howey beat teen and mays at the dual meets and i also heard at the jefferson invite meet
yes, that was the only time either of them beat howey or pittman, i believe both were hurt, or atleast that it what i heard.
teen won the 100 meter and mays won the 200 didnt they?
Howey beat Teen and mays both at multiple meets. the only one he did not beat more than once was pittmam. Howey lost to him once and pittman lost to howey once
Howey is the fastest guy in the league
whos faster?
He beat Jodeci Mays in track last year multiple times
hey who was last place in the league? oh yea it was huron. I have an idea, lets give defensive player of the year to a player on the worst team in the league!!!!
Howey did beat everyone is track atleast once. So i believe you can make the arguemnt he just may be
SMCC has more than 2400 yards rushing… they average 350-400 that would put them at 3200 or so. nice try.
SMCC-rushing-2,400
-passing-0,100
– total-2,500
HURON-rushing-1,800
-passing-1,000
-total- 2,800
Now do you really beleave hurons deff.was out there more then smss.Huron had a problem putting it in. But there deff. was out there just as much as smcc. For those who say thats why weclowski had so many tackles.Maybe the 10 year vet.is that good stop makeing up junk smcc.
Yes, some of these guys are very one sided but not all of them. I love this blog site. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. "Never again". Oh, and i'm a die hard JETS fan.
howey isnt the fastest player in the league…theres no way he is
you cry babies are rediculous
Yep, I guess if you don't LOVE CC or agree with the BLOGMASTER, then your "not intelligent". Somebody was right when they said this site was one sided. Hammering your visitors is not cool, just because they disagree with you and your one sided picks.
Please read anonymous Oct 30, 4:12 again…great post! I would ask this question based on that post.
What is your answer to the following??….."If weclowski and lovell changed teams would; 1. lovell have 157 tackles for huron? and 2. Would weclowski have 48 tackles for CC?". Mine would be NO-less and NO-more.
If someone is DPOY, the answer should easily be YES/YES! Can anyone on this BLOG honestly say their answer is Yes/Yes?
Agreed, It's just a stat and not victories…but 147 vs 48 and put the shoe on the other foot……NO ONE WOULD TAKE THAT BET and the HL coaches shouldn't have either.
SITOFN…obvioulsy not from Huron or related to anyone on that team.
FIRST AND FOREMOST—Congrats to all the award winners. Great job guys..
The HL needs to review their selection process. Its a travesty that Mays wasn't Offensive Player of the year.
As someone who blocked David Box and Craig Miller last year, I would say making them co-players of the year was well deserved. Both were very good, one-man shows for their respective teams, and dominated up front. I could never distinguish who played better. I mean ya Box was larger and had a D-1 football scholarship, but both played equally hard and equally good. I was never happier to not block anyone again then after those 2 weeks. David Box was unanimous all-state anyways, so it's not like he wasn't properly honored.
You guys are saying that lovell is a big play guy on defense? When huron and cc played weclowski had 28 tackles a pick and a rushing td.and huron lost 20-19 and they should of won. What did lovell do? It is a disgrace that weclowski didnt get it. He should have gotten it hands down. He is a stud, hopefully the all region writers get it right and vote for him. 157 tackles speaks for itself. Do you think that if weclowski and lovell changed teams that 1. lovell would have 157 tackles for huron? and 2. I would bet my like weclowski would have more than 48.
Craig Miller won Co-Defensive Player of the Year last year and his team did not make the playoffs.
That was actually more of a shame that David Box had to share the honors.
Howeys just a tracdk guy? Explain that to me. If say hes one of the fastest if not the fasted in the league but obveiusly he is a fooball guy considering his brother plays division one football and football is a huge sport in the family. How is just a track guy?
Wow if you don't agree with him go start your own blog. Of you hate it so much then don't read it. He does a great job with this blog. Just because you are so biased and didn't get YOUR way doesn't mean you have to come on here and complain. So stop talking. Keep on doing a great job Huron league man! Thank you!
