  1. MY NAME IS TOM AESCHBACKER….I DO NOT DO BLOGS….1ST TIME ON IT…..I AM NOT THE PERSON WRTING #44 FOR MILAN IS THE BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE…. HUNTER'S NAME IS SPELLED WRONG IN MOST OF THEM….I THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS BUT IT BRINGS A BAD IMAGE…. YES I SCREAM AND YELL, BUT I DO IT FOR EVERY KID….I HAVE KNOWN MOST OF THEM SINCE THEY WERE 9 AND I LOVE EVERY ONE OF THEM….SPORTS IS SUPPOSE TO BE EXCITING….. NOW I WILL ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS THAT I READ……YES HUNTER IS A JUNIOR, GOD WILLING IF MILAN MAKES THE PLAYOFFS YES HE IS PLAYING….NO HE IS NOT TRANSFERRING TO ANOTHER HS….AND YES OPINIONS ARE LIKE BUTTHOLES, EVERYBODY HAS ONE AND THEY USUALLY STINK…..

  2. Hines is also a great kid!!! He can play any position that he is asked too!!! And the best part is, Milan still has him for 2 more years!!! Imagine the things that get done with him on board!!! Good Luck to all the HL teams that make the playoffs!!!

  3. I'm not sure about one of the best players i've EVER seen. He was definitely one of the best players in the huron league this year. Thinking about Milan RB's, Ron Spears, Aaron White, Tim James, Lamar Patterson, Anthony Bates and Trace Lindeman were better.

  4. Don't know if anyone brought it up but Belleville's coach was D coordinator at Cass Tech. That's where he learned how to recruit. EM

  5. I heard from a reliable source this morning that the Belleville coach held out his offense and defensive starters in the first half for disciplinary reason against Bedford last night!
the reason the kids want to go to Belleville is the coach has a great commuting system with college coaches all over! They have a bunch of kids signing with Div. 1 schools all over the country! That is why they want to play there and that is why I almost sent my grandson there also! But our coach now has got my grandson a unofficial commitment with the U of Toledo so not going to Belleville doesn't matter to us and he stayed home to play with his friends!

  6. Great comment, the offense has put up more points than last year though. The competition has been better overall this year compared to last. I think everyone can agree with that.

  7. I have been one of coach Spiess biggest critics this year. But I congratulate him for getting his team in the playoffs his first season and last night at Thurston coming up with a nice mix of pass and run thru out the game. The frustration is we are not putting up points due to many factors. The D has played exceptional keeping things reasonable in the games we lost and coming up big last night on several occasions to stop scoring drives inside our 10 yard line. Going up against Carlson the D is going to give up North of 30 probably. Only chance is to try hang close hope some things go your way. Please roll the dice and change the offensive pieces around and give this thing a go. Again good luck to all the Huron League teams next week and beyond.

  8. Here’s the thing, and then I’ll let this go. We don’t mind anonymous posters because it usually Rah Rah stuff or questions or just simple comments that make the blog fun. I have allowed comments that do question coaches but when it goes to far I draw the line. When it becomes a witchhunt and people hide behind an anonymous name then I have a problem with that. If you have read the blog long enough you would know I always call out people like that. That’s just me. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to monitor the blog like I normally do. Gary does a great job, but probably has a little quicker trigger finger that I would have. That’s OK, I appreciate his work and he sure as hell knows his football. I understand, that sometimes I come off as trying to be the smartest guy in the room, but I do think I bring a unique perspective as a parent, a coach although of other sports, an athletic director, and someone who has followed the league since the mid-70s.m

On another note, I probably shouldn’t have gone off on Belleville the way I did but it doesn’t mean it’s not the truth. Maybe it’s my personal feeling that is creeping in as I lost seven athletes out of our school this year that I know were recruited to go elsewhere. One in particular, was my state champion hurdler who left after her freshman year to go to another school and I watched the schools Coach come up and talk to her. The kid had been at my school since the second grade. Anyway, that’s a whole different subject this recruiting around the state of Michigan. Fortunately it sounds like the MHSAA is going to do something about it. We’ll see if and when it happens.

