Huron League Player of the Year

Nick Humphrey of the Jefferson Bears has been named the Huron League Player of the Year.  This award epitomizes what we feel is the best overall football player in the Huron League while meaning the most to his team.

“Nick is a special football player, the kid is a work horse”,  said Jefferson Coach Bruce Pickens and we at the blog agree. For you old school fans, I would say the best way to describe him would be a combination of Larry Csonka and Chris Spielman. Nothing fancy just a hard working, tough nosed, fast enough smart football player.

The 6-2, 205 lb RB/MLB rushed for 1,554 yards and had 18 TD’s and 15-2 pt. conversions to go along with 132 tackles, 1 interception, two fumble recoveries and a TD while leading Jefferson to their first play off appearance since 2006.

  1. If you really want to know Nick Humphrey, look nowhere else but his 5th hr Math class where he is a vocal leader. He is constantly challenging his math teacher including an intense discussion on "Graphing Calculators"

    – #7 cuz

  2. I have had the pleasure of being one of Nick's teacher's. He is a great young man in and out of the classroom! Incredible role model for Jefferson schools. Humphrey works hard at EVERYTHING he does, no matter what the task may be. I watched every football game, and know that he deserves this honor. This young man has a very bright future ahead of him. Keep up the awesome work ethic Nick. You make your Jefferson family proud.

  3. Great article today in Monroe News about Flat Rock football. Quality Stuff.

Lots of respect for Flat Rock football program.

  4. Nice Job Nick. Very impressive season. You will be remembered at Jefferson for many years with your efforts this season. Great example to many kids coming up in the program. Tony Panza's football days are still talked about today, yours will be too. Good Company !!

    GO BEARS !!

  5. Congrats, well deserved. The toughest kid I saw all year. Gave everything he had every play. That's what its about !

  6. I had the privilege of coaching this young man earlier in his career and you just know the kids that have it, and he had it. You knew he was going to do special things at the varsity level. Congrats to Nick and his family for raising such a great young man.

  7. Great choice and in my opinion the only choice because of what he did on both sides of the ball. Hard nosed kids that you love to watch play unless is against your team. One of the best HS football players I've seen in this league in quite a long time. Very impressive kid and well deserving.

  8. Take this kid away from Jefferson this year and they don't win a game. This is only my opinion, but he was their team. Sure they had some good players, but without him Jefferson would have lost a bunch and would not have made the playoffs. I bet he averaged 30 plus carries a game, and was their leading tackler, yea, no complaints here, very deserving.
And no disrespect to the rest of the Bears and their team.

  9. Congratulations Nick you and your teammates had one heck of a season. You definitely deserve this. Beach Rats 4 Life!

  10. This was the toughest kid I saw play all year, I have a lot of respect for his play. He had a bandage over his eye against Airport and was still making tackle after tackle. There were plenty of deserving kids for this honor but I couldn't agree more with this pick.