I didn't call anyone stupid, I suggested you weren't intelligent enoungh to understand what I was saying. Let me repost it here and you see if you can figure it out.
I think both picks are solid choices.
I think you could make a case for another guy on offense and two others on defense.
The coaches probably got it right though. Lovell is one heck of a player and so is Howey.
Two of the other guys that I would consider for the award are juniors and have shots next year. Although I feel very strong that one won't win it next year.
I thought that was pretty understandable to comprehend.
howey is the fastest qb in the league and handles the ball best. only one fumble all year and it was on a play that he already gained 50 yards. atta boy howey. his tatoo on his arm is sweet too
So tell us Chris your the intelligent one. who's now calling people stupid that visit his blog. Where have you coached football before and how long. The problem is simple the name of the award is wrong. It go's to the best player on the team that wins the league. Not the best player in the league. And don't tell me tj would even be up for it if he was on one of the lower teams not with 47 tackles. So every year kids are getting screwed and where the only one that dose it like this. You pick tj because smcc was going to win the league and hes there best pannone is a jr.you need to be able to see the differents between a fb player and a track player the kid only past 13 times.
Ok these are two great players. Who always had the huge play for smcc? Howey. Whenever they went to him he would bust a long won for a winning touchdown or something of a sort (Riverview, Huron, Milan) Every time they needed a big play look who they went too.
Whenever the defense was rolling, who would step up and make that big hit on a sack? it was Lovell, he is a big play guy on defense, stop hating on these two, they both deserved it!
Lovell was a force for ONE GAME! Weclowski was a force for EVERY GAME!I'm sorry but they way they went about the voting was ridiculous lol Weclowski proved he wanted to play every game and has twice the stats of lovell on defense. I think it ridiculous how he gets DPOY when he's got a good team and low stats… But Weclowski wasnt on a good team, and still had double his stats. I think thats a laugher right there. Weclowski owns the field all day on Defense and thats it. He has 156 Tackles for ONE SEASON! Lovell has 48! lol im sorry but Weclowski deserves that. Hands down. Coaches need to relook that award Period.
Yea, I'm pretty one sided. Obviously one of your players was slighted but your not intelligent enough to understand why the guys who won awards won them.
Also, could you not understand my last post? I thought I was pretty clear.
One more thing, please list a handle of some sort so we can identify what "you" are actually saying.
Thats it. Change the name of this blog to….I'm in love with SMCC".
Clearly a one sided blog.
Glad to CC's entire O line get recongized in the league voting for the effort they showed this year. This line will be bigger and stronger next year.Keep it rolling in the playoffs. Here's to the unsung heros.
Huronleaguefootball: thanks for answering and i agree with you. keep up the good work on the blog!!!
I think both picks are solid choices.

Huronleaguefootball-
what are your thoughts on the award winners? just curious. if you don't want to say you don't have to. just interested thats all.
How much of a difference could you make an argument for? Just curious.
j.w.
I agree with you huronleagefootball. BUT, I believe that in most years, it is voted the same as the MVP award.
Just for reference:
The award is for the Player of the Year not an MVP award.
I would argue that there is a difference.
To DWILL: I really don't think you can base qb's on just their passing, espically when you have a team like smcc that pretty much never passes. To me i really believe a qb should be based on how well they run the offense. I am a lil surprised that Howey won, but he is having a heck of a season so far. Mays was just has deserving.
Howey is 8/13 (61.5%) for 97 yards accoring to the Monroe Evening News. That tells me he is capable of throwing when called upon.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS TOMORROW NIGHT! MAKES US PROUD!
"HL FAN!!"
Even if a player is a quarterback, they do not have to be able to throw to be the most valuable player in the league.
You're absolutely correct that Howey didn't throw for over 100 all year, instead he used his great ball skills and his own feet to pick up the yards.
To clear things up, I thought the voting went well for the most part and the Players of the Year were well deserved. Also I would like to state that I am not from SMCC nor am I a SMCC fan, but I respect what they do and can recognize a great player even if they are wearing a different colored uniform.