  9. 10:07, If you are going to come on here and run people down, man up and hang a handle on your posts. It's really easy to come on here and throw idle thoughts and rants and question peoples pedigree under a cloak of darkness. I appreciate the blog, and the things that Chris and Gary do. It allows me to keep connected to the league and and one of the bonus things is the addition of all the non Huron League schools. I love high school football. I was fortunate enough 25 years ago to be able to coach high school football and I loved it. I loved working with the kids and helping teach them a great game. I chose a career path that does not allow me the chance to do it anymore, so this blog helps me attached to a great game. And remember this, when you are pointing a finger at someone, there are 3 pointing back at you. And by the way my blog name is Big Red Grandpa, but if I am going to participate like I want to I am going to use my real name from here on out.

  10. Just want to get on and extend my wishes and say how relieved I am that John Richie is ok. Nothing more scary than hearing about a young athlete, who plays for the love of the sport, to have such a serious injury. Prayers for all of the athletes that play ANY sport that they are kept safe and enjoy their sports experience to the fullest.

  11. I only criticize the anonymous cowards that write garbage and drivel and I always sign my name. There is a big difference. Do you understand anonymous coward? Oh, he has trouble with the snap, the ball is picked up by Chris and he SCORES! Victory for ME and all the non-cowards.😉

  12. I don't know enough about Bellville to get the hype. What is so special about Belleville that people send their kids there to play? Is it a good school, in a subpar surrounding area? Is the coach that good? The facilities top notch? Why Belleville?

  13. 7:37, that might be the silliest comment I have ever read on the blog. I have never met Chris or Gary(I hope to one of these days to thank them) but for these two men to develop and build a forum where people can go and talk about the game of football, donate their time researching and developing this site into what it is today for no pay is commendable. Be appreciative not spiteful! And I'm not too afraid to sign my post!!

  14. Amen Milan Fan, I have been following The Big Reds for the better part of 10 years. Our boys leave everything on the field every game. It is always a joy to watch the kids play. I have not a child/grandchild playing there since the fall of 13 and enjoy supporting the Big Reds and all of the Huron League teams! Good luck to all the Huron League teams in the playoffs.

  15. If you want to check something out on Belleville. Look at the juniors on the 2016 roster and then look at the amount of seniors on the 2017 roster that weren't on that 2016 roster. It says a lot.

  16. Coaches are suppose to put players in position to help the team win games not put certain players in positions to achieve individual success ahead of the team.

    TSL

  17. Just wanted to wish the Bears good luck and thanks for playing tough each week.I saw your triple overtime loss to Flat Rock and you played your hearts out!As a Flat Rock fan we know how hard it is to not win a game as it happened to us just a few years ago. Hang in there Bears!

  18. Challenges the football background of a poster while possessing virtually no football background themselves and running a high school football blog. Priceless.

  19. I would love to know the percentage of Belliville players that reside in that school district….. My guess is around 30% of those kids don't. Bedford is an above average team this season. They should pray that Canton or Saline play really bad round two, cuts they will be going home within the next two weeks. Great players….. Terrible coaching

  20. There are def a few fans at Milan that act like idiots and yell at the coaches when they've literally done everything they can to be competitive with 19 kids and losing some exceptional players to injury. This happens everywhere though and Huron is getting now more than ever. All from people that don't play or don't coach. The people that sit in the stands and know football just laugh at them cud there are always a few dads year in and year out that think their kid is D-1 or their kid is getting screwed in playing time or the wrong position. This is HS sports across the country lol….. Gotta take it with a grain of salt and laugh at them

    Milan Fan

  21. #44 is super tough for Milan! He has scored 4 TD kick returns on 10 kickoffs!’ He also does it on defense and offense. Even when he is injured he keeps on trucking! I don’t think everyone realizes what this team has been through this year. However, they plAy hard every single game! Best officiating I have seen all
    Season.

