

  9. We have 2 teams in the league ranked in the Top 10 in their division. I think there are some pretty good teams this year. GI and Milan are ranked.

  10. Let's go Red Devils-one more step to taking the league title. It's been awhile and this year we seem to have the team to run the table for the "ship". Let's get past CC and it will be ours!! "DEVILS"

  11. After this week everyone will find out that there are some good teams in the league, but no great teams. Coaching will come into play more than in recent years when we've seen some dominant teams from top to bottom. The best coaches who make the best adjustments and have the best preparation will win.

  12. used to Hate when people would always say SMCCs Line was gonna be weak this year, but now im starting to believe them… :/ – SMCC ALUM

  13. I would like to see GI win, and a Milan win to battle it out next Friday. If GI and MIlan both lose, it's going to be a crazy chase for the title. I'm pulling for GI. And I'm really not good at predictions but I'll throw one out, 21-18 GI

  14. CC is too proud of a program. They will try to erase last weeks loss. GI wants to open the game up, but I see SMCC slowing it down and dominating time of possession. SMCC 24 GI 20

  15. It's great to see our man from Canada has decided to join the peanut gallery. Welcome to the blog BUBBLES. I am a long time GI fan, and I know for a fact that this will not be a blowout. It will come down to the wire as it always does with SMCC. However, I do believe that GI has the ability to win this game by more than one possession.

  16. rugby, smcc will be able to run just fine tho. What im saying is vollmerhausen will not be able to just contain. He will have to come in to help stop trap, as soon as smcc runs trap enough they could have grosse ile on their toes. let us prey

    1. I disagree. GI's dline will suck up cc's oline freeing up the linebackers to make plays. I hear GI's stud MLB is returning from injury which can only help.

  17. GI is very good this year. Come out every game like caged animals and no huddle. This has kicked almost everybody's a$$. I see no difference here. SMCC does has a lot of heart and will battle back the best they can. In the end too much for SMCC.

    GI 27- SMCC 12

  18. Do you think poster at 10:58, 11:00 and 11:03 might be the same guy? All three predicting blowout wins for GI. Come on Julian.
    BUBBLES

    1. 10:58 I believe smcc had 264 yards vs Huron, and 184 were running yards…. and there's no way any HL team can put up 49 on their defense

  19. I like GI 42 Smcc 12.. Smcc doesn't have it up front on the O-line.. Going to be a long night for the Catholics. Go Devils..

    1. What makes you think grosse lies defense is so much better than cc's personally I believe this game comes down to linebackers. Vollmeehausen is a great player but trap will keep him honest so he won't be able to only contain the outside. Meanwhile smcc has a top 3 player in the league and 3 other outstanding linebackers. smcc comes on top 20-14

  20. Then your nog a true fan or alum. Your a fair weather fan who reaps the bendfits but flies south when the going gets tough. Be sure to set on the GI bleechers. Unbelievable.

    1. I am a FAN and ALUM. I am not DELUSIONAL. If you want to blindly follow your team and look like an idiot doing so, then you'll look just like those following UM or Jefferson. If you know anything about the game of football, and you are realistic about what your team can or cannot do, it doesn't make you any less of a fan. My parents paid the bills, and I have the diploma to prove my status as an alum.