I'm somewhat surprised Cam Church didn't make at least an HM list. His yards per rush was the highest in the News Hearld stats (not sure about HL…probably close to highest). He also helped loosen up the opponents D a bit for Dex Teen as they couldn't just key on him.
Otherwise your picks looked representative of what I saw this year…great job.
A couple of contrarian opinions on OPOY / DPOY:
DPOY was Weclowski, I understand the discount based on points given up and team record but don't agree that it made HIS performance any less stellar. The ONLY defender I witnessed all year that had "PRESENCE" like no other…and that presence was FELT by all players (broken hand to boot)…just ask em.
OPOY was a toss-up….but a vote for Cameron at WR could be defended based on his utterly ridicuous numbers….numbers aside, he was still the best WR in the league, BY FAR!! No other person or position was as "HANDS DOWN" better than everyone else on the field than Mr. Cameron was.
For sure Several great RB's, LB's, OLine, DLine, QB's and DB's and a good debate for sure on who's best…BUT at WR, there was ONLY 1 BEST which is awfully difficult to say and achieve…hence OPOY.
SITOFN
yep give it to a SMCC kid for POY. yeah howey is good at running and kick returns but he didnt break 100yrds passing for the whole season! the rushing was a good stat but if your a QB you have to be a cabable thrower too. its rigged!
The Heisman Trophy, NFL MVP, POY in most sports mainly go to players on winning teams…if you apply that to HS football that would only leave us SMCC, Airport, Milan and GI in the HL. OPOY would then be between Howey, Labeau, Mays, Labelle and Cameron IMO. Mays, at first look, has the better numbers but if you take into account alot of Howey's runs were on 3rd and long that went for first downs(as Im sure many of Mays were) and alot of them went for TD's. If you also add in Howey's 5-6 special teams TD's I can see how it went to Howey. You also have to take into account that when these two players met Howey's team came out on top even as the underdog as they clearly were on that friday night. If you recall Howey's 70 yard KO return just before half may just have been the biggest play in the game. I think all those things went into account… I am sure it was very very close on the offensive side of the ball and Mays got many a vote.
Lovell was to me clearly the best defensive player, if you watch CC's games he is in on all the plays and is a force. As far as Weclowski(sp) goes, you cant be DPOY when your team gives up 30pts a game and has a record of 3-6.
j.w., by your comment i don't know if you think lovell is a junior, but he is not. he is a senior. i just wanted to clear that up in case you that he was a junior.
as for the winners. congrates!! did you ever take into consideration that huron's defense was probably on the field more than cc's defense so weclowski had more opporunities to get more tackles? It's just thought. I wouldn't argue if weclowski had won.
This is my opinion but, i don't think QB's should have to have a certain amount of pass attempts. if your offense doesn't pass like smcc's offense then you won't get the pass attempts you need. QB is not just about passing. It is about how well you run your offense/system.
again, i wouldn't argue at all if mays or weclowski would have won.
Well, I mean I understand rewarding winners, but it's pretty hard not to say Jodeci Mays shouldn't have won. I think he may have been shot down because he is a junior and they try to make those awards go to seniors. However that is a biased that needs to be removed. Also, I think even though he was on a lousy team, Weclowski should've been defensive player of the year. Nobody had a year like that, that kid was a straight up dude this year. However, I also understand winning is the fabric which is most essential to the game of football, and you can't argue with 8-1(7-0 league). Therefore I can only say congrats on the awards to all players. Coach of the year was spot on, you couldn't argue for anyone else over Giarmo. He has made that program pretty damn good, and as much as I hate SMCC, I can do nothing but salute them. They play hard and execute their system.
ya main force. tj has like 40 tackles. stats or not if ur a player of the year you should at least have 70+.
the whole league was screwed up.
welclowski should of gotten defense.
and howy is a good choice buy mays was provennn and should have gotten offense.
i know you cant go solemly off stats but jeeze they play some part i mean gosh a line backer should have more then 40 tackles. and a quaterback should have more then 13 passing attemps.
he should have been listen as a rb then and givin another quaterback lke jones or maynard the chance to gain 1st team.
this is horrible im sorry. but never the less. CONGRADULATIONS BOYS.
