    1. 30-0 by the half, and 36-0 a minute into the 3rd, I don’t know what else you expect. There’s zero reason to leave starters in the entire second half and beat a team by 50 or 60 for style points. Airport was down a key lineman and it was a tough night for them on offense. I’m real happy with the play of the D line and linebackers. This team is growing up nicely. The defense seems to have what it lacked last year. Size, strength and a good pass rush.

  1. Airport was never in the game. They sorely miss the offensive starters of last season and they don’t have much team speed. It was 30-0 at halftime and 36-0 about a minute into the third quarter. For two quarters they played the 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s. They’re going to start 0-4 it looks like. FR and CC have too much offense for a team that struggles that much to move the football.

  2. Pretty good performance by SMCC last night. Only thing lacking was the pass defense. Always a step or two late. They seemed to make up for the big plays though. Huron’s QB is legit. It’s too bad the rest of the team can’t control themselves. Don’t talk until you can even up the series, at least.

    1. Milan seems to be down the last couple years. They don’t have a Cole McElvany or William Gaskell type player this year either. Who knows, maybe Hanover Horton is better than everybody thought? They beat Michigan Center 21-20 last night.

      1. A few things I saw in that game. Milan defensive starters standing around watching the game while out there on the field and Jefferson players on defense giving up on plays they could have made. Jefferson actually does have at least two guys who can catch, they just need the rb to do a much better job of actually selling the run when he doesn’t have the ball. He’s quitting the fake by the time he reaches the line of scrimmage and making it too easy for the lb’s. On each team there are players that play very hard, but there is also a decent amount of players playing extremely lazy. The young qb on Jefferson is very talented. For a team like Grosse Ile, if they play a hard game, they’ve got a shot at a win against both those teams. I haven’t seen Grosse Ile, so I’m not sure if they have the effort problem as well. Jefferson is young and they have guys who fear contact and don’t want to make the tackle. Best thing they could do would be to learn to dive for the legs, or just learn to rap and roll.

  3. Ida looked the best I’ve ever seen. Both sides of the ball were playing powerful and to perfection. Astounding defense and a multiple threat offense. On the ground or in the air Ida had their way with the bobcats last night. Truly could be the Blue team of the decade?? Nice job Ida boys

  4. Hines is a stud.. he and Harris compliment each.. not to mention that most underrated player on the blog, Ian Foster.
He’s the best QB in the league. He makes is fast, can throw and makes great decisions. He will never have huge numbers but his presence makes the offense that much better… they are only going to get more dynamic. CC can win the league this year. They are a touch soft on D especially up the gut with quick hitters but they are dynamic on offense and if you try to run laterally to the field .. not happening

    1. So you saying they’re going to outrun Riverview and Riverview won’t be able to run laterally on them? Or you just referring to the other teams in the league? I think Junge from FR is pretty darn good and our guy who has a regional championship under his belt from 22 isn’t too shabby either with running and throwing.

    1. SMCC Alumni of 2013

I hope the players on the SMCC varsity team aren’t reading all these comments and getting an inflated ego but yes I agree, it was a big night at Navarre Field tonight. Honoring Coach Jack Giarmo and the 2014 State Championship team before, plus multiple other teams in attendance tonight as a sign of respect plus all of the other great Hall-of-Famers definently added to the environment. I don’t think anyone expected tonights game to go like it did. Huron has some great athletes, big physical linemen and a talented coaching staff with a few former head coaches.

The difference maker was 3 things:
the Falcons capitalized on Huron’s turnovers.
      Special teams for SMCC
#8 Brady Hines was a force to be reckon with on both sides of the ball tonight.

SMCC has lost to Grosse Ile 2 years in a row which should make for a good storyline this week. Parents sitting next to me said the game will be played at Flat Rock or one of the downriver schools cause Grosse Ile stadium is under construction still?

Great job SMCC! Best of luck to the Huron Cheifs the rest of the season!

        1. Thanks Gary good to know! The folks sitting next to me thought Flat Rock or Trenton. Wyandotte is a newer turf stadium correct?

          1. Wyandotte just got a new turf Field within the last 4 years. And they regularly get a new one around that same time frame

  5. Josh’s Dinosaur and Tacos Shirt

“Huron Dad”, where ya at???? SMCC’s secondary didn’t “struggle”, your O-line didn’t “dominate”, and there’s a reason 2 of the FNV guys picked SMCC to win. Lastly, thanks for the bulletin board material.

Credit to the Huron kids. They played hard, made some nice plays, and have talent. It’s too bad a lack of discipline by a few cost them again (and again and again…)

  6. So to all the people who said Ida’s defense wasn’t anything special, where are we at now after they held a top-10 team that was a state finalist to 6 points?

  7. It going to lie. Smcc looked good, haven’t seen a performance like that since 2019 and 2014. Stay focus keep working and great thing will happen.