  22. #44 FOR MILAN IS THE BEST PLAYER IN THE HURON LEAGUE. I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THE HURON LEAGUE ALL YEAR AND ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE. I THINK HE IS A JUNIOR AND THE KID CAN DO IT ALL. #44 AESCHBAKER EXPLODED THRU LINCOLN UNTIL HE GOT BANGED UP IN THE 2ND QUARTER. IT LOOKED LIKE HIS KNEE. I HOPE HE IS OK FOR A PLAYOFF RUN.

  23. CHEIFS, RAMS ,REDS, next time you see Airport Jet give them a sincere thanks for there win over Tecumseh tonight!!! I think that win was YOUR best play tonight!

  24. Huron league dad loved seeing that Bedford over Bellivelle score early in the night! Being a Lincoln Alumni another reason! But hoping Milan would have beat your Alma mater means your a Disappointed Huron league dad tonight! For quite a few reasons! Enjoying the ride boys! Thanks

  25. CHOO CHOO I'm a Huron fan. i would think we would except an invitation to Pirateville. Heck if our offense could manage to score a TD or 2 it could even be a game but that seems like wishful thinking after the last 12 quarters of play. D held you to 20 points last time with just 6 points scored in second half. The pressure would be on you because we probably shouldn't be there in first place. Good luck to all Huron League schools in the playoffs unless we are playing you. Lol. Still on the reservation with my CHIEFS!!!

  26. More than a couple bad spots late in Huron Game. At the end 4th and inches Huron took time out crowd was yelling for a measurement ref moved ball back a foot! But as predictable as Huron offense is we get 5 yard penalty! Get the 1st again! Then a series of incomplete passes close to goal line and that's the game folks! Son said the weight there defenseman some over 300lbs became tiresome!

  27. Wasn't kids, was a resounding chant from the Bedford parents, fans, and student section around me. I was thinking, uh oh, this may not be good. It wasn't. Great effort by both teams, but, Belleville's Staff made the adjustments.

Huron League Fan, but, love all High School Sports

  28. At the Huron/Thurston game there was awful officiating by the referees. I know that Huron should not use that as an excuse but it was sad to see the referees screw the kids like that.Coach Johnson was a great motivator for the kids today. Coach Speiss has done a good job with this football team and I believe with a few changes in offense and defense this team could have been competing for Huron League title. Phil Martin had a great game tonight with a punt block that led to a touchdown and two interceptions.

  29. … when you see the score is 21-0 Bedford over Belleville, and forget its kids playing the game and the chant in the crowd surrounds the stadium "OVER RATED, OVER RATED, OVER RATED!"…. Then you realize when the 4th Quarter buzzer sounds, you lost to that "Over Rated Team" 27-24. Wow, what a game.

Agree Belleville has been on a recruiting mission and they will probably dip into the Huron League, but, damn, wondering if that comeback would of happened without the disrespecting chants? Stay classy fans and air conditioners!

Huron League Fan, but, love all High School Sports.

  30. Some thoughts on tonight's games in the Huron League. Every team in the league played a school bigger than them. The league went 3-5. No surprises really. I thought Milan played Lincoln tough. The game was much closer than the score. I'm not a fan of taking a knee when a player is hurt. Thats uncomfortable and kids tighten up doing that. It's basically a youth thing anyway. The sound system at Lincoln sucked. You couldn't hear anything. Not surprised with the Riverview and FR outcomes. They were the two best teams in the league this year and should be playoff ready. Nice win for Airport, Tecumseh had everything to play for and an early lead. Kudos to Coach Duffy and his staff for getting his kids ready to win in week 9. I really thought Jefferson could get one this week. Royal Oak must have played well. Watched a little of the Huron/Thurston game via Facebook live. Thurston looked big up front. Were there some bad spots or calls late in the game? The GI/UD score surprised me a little. Nice to see the Islanders keep it competitive. Looks like SMCC played fairly well against a good NDP team. They should be playoff ready, hopefully they get in.

