Over the recent years in High School football many schools have gotten away from the traditional running formations in favor of the spread offense. Many teams choose to run when in the spread but most prefer to fling the ball around.
While at lunch yesterday I had a chance to watch some of the Division VI State Championship replay between SMCC and Montague.
It was really amazing to see the two different styles in action on the same field. There were two very good teams running completely opposite schemes. Obviously Montague won the game but I believe they were probably just a little more talented than SMCC and probably had nothing to do with offensive scheme.
So, if you had a choice what offense would you prefer? What would you rather watch? Which would you rather participate in as a player? Let me know your thoughts.
To the guy who said, we are not in Detroit, we live in a safe community, try to have your team play a Detroit team and we'll find out how elite you are. you ignorant priss
To the poster that used Milan and Huron next to each other. Never again, have fun loosing to FR this year again Huron.
How in the hell does Grosse Ile have foreclosure problems? There all rich as hell!
1/16 10:13…. you need to go to M-live, Ignorace is bliss!
Have you checked the foreclosre list on GI lately!
How does GI have funding issues their all rich as hell.
You want your Saturdays off? How many times do you play airport in one season? Just wondering…why should it come to 7 coaches and 400+ player when you are going to have 1 single Saturday game all year? Just be happy your not from airport and have all your home games on Saturday so please quit your whining
Come up with 150000 or play all away games? Are you all crazy? Do you think the airport player want to play on Saturday? Do they all have an extra 50 grand to donate? Why make them suffer and never have home field advantage over something they have no control over…yes playing on saturday is going to suck but unless you have a spare 150000 your just going to have to deal with it
Unless you are Donating the money GI is NOT building a new football stadium. I know that the little league is looking a putting in a new practice field down by the GI airport but nothing new for the schools. We are having the same funding issues as everyone else and that isn't even on the radar.
I've heard rumors of GI building a new football stadium? Can someone clarify this as true or false?
"To the blogger who said the coaches should appreciate the extra day of practice, I would assume that the team would take the monday of that week off. It's not fair to put the players through an extra day of practice as well as take one of their two days out of pads away. I understand that given the economic situation of our country, high school football lights take a back seat to other needs but does that mean that the kids should be punished with less rest?"
I made the comment and I myself am a player in this league. The extra day would be a great day off [monday; were tired, not focused and such] but it would also help us to get ready for the next weeks game which will be on that friday night. I made the comment only thinking of how it can help the team on the field; not how it can help off it.

I agree; i don't see where the final decision came in at for saturday games… I say they put it to a vote amongst the other 7 coaches and 400+ players to see what they want.. not what one school wants. The kids want their saturdays off to hang out with friends and relax with family and rest for another week battle… not one day of rest and practice again…it needs to come down to a vote. This shouldn't be a set decision. someone needs to say something.
I would agree if they cannot provide lights for Friday night home games they should play all their games AWAY.
Friday Night Lights!.
If you cant supply them, then your whole schedule is AWAY.
we are not in detroit, we have a safe community. This is unfortunate for airport but this league should vote on things with the coaches, and it will be a 7 to 1 vote.
either all away games or get 150,000 dollars quick
It looks like Airport did indeed have to take down the lights for saftey reasons and it looks like they are looking for Saturday games. Do you think the other schools and AD's will go for saturday games? The article is in the Monroe Evening News.
Looks like the teams that will play Airport at their field will have a good advantage; practices are usually mon-thursday with games on friday nights. Now the teams who play airport at their stadium will have an extra practice day to run through plays and get their execution done and can possibly run an early quick practice that saturday to get plays run through again.. Airport not having lights breaks traditional friday night lights games, but gives teams more practice time.

Rumors Rumors Rumors! Get your facts straight. The deal with Redmond is NOT done yet. There is a chance, but it is not FACT. Mayes is NOT transfering to Monroe. I talked to him personally. It is FALSE. IF Redmond does decide to leave, Mayes will play at Airport, under the LIGHTS!

why should game times be switched for one school? who is airport's AD to say when and where games will be played? games have always been played under the friday night lights… why play saturdays cus airport decided to take the lights down….if they dont wanna put new ones up; then get rid of the field and airport plays all away games. period.

