Here is a look at a few of the stars from Friday night.
Jodeci Mays: The Airport junior rushed for 181 yards and 4 touchdowns on 19 carries as the Jets whipped Jefferson down in Monroe Friday Night. Mays continues to lead the Huron League in rushing while lifting the Jets upon the league standings.
Robbie White: The Grosse Ile sophomore threw for 215 yards and two scores in the Red Devils 30 to 20 loss to Milan. White hooked up with his favorite target Jim Cameron 7 times.
Joe Conner: The Flat Rock senior exploded for 155 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Rams earned their first victory of the season over Riverview. Conner also added an interception for the 1-3 Rams.
Tyler Weclowski: The senior LB from Huron was credited with 25 tackles in the Chiefs 20-19 loss to SMCC. Weclowski delivered several bone jarring hits including a Dick Butkus type hit that loosened the fillings of SMCC’s Andrew Lamour in the 1st quarter.
Luke Yinger: The speedy junior from SMCC made two great plays in the Falcons 20-19 win over Huron. Yinger scored from 45 yards out in the 1st quarter and made a play in the 4th quarter that may have saved the game for the Falcons. The Falcon CB caught Huron’s Sterling Wilson on a break away late in the 4th quarter. Yinger looked like he was shot out of a cannon as he caught Huron’s speedy back at the 15 yard line.
Tyler Weclowski had 18 tackles against flat rock.So everyone who said his one game was a fluke, think again. He has 71 tackles on the year now and 61 in the past 3 games. He IS the best defensive player in the region no doubt. He should be defensive player of the league if he keeps this up.
Everyone on here keeps talking about how "bad" Huron's "D" is.
I don't really understand this talk.
They gave up 2 td's against Mason, the first play of the season on a trick play (seems to me a good time to catch a team amped up) and the 2nd late in the game against their 2's & 3's.
Airport put up 50 something, but they have been doing that to everyone, including what is turning out to be a good Bedford team, Milan & Jefferson. Obviously Airport has a great offensive team with an exceptional line.
Jefferson scored 28 against them with a power running attack. 2 of the scores came with Huron pretty much in control.
SMCC scored 2 td's in the 1st quarter on 25+ runs. Nothing again until the long run by Howie on the keeper. Now they did move the ball and pick up some key penalties in key situations. But Huron came up with big stops when needed.
So, the talk of the "D" being horrible I think is a little overboard. Now, they are the weaker of the 2 units, I will give you guys that.
It also goes unnoticed how long the "D" is on the field. In 3 of their first 4 games they have played teams that run the ball 90% of the team and try to control the clock. With Huron's quick strike "O", the T.O.P has got to wear on them.
Just some thoughts. Let's see how they play against the so-called "lower echelon" teams in the league before calling them "Horrible".

Family decided to watch the Huron/SMCC game before heading up. I wrote a quick summary of the game and left for the UP at 10:30 arriving in the metropolous of Cedarville at 3:30 am. The hotel even waived my cost for Friday night because we arrived so late. What a bonus!

The kid has a good start 53 tackles and was pulled out at half time at erie, and played hurt at Airport.And on off. he has 200 yards rushing with 4 TD.
weclowski been playing LB and TB both ways for 10 years.he 195 runs the 40 in 4.76 hes 6' and benches320 not to bad.Pretty good BB player to started on Hurons team last year.

yes very good linebacker i would put him in the top with Miracle and Lovell from SMCC… Nava Graves Close from Airport… Sterling Wilson isnt bad either… League has good linebackers i dont think we will be able to tell who was truly the best until end of season
Okay yes he had 25-28 tackles… That is a lot lot lot of tackles… But he was one good game where he seems to be the only good player on the D because we all know Hurons D is not very good… So he might be the only good one and CC runs at him every play… Yes a lot of hard work… But to say he is going to have a nice career at the next level or the only reason he doesnt win defensive player of the year is because he is on huron and not a more winning team CC or Airport… thats just ignorant… he wont play next level he is 5'11 175… yes very good game but hes getting a whole lotta hype for one game… just calm down and see if he can keep it up and if he does very good week in and week out he will win defensive player regardless of team…
weclowski good size? isnt he about 5'10'' wearing heels? But he is a very nice HS linebacker, if anything he is like a poor mans version of jake duffey at monroe a couple years ago. And duffey got absolutely zero looks cuz of his size much like weclowski, its terrible that he doesnt have size cuz he is a gamer and knows how to make plays. Something to think about…Nava at airport is quick, aggressive, and smart, if he has missed a tackle this year i havent seen it yet, and also the middle linebacker at airport dylan close. Close is 6'1'' 190 runs in the 4's in the 40, benches small trucks, and loves the game of football. That alone will carry you in HS. If weclowski played at airport he'd be a nice asset but Close would remain the strong side linebacker and Nava the outside. Weclowski would fit in perfectly at a weakside backer, but still airports got two studs who know how to hit you, bust your chin, and get in your face, perfect linebackers

