Quality Inn Quality Performance of the Week

Please vote on our Quality Inn in Monroe “Quality Performer of the Week”
in the poll to your left. There were many great performances this week
and we have listed 4 players that are deserving of that distinction.

Tristen Hines, Milan: The sophomore ran for 161 yards on 26 carries scoring 3 TD’s of 5, 5 and 21 yards.  Hines’ performance helps keep the Big Red’s playoff hopes alive at 5-3.

Jalen Johnson, Monroe: The junior ran for 133 yards on just 8 carries, while scoring on runs of 75 and 17 yards.  Johnson’s performance helps keep alive the Trojan’s playoff hopes at 4-4.  Rival Fordson awaits in week 9.

Cam Rogers, Riverview:  The senior RB ran for 135 yards on 26 carries and 4 scores. With this victory the Pirates claim their first Huron League title since 2004 and are playoff bound for the 4th time in 5 years.

SMCC Defense: The Falcon defense held Jefferson to 111 yards of total offense in a 27-0 shutout of it’s bitter rival.  Sam Cousino, Collin Woolford, Toby Huber, Mitchell Sherrard, Nick Marino, Briggs Hehl, Mitchell Duvall, John Ritchie and Gus Flint, amongst others, are leading the way defensively.  SMCC has given up a paltry 4.5 PPG over the last 5 games.

  1. Chelsea pounded Milan and there good… be careful what you wish for !! This is the playoffs, see where your program is at, you draw who you draw … you don't tank anything !!! Horrible thought, horrible !!!

  2. I don't believe that Flat Rock would beat SMCC if they played again. SMCC is firing on all cylinders right now.

    The Troll

  3. FR beats Milan and GI IF they played again this year so whats your point? You know how they say if ands or buts…..

  4. Don’t forget Smcc losing Haut and O’Brien at the beginning of the year. Also Smcc will return 8 on offense and 8 on Defense.. Smcc beats Flat Rock if they played again..

  5. Wow, take a look at the player of the week. Now that’s fishy. All of the sudden, in minute SMCC line is way ahead. Hmmm

  6. Agree with that Gary, FR needs every team they played to win this week. Get every point possible and hope they stay out of the Rouge district and they could possibly win 2 playoff games… Also I think if they were to play CC again, the game would be similar with the winner depending on who would make their extra points or 2 pointers.

  7. Interesting take for sure. Especially since the last time FR and CC played, FR lost their best player and CC got 2 of theirs back.

I'm pretty sure it would be a great game.

Flat Rock fan is rooting for CC this week. You guys need all the playoff points you can muster.

  8. Don’t forget that FR lost their top defender for the last 5 weeks. That’s a testament to how strong their defense is and how deep they are. CC is lucky to be in a lower division which allows them to look better. The only difference I could see from the last time they played FR is that the win by FR would be a much larger margin. I’d say FR could win by 14 minimum

  9. I bet SMCC has a longer run in the playoffs too. If CC and FR played right now it would be a much different result.

  10. The follow up posts aren’t all from the author of the original post. Most of them are from others who support the original post.

  11. Gary, Flat Rock has given up the least amount of points in the Huron league this season, and beat CC 14-12. There’s MY case and point.

  12. #80 for Riverview as a Sophomore is leading the conference in sacks in only 5 games
Look for him over the next 2 years to make things happen for Buc Nation

  13. 1:39 I think it makes more sense switched around but ya. I get it.

The time to nominate people is BEFORE we select our choices for POW, not after.

The fact I need to "defend" my choices is rather silly.

If you would like to see a great performance make the board, please email is at fridaynightvictors@gmail.com. Before Monday. Thank you.

  14. Classic case of taking the SMCC out of the kid but can’t take the man out of SMCC. However, good luck to all the Huron League this week

  15. CC Defense: Last 5 games: 4.5 PPG
    Last game: 0 PTS

FR Defense: Last 5 games: 12.5 PPG
    Last game: 7 PTS

Both played the same 4 teams and each other.

I made my case. Now make yours.

  16. Shutting out Jefferson? The Bears have heart and that'll pay off this week, but doesn't mean CC did anything great. On a good note, I love the blog and it adds an additional thrill to the season. Look forward to the Saturday morning news after regular season closes out.

  17. I'm not sure why FR defense wasn't given a shot. They stood tough on 4th and short 4 times to shut down Huron and only gave up a score on a lucky 40 yard pass that just happen to find a way to fall in just right. Or even Dotson who carried a great offense on his back and did it with a bum wrist. Now that's quality performers. If Gary can put SMCC in the mix, then I would hope Chris could throw a little love to FR.

  18. I am a FR Ram parent. I voted for Cam Rogers. I seen his video clips and watched him during our game. He is an amazing player. Good luck Cam!!!

  19. There is no reason for incognito with such a tight community. From our junior city football league, up through our high school, not to mention our alumni, support throughout is thick. "Pirate's fight better together!" There is definitely a lot of pride within! ☠💪

    Go Pirates!

  20. Here is a list of players in the Huron League that stood out this year in my opinion. It's difficult to remember #'s from the line so no disrespect to the big guys. This is based on just one game vs. View, but I'm guessing they had good seasons as well.
Flat Rock #2 had great hands and was very quick
#52 was all over the field on defense
SMCC #5 and #34 both seemed like the same type of player, both tough kids.
Milan #44 very good athlete and tough as they come. I think he got hurt like 4 times and kept coming back in the game.
#7 was fast and dangerous every time he had the ball
#74 very big and agile. Good luck at Wisconsin
Airport #4 Solid HL tough kid
#22 has wheels and can catch
Jefferson #2 has great speed and will be very good qb when Bears start winning
    #20 runs hard and tough
#79 stuffed up the middle pretty good
Huron #1 great tackler and physical player
#33 tough 2 way player, solid on both sides of the ball
Punter #? Best kicker by far in the league, pre-game FG's were pounded and 2 punts inside 10.
GI #51 big kid made a lot of plays
#7 had nice long run for TD
Just a few observations and shout outs from the Pirate's side of the bleachers.

  21. Alot of great performances each week, maybe next year you pick a player of the game for each game and not a player of the week. Just a thought.

  22. I love that the SMCC D line was put up too, it sounds like they put up a hell of a fight! The interior doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves. The blind side tackle in the NFL is one of the highest paid positions for a reason.

  23. Gary we like all your picks but just thought you might have overlooked!! Either one was a good pick either way!! lol

  24. Besides this isn't about being the best athlete of the week it's which school votes the most!! Congrats to all of the picks!!

  25. Wow tough call! I'm partial to Tristen Hines but Hunter Aueschbacher had 2 rushing tds and 2 kickoff returns for Milan 91 and 75 yds in Milans win over Airport!! Just sayin….lol

  26. We definitely don’t have a problem taking responsibility for our comments over here at Buc Nation. As for our fan base a student section definitely one of the best in the league.#homecomingkings

  27. I don't think anyone here in Riverview is using "incognito". I hope not anyway. I have seen this shared multiple times already on our Football Facebook pages, and our parents are super responsive on there 🙂 Plus we just love voting for our boys!

  28. I don’t know what incognito is, but it sounds intriguing. What I do know, is that Riverview has a strong fan base. Just come to any of our games, home or away. We support our kids!
