Gary what are your thoughts on SMCC switching to a different offense? I heard they were adding some spread plays to mix it up but now I heard they totally abandoned the T.
100% not totally abandoning the T.
I think they are adding running the T out of the gun formation.
Still plenty of backs in the backfield.
I like it. They have many plus athletes and figure this will help get them in space.
You’re talking, Hines, Harris, Foster, Linzell, Stark and others.
They’re smart to keep the T. They don’t have the height, the speed, the line, or the extremely accurate qb to execute the spread and be successful with it. I’m not saying they’re slow, but I didn’t see any top end burners last year and when I say top end I’m saying sub 4.5. I prefer the I as an alternative to running the T out of shotgun. That snap can screw things up in a hurry. The I is a nice mix of passing and power running and teams don’t see it that much anymore. The spread is nothing but a $hit show without the proper guys. I’ve seen it first hand. I don’t know why so many teams run it in high school.
It may be the “T” out of the gun.
I know many in Falcon land that will fall over, the first time they see Foster line up in the gun.
But it’s happening.
I’ve been mulling this over.. and I dont want to come across as a CC slappy. Although I may be.
SMCC has a lot of speed… in a lot of places. The QB was not asked to throw a ton last year.. but when he did, he was pretty darn good.
If he is asked to throw more this season, I have a ton of confidence that he will be a top of the league type QB.
I know your comment was more about keeping the T, but your reasons why werent exactly accurate.
You need more than just speed, you need height and you need hands. Also, passing out of the T can make a qb look good when he does because usually the defense is out of place. If the qb hasn’t been a passing qb, I wouldn’t expect it to be amazing running a passing offense that’s being defended correctly. I wouldn’t change a thing if I were them. They beat teams last year due to ball control and long possessions. With the pass comes a risk, especially if you don’t have the tall guys you need to battle for it. It’s a good way to fall behind quick.

In regards to the T and passing, one can also say there is more pressure on the QB. The T QB doesn’t pass much, thus each pass has more weight.
Nobody said the “new” offense is going to be a passing offense. And if it is, the QB has a ton of ability, or they would not have went to this type of offense.

A good indicator of speed at the skill positions and how it compares to other teams is big plays running the football. When you have a burner, they will have numerous long td runs over the season, often a few each game.
