Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Is Milan that good or is AA Huron that bad?

Garden City was a good tune up for GI headed into the playoffs.

The Chief’s should probably move on from playing Summit Academy.

I think we have a full and healthy Jefferson  team now.

I nailed the SMCC overall record this season.

The better coached team won the Flat Rock/Hazel Park game Friday.

I think Riverview will be very good next season.

Will an opportunist emerge from the woodwork?

Playoffs!

I will be open to suggestions on which playoff game to attend on Friday.

I went virtually football free yesterday.

Look for a dual podcast from myself and Gary sometime this week.

Early favorite for next year’s Huron League Champ?

Will there be any coaching vacancies in the league next season?

I will post playoff match ups tonight and due in depth previews and pick later in the week.

I think Flat Rock and Huron should drop Summit and pick up State next season. It would still be an easy win.

  1. Grafton Inn.. very very quiet. Where are all the Airport supporters.. thought they were going to surprise us this year.. what's your prediction for next year?

  2. Thanks, 4:24. That's exactly what I was looking for. I look forward to seeing what Grissom can do at EMU, he sounds electric.

I'm happy to hear the folks in Riverview are buying into their new offense and are seeing the results of their trust in the coaching staff.

As for Airport, I thought they competed well in their game at Milan. It didn't look like they were giving up at all. Their short passing game did some damage, but their D couldn't contain Milan. If there are pitchforks and torches in Carleton for reasons other that wins and losses (who doesn't want to win all their games, amiright?), I don't know what those reasons are.

  3. The continued harassment by one influential family?? Because I'm sure it's only 1 family that wants a change in the coaching staff right?? Put it this way-I don't know of anybody between JV and Varsity that wants the staff to come back next year.

  4. Coach Tom: Pirates took opening drive for TD on Rouge, they were stalled on the 1" line on last play of half; otherwise it may have been tied at half. Pirates T ran well on Rouge (trap up middle and off tackle runs were effective) — even the limited pass game proved ok !
As for defending Rouge — don't believe there's an answer…..they were able to strike fast and move down field as they pleased…..we may not see a team challenge their offense until deep in the playoffs. Their QB is special (he didn't need to run against Riverview but was magical against Chelsea at WSU on the ground and through the air), their running back is a load and can burst up the middle at any time & their linemen are HUGE. They have alot of talent and are coached well. Their downfall is discipline — love to jump offsides and play with very questionable aggression (I'm being nice)….

As for Riverview: they loose very few senior starters, although great ones. They seem to have gotten better each week running the straight T. Staying healthy will be critical, but I agree with everyone else — they will be fun to watch next year (many underclassmen had the chance to witness Varsity football first hand and gained invaluable experience with a tough schedule)

  5. Much respect to the Pirates, considering that RR is one of the best D4 teams in the state. I selfishly was hoping to hear more about that game, such as how what was effective against Rouge and what Rouge did well.

  6. Im pretty happy with how view played last week. Next year could be special. Good luck everyone in the playoffs dont know what game im going to yet.
    -view hopeful

  7. Im really sick of all the negativity from the "fans"/parents at Airport( I know it's not all of them so I apologize to those who continue to support) and the person who posted that the coaches "screwed the kids" last Friday is a prime example, some of you need to get a clue, just saying. On a positive note, good luck to all the Huron league teams in the playoffs, hoping to get to a few games and it sucks to see two of our teams playing in the first round but good luck to all teams.

  9. Riverview looked a lot better the last few weeks on Offense. Even though they didn't put up a lot of points against GI, they were able to move the ball. I think the back field of Warlick, Rice, and Naif looked solid at the end. Next year those three with Rogers and Guthrie subbing in here and there should be good.

  10. AP job not open. Sorry. The continued harassment by one main influential family who wants it their way has been enough. Politics needs to rest. Let your coaches coach.

Run a team oriented sports program, not focused on individual success's, you will be much more successful.

The college sports you think all your kids are going to play are not all they are cracked up to be, especially getting up at 6 am everyday to workout for your sport and the season is 5 months away, plus pass your classes. Been there, done that.

Good Luck next year. Make your sports fun, quite worrying about getting recruited.
We all will be working regular jobs when its over anyhow.

    Good Luck next year

    1. Couldn't have said it any better. College football is a grind; increased academic load + practice time eating away at your study time = lack of sleep, injuries, and in my case minor depression. Be careful what you wish upon your children!

  11. I was talking to my son later on after the game, he said AA Huron had no intensity and no desire. Like they really didn't want to be out there. 0-8 heading into that game I guess I can understand. Sad in away.

    1. It's heartbreaking for a A.A Huron alum. Thank God I adopted Milan 5 years ago when my grandson started playing at Milan. The coach they have now is good. Hopefully he can get it turned around. None of the Ann Arbor teams were very good this year.

  12. Was at the Milan/AA Huron game. AA Huron seemed to only run 2 plays the whole night, either off-tackle, or QB option. Milan could've put up 100. 2nd and 3rd stringers played the whole 2nd half, with a running clock.
