  1. On Flat Rock and their playoff hopes.

They will beat 3 Class A teams. However one is AA Huron who will be winless and GC who may get to 3 wins. So not a lot of points there. If their 5th win is Jefferson(who may go 0-9) it will be dicey at best to get in with 5 wins. The Riverview win is a nice one to have in their back pocket however.

  2. Right now Snooze has Carlson dropping to D-3 in a district with Huron and Airport. Still a long way away, but this would spell bad news for those two. And a collision course with Riverview in the Regional final as their district is pretty average with Thurston being the only threat

  3. Flat Rock will have 3 wins against class A schools, so they will get in with 5 wins. They need to beat, Airport, Jefferson, or Huron to get in. They will win at least one of those.

  4. Who in the heck doesnt like trick plays anyway. They are apart of the game. FR needs to get back to what they were doing first few games and they will be ok.

  5. Flat rock coach running out of trick plays…. give me a break dude. You know nothing about football if you think Flat rocks success this season has been based solely on trick plays working.

  6. Injuries are going to be a huge factor in week to week play from here on out. We're starting to really see the injury bug hit a couple teams. Go figure it's after they play Riverview…No I'm not saying that in a cheap shot way.

  7. Flat Rock coach running out of trick plays.
15 trick plays in first 5 games?
This is their year, better get it done in next 4 weeks
ProbBly won't see 23 seniors and a bunch of 3 and 4 year starters again for a long time.
Chris is right, league has more parity than ever before.
Flat Rock could be 7-2 or could end up 4-5.
That balanced and mediocre this year.

  8. Flat Rock needs to win 3 of their last 4 to get in. Not sure how they will match up with AA Huron, but I would except really close games with Airport, Jefferson and Huron. Flat Rock just needs to focus and play week to week. They haven't been in the playoffs since 1990 and only one winning season, 5-4, back in 2007. Hopefully they can regroup after GI loss. Homecoming this week vs Airport will be a huge distraction.

  9. Hey Chris, outsider here. Just curious what's happening to Flat Rock lately? Are they just running out of steam, or are other teams just figuring out what they're trying to do?

  10. 6:17…no panties in a bunch, nope don't want Adam Kipf gone, he's doing a good job, Jack happens to be a friend of mine. Tool ? For stating my opinion? Well that's your opinion. Spoiled? You better believe we're spoiled at SMCC, we have the richest tradition in the Huron league in football and one of the richest in the state !!! Everybody hates us ? That's a strong, strong word HATE !!! That's just ridiculous and says a lot about you, you have the hate or you wouldn't have said it. Speak for yourself not the other schools.

  11. Intimidation? That is laughable. You really had your green panties in a bunch. Your probably one of the tools that wanted Kipf gone. Spoiled little brats. No wonder the rest of the league has hated you since you got here. You're probably one of the clowns to complain about Giarmo even after he won the state title.

  12. 8:46…that's called spirit ? Well I guess it's where you went to school and what they allow? Intimidation? That's a joke , and I guess it goes to who your coach is and who the leaders are on the football team ? It's just my opinion… oh yeah, no crying or tears !!! I was all smiles , cuz we won the game 21 to 10 !!!

  13. I'm so sick of the idiots on this blog. Huron was 4-0 for the first time in school history but we're going to talk about how they are poorly coached? They have 1 loss and it wasn't the coaching, smcc simply outplayed them and it started upfront. Right put McKay at quarter back in a run heavy offense that he's never been apart of before. That's really smart lol. He plays slot and wing which is a perfect position for him in the offense they run. I'm sure coach spiess would love all your input so he can be a more successful coach then he already is, so why don't you call/text him or even email him. I'm sure he'd love to hear your football knowledge and ideas!

  14. So many internet coaches out and about lately. Why do you not coach if you have all the answers? As Chris stated McKay is much better utilized as a 2 way player. If he is staring QB…who would be the Chiefs lock down defender? Also McKay is easily one of the best at coming up and filling/ defending against the run from the safety spot.

  15. Classless is going Facebook or something and calling the coach a no good loser. What those kids may have done is part of football.

  16. @6:56 it’s called spirit and intimidation, it’s high school football let the kids have fun while they get the last chance to play football for the most part. Quit crying.

  17. @6:59 I haven’t seen much negative toward Riverview?? Just have seen a lot of credit to how well they have been playing. Not sure what you are referring to?

  18. Smcc won its over with good job smcc. I dont agree this team was over confident. I do agree undisciplined. Im not a fan of kicking any team while they are down and definitely not a fan of bashing a kid. I know in life you will get hurt feelings and have to just get over it. But in football you win and you lose as a TEAM. I like this blog and appreciate the work you guys put into it. The chiefs will learn from this and move on. go chiefs

  19. Would everyone please cut Riverview some slack on this blog. They were terrible last year, and finally have a team that lifted some weights and finally got some hair on their #%*! Let them brag a little bit.

  20. Your kidding Gary about the sign at Huron about SMCC ? Did you see when they came out at the start of the game and they all huddled at the 50 and was stairring down SMCC? That type of stuff to me is just classless, my opinion. I have no interest in stare downs or putting up signs putting down a team. Hats off to SMCC for letting there playing do the talking, now that's class !!!

  21. @4:48 Obviously I touched a nerve. I'm not here to belittle you nor debate you. My point was lead them down the right path. Don't kick them when they're down, show them the right way. Sorry all life has shown you is disappointment, must be terrible. Good day

  22. @4:25 This isn’t little league anymore. If your team isn’t preforming you will get called out for it. Blame no one but the team. Feelings get hurt it’s life.

  23. I do agree McCay is the better quarter back after watching him last year.. he can scramble when needing too and he is elusive unlike coaches son (#7) who forces plays and gets scared and goes Down when there is someone in his face. McCay at Qb, #11 #4 #3 #5 simultaneously switching out for receiving core, #40 At running back to make long gains and #33 for power back and short yardage.. linemen get their game together and all goes well. Here u go spiess, that is how u will win games by more than 1 point.

  24. I think it's important to look at some certain stats. Right now Huron is four and one and averaging 28 points per game. Last year they were six and four overall and averaged 17 points per game. I think quarterback is the least of the Chiefs concerns right now. I do think they take bad penalties; whether it is continuous offsides or late hits that are bad penalties that hurt the team.

  25. You people are all a little ridiculous. Kids are kids let them play, this isn't the NFL most of these kids won't play again after they graduate. Let them have their moments and quit so being vindictive. They read this blog and the only thing they read is a bunch of crap from a bunch of (mostly) men who have past their prime. Lift the kids and help them improve. Support programs instead of putting them down.

  26. I read a huge sign at the gate pasted on a wall at arrowhead stadium(Huron), reading. "Hey SMCC, your Mom called, you left your game at home". Funny but you let the sleeping bear lie.

  27. 3:43… Can we not put blame on the coach. Its his first season and he's at a 4-1 start.. The position was open and being interviewed for awhile.. If you seem to know so much or could do better, you Should have applied for the position. He didn't have the program the entire tenure of his coaching career like Dan did. Dan was the advice of coaches prior to them coming onto varsity as to which players would play best and where, he's on a fresh start. 4-1 is a he'll of a record. Give credit where credit is due… My god.