I too am somehwhat suprised, i thought howey and lovell would be 1st team but not POY's, I thought mays was going to get it but i was wrong. Howver, Howey does lead the region and league with over a 10 yard per carry average. They throw minimal but he completes them. , but howey is a great player and is still deserving. Not to mention he led his team to 7-0 in league
Lovell is a great player and plays offense too. He hits extremely hard and he is one of the main leaders on the team as well. Congratulations to all who recieved all league!
This goes way back to my comment on the definition of value. The player of the year voting goes to alot more than just stats, and the voting proved this point once again.
Weclowski is a very good player and I wouldn't have argued against him winning it, but T.J. Lovell was a force on defense especially against Airport.
Offensively speaking, we all thought that Mays would win it but let's think about it. Howey quarterbacked the best offense in the league. There is no arguing that he didn't have the most rushing yards in the league or even on his own team, but his ability to hide the ball is what made the offense go. His big plays also went a long way to lockiing down those honors.
It is not a surprise that people are upset, but all-in-all the voting seems pretty fair and deserved.
The best player puts up the numbers, Howey is a RB that can hand off the ball. He did NOT have the best RB stats.
How do you explain Lovell being defensive player of the year then?
j.w.
I think maybe what the coaches were doing with Howey as POY was they took into consideration his return ability. He was a threat to score every time he touched the ball.
Another thought; Mays and Pannone are both juniors and will have a chance to win POY next year.
Wow. SMCC wins the League and BOTH players of the year? 13 pass attempts and not even the most rushing yards on his OWN team for player of the year? AND T.J. not even having HALF the tackles of a player on his team getting player of the year? That is absolute crap.
Mays was a LOCK for offensive, and Defensive was between Weclowski Riopelle and Pannone HANDS DOWN.
Now watch who makes all region and we can all get a laugh at ANOTHER botched Huron League voting scheme by sour coachs not voting for the BEST player.
j.w.
I have never been to a football all league meeting but it probably goes like this. Each coach nominates all league candidates. First place usually gets more nominations than last but I'm not sure how many. Each coach gets to talk about his players and share stats. The coaches then vote based on the info provided and the teams are based on the voting. I don't believe you can vote for your own kids.
Player of the Year candidates are nominated. The coaches can then talk about each player. The caoches vote and the player who has the most votes wins. They may widdle it down to two players.
how does the meeting go. the voting and such?
I don't have the votes and if I did I wouldn't publish them.
Did they do Huron League Coach of the year yet? just wondering
Do you have a list of votes for each person/position? Ifso could you show these?
Good to see that Dex Teen was a unanimous pick for first team. He was an awesome player to watch and he earned it.
I'm a little surprised but congrats to Howey for Offensive Player of the Year.
if connor wouldnt get it then the kid from huron wouldnt get Defense either then cause they were horrible too
connor? never they were 3-6 and he was good but not that good
HLF. do like what has been picked is it corret and fair or do you thinks its been a political all league team? sofar what you know
no mays. please say sarcasmm
i predict Joe Conner from Flat Rock, offensive player of the year, judging by your comment.
I would say by 10:30 tonight.
By in a little while do you mean tonight? With you saying we will be blown away I can assume Mays didn't win it, which is a shame.
j.w.
soon????????????????????????????????????????????
Ok, thanks Huronleaguefootball!
I should have everything in a little while. I have most of the offense and am waiting on the defense.
This will be the coach's picks. I'm sure mine will be somewhat different.
Do you know when you will get them? And if i understood what you said, what you are going to list is going to be the real 1st and 2nd team all HL teams and not your choices right? They will be what the coaches picked?
