Adrian @ Grosse Ile

Adrian (5-4) is coming off of a 24-17 loss to Bay City John Glenn while Grosse Ile (8-1) beat Garden City 34-28. The Maples slipped into the playoffs for the first time since 2011 and have qualified for the playoffs 16 times. The Red Devils are back in the playoffs after their absence last season and are making their 11th appearance in the playoffs. These two teams have never met on the gridiron.

Adrian is led by head coach Scott Cripe and senior QB Tyler Shephard. Senior RB Caiden Welter is a capable back. Senior Ty Peck is one of the best receivers in the SEC while freshman Antwan Ficklen Jr. appears to be a star in the making. Defensively the Maples are giving up 19 ppg and are led by senior MLB Blake Thompson.

The Red Devils are led offensively by a host of seniors that includes QB Josh Sheppard, RB’s Drew Vollmerhausen and Josh Moskall along with WR Justin Moores. Defensively Grosse Ile is led by one of the best two-way players in the Huron League in 3 year starter Dominic Trombley. Senior LB Holden Green has had a stellar season while playing along side of standout LB Aaron Blanzy.

These two teams are a mirror image of each other offensively and they have played a common opponent in the Milan Big Reds. The Maples fell in week 1 at Milan 27-13 while the Islanders fell on the turf at Saline in week 6 to Milan 27-6. GI is a senior laden team that can score in multiple ways and plays solid defense while Adrian is a balanced team, but while a solid team has beaten no team with a winning record. Pick : Grosse Ile 27 Adrian 21

(Gary’s Pick: Grosse Ile 35 Adrian 20)

  1. With a touch of hindsight this quote appears to be the lone piece of reliable intel: AnonymousOctober 26, 2016 at 7:35 AM
Don't under estimate the under dog (Adrian).

There might be something to the other comment about Milan having an advantage on artificial turf, they have a great, incredibly talented football team, they also have a very dedicated fan/sponsor base. Milan's field was a soggy mess on 11/4. Good thing for Adrian that Saline had it's own home playoff game or the Adrian/Milan game might've been played in the 48176…………. 2. 2011 vs 2016 – I would have to go with 2011 – WAY to many threats that year with (misspelled names sorry) White, Kish, Nellinbach, Christian on O and a whole bunch of D (Same group plus Judd, Alongie, Trombly, Berradi, Gape, etc.. that was super solid. Not to take away what GI is doing this year. They are very good but not at the same level, depth and speed…..

    1. Really? You need help figuring that one out?
It means team "A" should win the game because they are 8-1, have in most opinions the better team. But if they don't do their job or play to their potential hen team "B" could get the upset which would not be surprising because they are a decent team themselves.

  3. The turf makes a difference if your a speed, perimeter team which Milan is. Then when they establish this they hit your with the QB runs up the middle or off tackle. Wet grass/mud slows that down. Gi I like to get more down hill in their run game versus perimeter. So wet condition would have favored their style of play.
Its a fact not Milan bashing. Both team are very good. Hopefully Milan has found an answer to stopping teams running right at them in tight formations. if not an improved Jefferson and healthy Jefferson could pose them some problems. This could be a shoot out.

Adrian is not a consistent football team. GI should handle them at their house. GI big!

  4. Shut out all of the background noise Red Devils. The Maples are coming to the house of fire. Strap it tight, and show them how we play ball on the Ile. Play your game and you will win. Where the Dawgs at?

  5. If you watched the Milan/GI game, you would know that Milan dominated every aspect of that game. So it doesn't matter that it was played on turf. It could've been played on sand, Milan was just better.

  6. GI comes out prepared and gets the win to set up a rematch with Milan in the second round of the playoffs. Best of luck to all Huron League teams.

    1. He said you won… He said the correct score… And he said where it was played. Calm down buddy we all know Milan is the best team of all time. Don't worry I'm sure they can stop the T just fine too…

    2. Oh gawd, get over yourself and get off of GI's page. I think you people over at Milan have your own game to worry about. The Bears are coming to town, don't forget it.
