Looks like you hit the nail on the head with this call. Trace also made Offense Player of the year for Ann Arbor news. Congrats #9
Trace Daniel regardless of what some of these immature adults say, you are a great football player and are very deserving of this award. You have made your dad and I so proud of everything you have accomplished, through the naysayers and all the negative people you never gave up. You do not have to prove anything to anyone, the ones who love you will always be standing PROUDLY beside you. Now, on to the next chapter!! I can't wait to see you playing at the next level, and you will do amazing things on the football field in college just like you did in high school. Earned never given. #9mom
I know he wasn't mentioned as much as the other very deserving players, but Furtney returns next season.
Lets show some class and be happy for the young men chosen. Your teammate gets the MVP trophy at the team banquet, you don't stand up and complain why didn't you get it. Show some class for the teammate who did get it.
The blog has chose these young men for us to appreciate their accomplishments and offer congrats, not to complain.
Not a bad choice, I thought it would have been #6 from Milan.
OG ISLANDER
OG-That sounds familiar…..
Haters are going to hate… Always going to be people try and bring the best down.
I know my son better than anyone. It would not have bothered him one bit if someone else won an award. Especially a team mate. With that said, Trace knows the meaning of team, everything he has done, Meech has done, does not happen without the team.
I have said repeatedly that there are a lot of kids worthy of POY, there really was no wrong or right choice. As far as Nick goes winning the POY, no one can argue he did more on both sides of the ball for his team. The GI kid, there were several kids that could have won it, same goes for Trace. It's all good.
Barnes was deserving as well as Lindeman. Could have went with co-POY. It was a very tough choice. Both great players.
In 2 years the following has been
Barnes
3,011 RUSHING yards
1,895 passing yards (19 TDs)
55 TDs
Linderman
3,092 rushing yards
70 passing yards
568 receiving yards (7 TDs)
49 TDs
Even if you take the 568 yards Trace caught and 7 TDs, Barnes would still have 1,327 yards and 12 TDs which comes to a total of
Barnes – 4,338 yards 48 TDs.
Linderman – 3,162 yards 42 TDs.
NUMBERS DONT LIE!
So what your saying is 9 catches 1/3 of his passes?
I know Both these boys very well, and yes both are deserving. Like I said before, we know what both 6 and 9 ment to Milan. There will not be 2 players again for Milan that did what they did for the team. And that even goes back to middle school.
Trace is not a QB!!! We are talking rushing yards!!!!! Not passing yards
You make valid points and I clearly thought about co-players of the year. Clearly nothing political.
It makes perfect sense. Anybody who doesn't see the impact are blind. Cause if you going off stats and impact it's kind of a no brainer. With #6 as QB they are 18-5 and 12-2 in there conference. Bringing to from 4-5 record to a 9-3 record in a season span.. So the difference couldn't have been #9, he been doing his part said nice freshman year.. The difference to get over the hump was #6 controlling the offense. In his 2 years starting varsity QB they both have:
Rushing:
Demetrius 3,011 for 35 TDs
Trace 3,092 for 49 TDs
But the thing is Demetrius has 1,895 passing yards for 19 TDs… Which puts him at a total of 4,906 yards and 54 TDs
(Source: MAXPREP.COM)
Attempts???? Yeah you left that part out…
Demetrius Barnes #6 of the Big Reds should have clearly won it this year. It's been a lot of games on the line where he pulled them through passing and also rushing. Not taking anything from #9 but numbers don't lie.
1,549 rushing (1,667 w/ special teams for 19 TDs
1,022 passing for 11 TDs
Which comes to 2,689 All Purpose Yards 30 TDs
Granted the 4 years of varsity might of helped him earn it and that's remarkable BUT it's a yearly award and not a career award. Last year #6 was honorable mention and stats was better than 90% of the QBs listed. This year he's snubbed again due to what??? Politics?? Clearly this award doesn't go off stats and impact on the game but by votes..
At minimum it could of been Co-POY.
That's why it's tough to decide. You only have 2 guys choosing. A panel of voters could have got Barnes the POY,or someone else.
Honestly, us Milan folk know what #6 ment to us, and we also know we could not have the success without 6 or 9. They are very special.
Congrats #9. Nice Job.
Would like to see some recognition for Humphrey, the kid worked so hard he had to be helped off the field from exhaustion several times. I saw every team play, no other kid on here exerted himself that much.
The fact that Humphreys was listed as a candidate for offensive AND defensive player of the year….too me, makes him the overall PLAYER OF THE YEAR. He dominated for Jefferson….and goog all is his second sport. He gets my vote, and I don't live in Monroe. The kid is a stud.
Stats obviously mean a lot, although tough with a lineman. Value to one's team means a lot. Look test for sure. There were certain players that just looked the part. All the players listed including the offensive and defensive players of the year passed that look test . I think Gary and I were on the same page with who was chosen.
So what are you looking at to determine POY? Everyone can argue that each team has a kid deserving. Just curious on what your basing a kids credentials of earn the award?
Lots of players considered for Player of the Year. Obviously the last two were considered, but each one won another award. Players left that were considered seriously in no particular order were Andrew Vollmerhausen (GI) Mike Furtney (Milan), Nick Humphrey (Jefferson), Justin Laplante (SMCC) and Justin Moores (GI).
Furtney hasn't proven himself as POY, he still has a little growing to do. Size does not equal talent and skill.
Are any of these players returning next season?
No, they are all Seniors.
Furtney is only a Junior. He will be back next year. Already 6'5" and 265. Next year 6'5" and 285??
Congratulations Trace"Gazelle" Lindeman you are so deserving of POY. Off to bigger and better things!!
Coach Griff
#9 dad showing Wifey some love.
I think the Airport JV QB should get some mention lol
#9 dad I hope you stick with the blog it's always good to see things from a parents perspective. Especially a parent as educated as you
I'm not leaving. Actually enjoy it.
The thing about it is there are several kids deserving. POY, it really depends on how you look at it. Humphries from Jefferson, he was the bears whole team.
Without Trace how good would Milan be, or with out Barnes? Those 2 compliment each other so well.
The Moores kid in my opinion was the big weapon on offense and again, in my opinion was the bigger defensive scare for his team. Trombley was too.
Any of these kids are deserving. Their teams might not have faired as well with out them.
I really couldn't tell you who ment the most to "his" team, they all did. Who ever you give it to, you can not be wrong.
I have my MVP, my wife.
Who wins Huron league Player of the Year????
I'm sure it is Humphrey but I think #9 should of had it. The potential that he has and the records he set prove he is one of the best.
Trace will be a nice D2 D3 player in the slot
Trace will be playing tail back. We know this already.
Volmerhausen should have won
Trace out shined Volmerhausen. Stats prove it but so does the win against GI.
I think #9 for Milan is very deserving of this. Look at his accomplishments, record for career yards, TDs and points. His name will be in the record book 3 times. How many high school kids can say that? Great job #9, you made Milan proud.
The recieving really pulled him away from Humphrey
Had to not give it to Trace with all he has accomplished these last 4 years.
He has earned it this year forsure, no arguing. But for the future lets remember you put Offensive Player of the YEAR on the headline. Not Offensive player of the last 4 years lol