Tackles the 15 tackles was directed at the blog that said its easy to get 28 tackles on smcc.I said no one has even had 15 againt smcc not that no one has 15 tackles any where.
i agree hes still good im just saying he had a great game and you cant base it all on just one game cus where was he against airport? you know what i mean? im not hating cus he is a good player im just saying he needs to play solid games more often.
QB guy are you hereing what your saying.In high school FB wins mean the most.Hope you didnt stay up all night to figure that out.Mayrand would start for Huron or Airport.Any one can hand the ball off and run.Jones is a second string RB who hands the ball off thats not a QB.
I feel like I have to jump in here. The game Weclowski had was one of the best I have ever seen a Huron League LB have. The kid was everywhere and he delivered hits you rarely see in high school.
I think he is a serious defensive player of he year candidate but will probably lose out because Huron's overall defense is not as good as Airport's or SMCC's.
I would be willing to bet the kid has a nice career at the next level. He has good size, good speed and knows the game.
weclowski had a heck of a game. i will not knock on that but its taking it a little too far to say hes the best deffensive player in the league just cus of one game. a blind squirle finds a nut every once in a while. hes a middle linebacker and cc runs up the gut. he did his job and congrats to him. once again great game just dont over hype it.
18 and 28 arent really the same!?!? the weclowski kid played on offense too most of the game. i dont think nick riopelle runs the ball very much? I would take weclowski over anyone in the league. He is a pure bred STUD.

Nowhere did I mention anything about professional quarterbacks in my comparison of Jones and Mayrand. I specifically said in High School, wins mean the most. Jones plays within his system better than Mayrand does his, but Jones could fit into another team's offense just as well. Here is food for thought, if Mayrand went to Airport, who would start? Or, if Jones went to Huron, who would start? Answer to both questions, Jones.

