Jefferson is coming off a successful 2016 campaign which saw them make their way back to the playoffs. The Bears have made the playoffs once over the last 10 seasons. Jefferson is now lead by first year Head Coach Gene Gennoe.
Offensively the Bears will be lead by RB Blase Gennoe and Soph QB Larry Wiggins. Thomas Eads will supply the bulk on the offensive line.
Defensively Jefferson will rely upon Vaughn Gardner, Devon Rozmiarek and Mitchell Payment to keep teams out of the end zone.
A.J. Gennoe will add speed to all areas of the game in his first year on varsity.
All things point to this being a rebuilding year for the boys from the beach. Heavy graduation loss, new head coach, with the league being very tough and balanced. Week 1 is huge as it is very winnable and may set the tone for a young team and new head coach. Lose and things could go south quickly.
Gary’s Pick: Huron 0-7 Overall 1-8
Chris’ Pick: Huron 0-7 Overall 2-7
How about the fact that they have only had 3 wins or less, 3 times in the last 35 years. That's my focus. In recent times they have had a few rough seasons but you don't need to make your prediction every season based on those few years. There is a lot more to look at. Just my opinion. Many times teams are given much success that they don't deserve and many teams are given criticism that they don't deserve. Part of the blog I guess.
Since I started the blog Jefferson has had 24 wins in eight seasons. That's an average of three wins per year. I pick them to win two games this year. Sounds like I'm just going with the averages. Sorry that offends you. I didn't hear any complaints when I pick them to win the league a few years back. They went 4-5 that year.
Your prediction was 0-7 in the league and toss up for tonights game. Basically the heart of the season is the league games and you picked them to not win a league game. Its just a point, no one deserves that prediction, especially not year in and year out.
Who picked Jefferson 0-9?
One of these years, I would just like to see the bar a little higher. How bout a 5-4 or a 6-3 and then if they finish below that, its not as ugly. When a team is consistently picked to do poorly and they do better than you pick, crap hits the fan for you guys.
Typically the Jefferson pick is based on where they fit between the schools that they did talk too. Just saying. How bout a little respect. There are a few teams in the league that will have very rough years and only have a few wins, so Jefferson could be much better than you think.
9-0 is a bit much, but so is 0-9. Come on.
Chris-just predict everyone to go 9-0. Then everyone's happy and you'll never have to defend your reasoning.
Well, we did make it out to a practice and we did have people at their scrimmage. So we know a little. We were not given much info from Coach Gennoe but we did talk to him at the practice. If Jefferson goes 6-3 and we were way off, good for them. I wish them well as well as all the other teams we cover.
It must be hard for Chris and Gary to pick for Jefferson considering they don't really know much of anything about the team. So I will give them a pass on the 0-7 since their preview showed that.
Jefferson being 0-7 is highly unlikely. Jefferson's numbers aren't bad, many other schools have low numbers. I think this will come into play. Milan and Huron appear to be at the top of the heap in my mind, everybody else will be a toss up. I see 2-5, 3-4 in the league, along with many others.
Definitely not the Browns of the league. Flat Rock and Huron have held that spot for the most part. Huron several years back, Rams more recent.
Go Bears !!
Huron was the cellar dwellers for years. I remember spanking that ass every year in the 80's. 😂
Im pretty sure that would be Huron that are the Browns of the league
How is grosse ile an automatic win? Still defending league champs, jefferson is the browns of the huron league
Do you guys know anything about football?
I was at Jefferson's scrimmage at Dundee. If Jefferson picked 1 offense, I could see them having some success this season. Yes still a rebuilding year but not a complete loss. I am actually a SMCC fan but I could see our rivals winning 3-4 games.
Ida- Toss up
Huron- Loss
Grosse Ile- Win
Airport- Toss up
Milan- Loss
Riverview- Loss
Flat Rock- Probable Loss
SMCC- Toss up
Royal Oak- Win
Wow.
