Bedford 2018 Season Preview and Prediction

The 2017 season saw Bedford make the playoffs for the 7th time in the last 9 seasons, with a record of 6-4.  The Kicking Mules are lead by their 11 year veteran head coach Jeff Wood.  Jeff has compiled a very respectable grid-iron record of 73-33. The Kicking Mules return 27 letter winners.

On offense, Bedford returns some excellent skill people. Senior Austin Malabanan returns as the team’s QB after leading them to the playoffs in 2017. Sophomore Luke Carver has been pushing for playing time and may get an opportunity to lead the Mule offense.  Backs Christian Brown and Kade Cornicom were contributors last season and appear to be poised for big seasons this year. Alex Salzmann, Cade Nelson and Griffin Geiger are returners on the line.

Defensively, the Kicking Mules gave up 23 ppg last season. Blake Wingate and John Ponke return on the defensive line. Austin Hammer is expected to be a contributor in the defensive backfield. Look for athletes Jacob Ehlert and Jacob Zeller to get opportunities on defense.

This has the makings of a down year in Temperance, but never doubt a Jeff Wood coached team. The Kicking Mules have talent and a very good, yet unknown junior class. If things come together, you could see another payoff year and possibly an SEC Red Championship for the Mules.

Chris’s Pick: 6-3
Gary’s Pick: 4-5
Frank’s Pick: 7-2

  1. Bedford scrimmaged Milan on Tuesday at Concordia. Milan dominated that scrimmage. I think the Bedford faithful was surprised. Not the best Bedford team, but they should win 5-6 games with the 3 AA schools all being terrible. Milan looked like the better team, which bodes well considering Bedford had twice as many players. Milan scored at will and was very tough on D. This was not the case the last few years scrimmaging Bedford. Milan held their own, but this year was a better team top to bottom. With that said, it's just a scrimmage.