  31. Oh yeah coach johnson at huron has been awesome and very motivating for the kids. I dont know if he reads this or not butjust want to say thank you

  32. Alot of huron parents are upset with the way things went this year. And there is legitimate reasons. Im not gonna bash anyone on here but the fans the parents all know what im talking about. Its just unfortunate that alot of us are done after this year cause our kids are seniors.

  33. It's a cop out to use the go to "you got a dog in this fight". No kids ever in the program and haven't coached in the HL since the late eighties. Only offering my opinion based on what I've seen. You started the debate questioning my innocuous comment about the sad condition of the Huron program. You decided to defend the coach that I didn't even criticize. My observations are undisputed- they lost 4 of 5 and 3 in a row. There was higher expectations for Huron this year. Even Gary picked them to win the league. 5-4 is not good enough this year. It's your blog, do what you want with it. My parting comment is that players have talent, coaches need to maximize that talent. Period. Good luck with your endeavor called "FNL".

  34. A significant amount of football background yet you don't coach? If you truly had that background, you would either be coaching or you wouldn't be critical of the coach with that much passion. You have a dog in the fight. It's obvious. Shame on you!

Here's the thing, the free shots at the coaches that are basically baseless are over. It's my blog and I am monitoring the comments. If you want to take shots, attache a name. Period! How about you argue with some sense at my solid argument that I just made for why Huron is 5-4. Let's see that football background.

  35. Don't want to sound like sour grapes, Lincoln won fair and square. But, they showed little class on several occasions during the game. One of Milan's players went down with an injury, they didn't take a knee like most teams do. They were talking trash most of the game. At the end of the game, their punk QB at the end of the game ran by Milan's student section taunting them and pointing at the scoreboard. I guess the kids are an extension of their parents and coaches. I can tell you if I saw my kid doing that, he would have to answer to me. Take your win Lincoln, if you continue to act like that, you'll lose in life.

  36. Like Chris said Huron was a laughing stock not too long ago. Going 5-4 in a competitive league is not bad considering you'll still probably make the playoffs. And 10:43 we expect no parades. But we should be better next year with plenty of good underclassmen returning. EM

  37. Rudderless? Wow. You might as well plan on moving, then, 10:41. Your head coach's first season was so much better than our head coach's first season. If winning were only as easy as just wanting to win…

I saw Chris at the game tonight as well. Not close enough to say hi, but maybe next time. The FNV gear is going to be in demand, though, if Chris keeps showing it off on location!

Maybe I can order a windbreaker for myself and have Anonymous embroidered on it…

  38. Huron is a decade removed or longer from being a laughing stock. Kalby turned that around. They had an opening when he left and went with a guy who knows nothing but winning. Huron did what they should this year with their non-league schedule, they split. They lost to a good SMCC team, the Huron League Champs; Riverview and FR's best team in over a generation. The offense could have been better, but they scored more points than last season and didn't have hapless Summit or a bad Avondale on the schedule. I write this every week. Players play, coaches coach, parents cheer, not jeer. Will you even attend a game after your child graduates?

  39. Guess we need to be "same old Huron" eh Chris? Happy to not be the State's laughingstock. Where a nearly 500 record is cause for exuberance. Losing 3 in a row and 4 of 5 is sad. Being one play from being Airport makes me sad. Seeing unfulfilled promise and a rudderless ship makes me sad. Yep, sad to see what Hurons program is.

  40. 10:27 who cares? This is Riverview's best team in 13 years. I could ask you the same about Carlson. See how that works.

  41. Without naming the opponent website, you are the only one that has CC in. The others say CC had to win to get in or get some help with a loss. Not my opinion, just regurgitating what I read.

  42. Milan turns it over on downs and Lincoln hits a backbreaking 70 yard run on the next play.

Great heart by Milan but they now trail 35-14 with just over 3 minutes to go in the game.
