Monday was the first day around the state for high school football teams to practice. Those include the 14 teams that we cover here at Friday Night Victors. Once again, the Monroe News and The News Herald did a nice job of getting out and covering the teams the first day of camp. You can read their articles here:

AP are out and about to busy now have more important things to engage in where they want to be inside looking out
Cmon Em.. it's your time to shine. Tell us how great Airport's JV was!
Great comment by someone, but unfortunately the one line didn't enable us to post it.
Unfortunately anonymous people are notorious for leaving dumb comments. Of course I do too sometimes.
The last 2 comments are absolutely stupid. If they lose to Huron, Riverview, Milan, and Tecumseh they make the playoffs. Beat someone decent?? They haven't beat anyone. Does that mean Airport people can't comment?
2 wins in two seasons. Beat at least one good team before a comment like that. So hasn't had a decent team in 5 years. Blame it on coaching or what you want. Just beat someone decent.
And AP will be happy with that just make playoffs year after year and be proud …….can you go further? Speed so are they physical or tough can they beat Huron or Riverview or Milan or Chelsea beat the big boys then come back
Airport goes 7-2 or 6-3 and makes playoffs this year. There's no way they come close to a losing season. A lot of speed on that defense and the line is looking very solid!! Duffey knows exactly what to do with these kids to get the winning mentality back!!
We'll see what kids make plays when they see each other this season..
How is Milan different then Jefferson? Coaching for one. Two…. 3 out of the last 5 league titles…Three…. 9 wins or more in 4 out of the past 5 seasons.
. And Jefferson loses prob one of the best hard nosed players in league history. No offense. But Jefferson wins one game last season without Humphrey. Kids like that don't come along very often around there. Milan tends to have those difference makers year in and year out. Over the last 5 years…. Dukes, Kanitiz, Barnes, Lindemin etc.
Huron league Fan
Huron league champs!
I agree. I mean how is Milan that much different than Jefferson. They both lost a very good quarterback and running back and they played two very competitive games last year against each other that could have went either way.
That being said I still believe both teams will have a good year.
From what I hear that O and D line for Milan is no joke.
I could see Milan taking a step back with the loss of the two studs in the backfield. EM
OH- Milan game is a no brainer.
I like the confidence at Airport but you probably won't beat Huron,Riverview,CC or Flat Rock this year. Not sure about the rest of the games.
Revamped coaching staff spells a better season here in Carleton,,,look at the schedule, the Jets could really have a good season
Dundee- W
Grosse Ile- W
Huron- W played them close last year
Jefferson- W
Riverview- Toss up game
Flat Rock- W
SMCC- W My upset pick of the season, Duffy does know the SMCC system
Milan- L
Tecumseh- L , Tecumseh could be 5-3 coming into this game
Duffy was a solid hire at Airport. Hopefully they can surprise some people this year. EM
Nope, just me piecing the teams together talent wise as I see them.
Monroe Carlson overrated!!
Gary isn't Smcc ranked 20th out of all high schools in the state in football? Is there anybody close to them in Monroe county?
This tier thing I hope you are referring to enrollment size? MHS Alum..
Smcc should be Tier 1.. the most successful Football program in the history of high school football in monroe county. More league titles then anyone. Nobody even close. More playoff wins then anybody. More state titles then anybody.. people bitching about kicking them out of the league.. nobody comes close to Smcc in football..
The only thing I might change would be to move View up to tier 2.
Maybe… but both CC and FR have plenty.
CC and FR should be tier 4 with Jefferson and Ida moving to tier 3. Putting CC that high after losing a lot following a subpar season doesn't makes sense to me.
A tier system might look something like this:
Tier 1: Bedford, Carlson, Monroe
Tier 2: Milan, Huron, CC
Tier 3: Riverview, Flat rock, Dundee
Tier 4: Ida, GI, Airport, Jefferson, Mason
Wow, 22 players for Milan. I had hoped that they were past the point of having less than 30 kids on the roster. It sounds like they will have a few players possibly joining the team or returning to the team after healing up, but that's a crazy low number.
Team previews will be coming out shortly but to answer your question. Monroe has quite a few nice pieces at the "skilled" positions. To name a few… Donovan Issac slot/CB
Spencer Knapp slot/S
Lane Kirk WR/DB
News Herald will have something on Riverview I believe. When they do, we will get it up. Or who knows, maybe Chris will head out there and do a little piece.
Nothing from Riverview?
Who are some backs and recievers at Monroe that you think will make an impact Gary?
Gary I heard SMCC has some decent size and if they get a oline rolling , watch out ??? Do you agree ?
I was out at Jefferson yesterday and CC for a bit today. Both teams are working hard and look quite solid.