What player will be the "face" of the league next season?
January 11, 2010 6:24 PM
face of the league IMO is going to be between Mays of Airport if he stays or Pannone of SMCC.
i would throw Bosman of riverview in the mix my decision is based off more skill position like rb db mlb,
if we were talking lineman. Bosman all the wayyyy!!!
Grosse Ile placed the only representative on 1st or 2nd team all-state, all-acedemic individual honors.
CONGRATS Cam Church!!
GI should have been an all state school too….not sure why unless they didn't apply for it.
Big Kudos to Milan and NB Huron for team honors and their honorable mention individual candidates!!
The classroom is the reason for season and the HL delivers there too.
Milan and Huron were both all state academic teams. They both also had individuals on the team. MHSFCA.com
Also, if 'In the Loop' is so in the loop, why did Airport's AD tell the other teams in the league that they will be playing on Saturday afternoons at Airport next fall? Are you more in the loop than the AD?
Chris, lets see our HL representatives for All State all acedemic!!!
I hope you are right and nobody transfers to Monroe from Airport. Airport being good at footall makes the HL a better league. From what I hear however from a very good source is that Redmond will be coaching at Monroe next year…. no it is not official yet but soon will be. If so, who will replace Redmond? Will they look outside the program or hire someone like Mossburg? This next hire for the Jets will be a huge one… will they stay competative after Redmond or fall back to where they were before he got there. Make the right hire JETS!!!
Detroit Catholic Central, Monroe St. Mary, Hudson, Traverse City St.Francis and Beal City all run the T. They also all happened to be playing at Ford Field last Thanksgiving weekend.
If Redmond didnt want to leave Airport then he wouldnt be interviewing for the Monroe job this week. My guess is Monroe hires Redmond and Airport falls to where they were before he got there…. the bottom.

I certainly hope that this is YOUR opinion and not that of the athletes from the Airport District. If that is the case I really feel as if they are a bunch of sore losers over there – ready to bail because they might have an "off" season – that teaches our young athletes absolutely no drive and lack of hard work and discipline. Trust me – I'd much rather have my athlete play on a team that maybe doesn't win so much but teaches him discipline, respect, honor and that sometimes you have to play thru the tough times. Airport has had a great run the last few seasons – by losing a coach or a couple players should not make the program crumble. WOW – shocking!!!
Oh please airport is to poor to recruit even if we could the only reason some players are transfering next year (if the rumors are true) is because they know airport is going to be very bad next year. Would you want to be one of the only good kids on your bad team? I sure wouldn't I don't know about you…and how many of you would think it would completly suck not being able to play on Friday nights now? (airports case: no lights) well these are just a couple reasons hope I cleared some things up
What player will be the "face" of the league next season?
chris are you ever gonna post the awards
Horrible news for the HL. Redmond leaves Airport for Monroe High and if thats not bad enough a few players will all of a sudden transfer to Monroe… one of those being Mayes. Makes you wonder if Redmond was recruiting all along at Airport if players follow him when he leaves?

They may laugh their way to ford field but because of fans like you I laugh when they come back empty handed
January 10, 2010 10:48 PM
I think you may defend your team as well when people say they have no talent or no skill as did the 3:22 poster. I hope you can see how silly that is as I explained their offense was a major reason they went to the title game. To just experience a state title game, win or lose, is one for the players and fans that can never be replaced. It is truly a fun time. As I said before and I say again… no skill no talent = HL crown and state runner up. The fact that you laugh as 16-17 yr old kids lose a football games says more about you than it does about me.
They may laugh their way to ford field but because of fans like you I laugh when they come back empty handed
There is no more righteous football formation than the next. The formation does not teach discipline to kids, the coaches do. That point, I hope, falls on deaf ears. In my humble opinion, the spread offense that mixes a read option with passing to boot is the most fun to watch, but not necessarily the most effective.
The Fullhouse T and all it's variety's requires a great amount of discipline which in itself is a talent. Teaching young men discipline to me is what football is all about. I think the staff, players, parents and fans of SMCC will take thier "no talent offense" and laugh all the way to Ford Field. Which they have done twice in the last 5 years if I'm not mistaken.
Show me an offenss that has no fakes and I will show you a bad offense.
Every spread team runs the read option with the RB and QB…. which is a very good fake by the way. Saying the T isnt a good offense because the players fake well is just absurd thinking…. you lost some credibility there
Yes it may be run down the middle but half the defense is chasing the fake on the outside? Sorrry I'm going to have to agree with this one…
SMCC was dominating the league well before Giarmo and the T got there, lest we forget. The T is ALL about pounding the ball down your throat. Just because you carry out fakes doesnt mean the ball isnt run up the middle 75% of the time.
i know i will have a lot of haters but id just like to say it doesnt take much talent to run CC's offence. When it all comes down to trickery and hiding the ball it just doesnt seem like football to me. yes it works and yes they do it well but isnt football supposed to be a game of contact and pounding it down eachothers throats? To me i believe flatrock could run their offence and make the playoffs. it just doesnt taje any skill whats so ever. im sorry these are just my thoughts and you all can build off them. and im by no means bashing cc they were a quality team this year.
I am probably in the minority but to me the spread is soooo boring to watch. So many teams run it poorly and without the poper talent. The T wether it be the Fullhouse variety, wing, double wing or even the wildcat to me are such a joy to watch when ran correctly. The focus is all on the team, no one man show.
The greatest performances whether it be points scored or yardage gained in a single season are allmost all owned by double wing or T teams. That is a nation wide stat.
If you watched the state title games, half the games had a FH T team playing..D1, D6, D7 and D8. D2 had the veer(all run).
Why more teams dont run the T in the HL I have no idea….
I think the Triple/Veer Option will be making a comeback, out of double tight/pro formation…tough to defend, and it is tough to discipline high school defenders while playing assignment football..