Ok yes GI hasnt looked bad so far ill give you that but theres one fact that remains. GI's remaining schedule includes games against SMCC, Aiport, and Huron. The defense at GI hasnt been tested yet. If after those games there numbers are still good then theyll have my respect, until then i remain skeptical.
smcc did do a great job of shutting down Huron in the second half.But who ever was covering Stockert let him get a 110 yards it dose matter.And about points it was only a one point game.Its not a burn to the kid covering Stockert it just shows what a great reciever he is.
You said in your blog Jones has abetter team. That dose not mean hes a better QB you could put Tom Brady on the lions and he would suck.
If this is true about smcc and its easy for a LB to get 28 tackles why dont it happen a little more often. How about even 15 tackles has not happen yet this year.
The guy who said wins is all that matters for a QB then why do D1 schools look at QB rateings so much.Wins have alot to do with the rest of your team dont you think. Is sanchez better then brady the jets won today.Stafford sucks or is it because hes on the lions come on.
Some facts regarding the GI season.
1.Detroit Western International has not lost a game since they lost their opener to GI (2 wins and a forefit)
2.The GI defense has given up 6,23,15,and 30 points in ther first four games. (MJ Scored on a Kick off return) That is about 19 points a game. The defense has score one safety
3. On a fourth and goal to go with thirty seconds left in the game MJ chose to kick a field goal from the two and a half yardline when they were down by a point….not power it in. Smart coaching decision, but some respect for the defense by MJ.
4. Last year the GI team had only three seniors…the average age was less than a junior… basically everone returned and they are still overall very young.
Those are all facts,not opinions. As far as an opinion, they will probably continue to improve and they have all ready shown more than most people thought they would.
Stockart= Best wideout in the league and region. weclowski huron pretty hard and really rose up to the challenge. smccs qb howey can really fly.
to the guy who said yeah GI top 3 in all offensive categories? Too bad they gotta play defense to huh? I mean they cant stop anybody, sorry GI gotta play both ways and you just cant do that
So if Huron had the better QB, receiver, tightend, O-line, D-line, and a running back that was fast and shifty, why didn't they win that game? Perhaps coaching. The Falcon staff, especially the D-coordinator, made some great half-time adjustments and shut Huron's offense down in the second half. They know how to make big plays when they need to. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.
mayrand is good no question, remeber white is just a sophmore…in 2 years he will be way better then mayrand…little bit of a stronger arm without as good of disicion making..give him time and he could be a good one
There just seems to be a lot of hype on GI this year. Quick things to know, they beat Detroit Western International who i dont know much about other than they had a combined zero wins the last two years, and a winless Riverview. Losses to Milan and Jefferson who are a middle of the pack league teams at best. Still have to play Airport, CC, and Huron, so its not looking too good. And who knows its possible they could lose to Ida. Just wanna get rid of this GI nonsense, they're not too impressive
You cant put jones in the same category as mayrand? C'mon ok yeah airport has a good line good backs and so the need for thirty yard passes isnt necessary as much as it is at huron. Against jefferson he threw a couple outs to the split end 15-20 yards downfield, and threw a 40 yard pass to Draftz for a touchdown. He also slightly overthrew twice on 30 yard post patterns that would have went for Td's. One thing Jones does better is run the ball. Best dual threat QB in the league, that offers more problems for a defense when you roll him out, giving him an option to run, throw short, or throw deep which he is more than capable of. Mayrand is great but for the offense airport runs there isnt a better option at Qb in the league than Jones.
For a high school quarterback, wins are the only thing that matters. Mayrand isn't better than Jones, because Mayrand's team didn't beat Jones's team.
Huron didnt score in the 2nd half… ya I would say Yinger and the Falcon D did pretty darn good. Its not about yards its about points.
you think white doesn't throw deep? check his yards per completion, and his rushing yards if you think maynard runs and white doesn't. maybe you are basing this on his first game when the field was soaked and it was pouring all game but since then his numbers have only gotten better.
About the 25-28 tackles…. yes he is a darn good player… but CC runs up the middle EVERY play just about. it isnt hard for a line backer to get in the mix against CC. good player for sure however.

Robbie white and Daniel Jones don't compare to Mayrand. White and Jones throw short passes to get them by where as Mayrand and huron together do run plays and passing plays; long passing plays. Mayrand has thrown 2 int's, yeah. but show me ONE QB THAT DOESNT!? Ya. You can't.
Stockert 110 yards receiving and you think Yinger did a good job come on.

What is the single game record for tackles in high school.The kid only played a half a game against Erie Mason and had ten.Airport he was hurt and tryed to play and only had three.Jefferson was fifteen and twenty eight last night.As a JR he had seventy.
Yea Weclowski is def the best defensive player in the huron league.
He actually had 28 tackles and an int. plus 5 carries for 30 yards and a td.That was THE GREATEST individual defensive performance I have ever seen. One of the best linebackers i've seen in a long time.
Weclowski was great fans could not beleave it on both sides.Never seen a high school LB play like that.But the numbers are wrong i checked it out and he had 28 tackles comfirmed on the monroe evening news site.
Robbie White along with Daniel Jones are the best QB's in the League..Mayrand does put up good numbers, but has thrown 2 key INT's in clutch situations this year..
Yinger from SMCC is very quick, this is true. But, the guy he covered, #84 (Stockert?)for Huron, led the team in receiving with 110 yards. So, yah, he had a couple of good plays.

That number of tackles is legit. I ask the guy next to me if it seemed like Weclowski had been in on every tackle and he said yea the kid is everywhere. One of the best games I have ever seen by a LB in high school. That hit he had came out of no where. The SMCC kid came through the line off of the right side with nothing but green grass. Weclowski came from the middle and blind sided him. The kids feet came off the ground.
