Fan Poll

I have put up a poll so we can all vote on the greatest sports movie of all time. We have some excellent movies to choose from. I’m sure I left some great movies off but it is tough to argue with these nominations.

All these movies have some major qualities that make them great movies. In an effort to not tip the scale any one way, I will refrain from commenting on any of the nominees.

Adam Barber, new head coach at Airport, has been the freshman coach for a few years now and has been on the staff for some time now. Great guy, good coach, outstanding teacher and a good hire, learned alot from Redmond. I just hope Airport doesnt look at this is as a 1 year thing and then see who is out there next year. He deserves a chance for a long time.

  3. How can a blog dedicated to the Huron League not have a thing about Airport's new hire…One of the "big four" gets a new coach and nothing but crickets out there!Common Chris how bout some thoughts or some history on the new coach.

  4. I am not trying to single tyler out at all, i just only came across his highlight film, i couldnt find anyone elses in the leagues, who was a defensive standout.

    does anyone else have one

    chickeral
    bosman
    pannone
    the aitport kid?

if so let em know i love putting my thouhts to help.

  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?

was bored and tought to check out the DPOY highlight film

he has sum great hits and multiple tackles.

but i hate to be a debbie downer.
any football critic would see his posture and form is not the best.
his pursuit angles from linebacker position are east west. he has great reeds but he is not a down hill linebacker. he rounds too much and runs too high to make his takle. he dosent usually rap up which will hurt him at the next level. he has great speed and explasiveness which makes up for these flaws.
    just my $.02.
    does anyone aggree orr dissagree.

    we need some football talk.

tyler was a great high school linebacker i am not taking that away from him and nobody is perfect. i just came across it and wanted to get sum talking going.

was he the best, who competed with him, is there a better player than him, stat wise or mechanically.
    ?

football in just 4 short months away until summer workouts.

  6. SMCC would dominate the lower divisions football wise. Cant really see them playing the likes of DCC or BR. but they do already play schools double their enrollement, so why not play schools with 1600 more students.

  7. SMCC cant play in the Catholic league. It would have to travel to mad heights, pontiac, allen park and so on. Too much in travel costs when you consider you would have to go to those places for all the sports both boys and girls.

  8. Football teams don't win because they "recruit" better, they win because they put in more work in the offseason, preseason, and during season. So I don't care if it's SMCC or Detroit CC, if you want to be better than a team put in the time in the offseason to do so. SMCC is the way they are because of the time they put in the offseason and the coaching staff gets them prepared to play. And Airport has made the playoffs 11 times in a row now because they put a good amount of off season work in as well. Huron is awful at football because none of their players take the initiative to make themselves better. So that is why the league is they way it is. Keep SMCC in the league, and I pray other schools will rise up and beat them (esp. Airport). But don't hate them because they have "unfair advantages" because that is a waste of time.

  9. Athletes and non-athletes get assistance at smcc. Whether you play a sport or not as nothing to do with if you get help or not.

  10. haha ok, they don't give out "academic scholarships, just "Scholarships"?? That's a HECK OF AN ADVANTAGE..small enrollment or not..cream of the crop kids..and you KNOW some of those donors are WEALTHY former athletes!

  11. Whoever said they give out academic scholarships that's false. They give out scholarships to kids who may demonstrate certain qualities or leadership skills. It all depends on the donor of the scholarship.

  12. recuit or no, they win. so stop bashing the kids, they are some of the most hardworking and disicplined athletes in the state of michigan

  13. private schools have to recruit to survive. Of course they offer some assistance to those that have a hard time paying for tuition (I've heard CC is almost $7000 now). I went to a public school and my kids most likely will also, but I have a hard time "hating" CC because they try to attract as many kids as possible. It's the only way for them to stay open. Plus it offers the Huron League some "unique-ness" in that not many leagues (around Monroe County at least) have a private school that generates a great rivalry amongst a variety of schools.

  14. There is no way that the league would let Airport or Milan go.

There has been talk over the years to let SMCC take a walk to somewhere else due to what other schools think is a distinct advantage as a private school compared to a public school.

    Here are some of the arguments both ways;

SMCC has an advantage being a private school. You only get the cream of the crop kids. Kids who have developed work ethics from home. Competition creates better students and athletes. Every SMCC kid has to compete against another who wants their spot.

SMCC gets kids from all over Monroe and Wayne County. They have 8 or 9 feeder schools to choose athletes from. This gives them a distinct advantage when picking teams and starters.

SMCC can impose very strict rules and discipline on their athletes and students. If you don't like it, leave. (public schools can't do that) We all know successful sports programs require discipline.

SMCC is the smallest school in the league by far. They have a smaller school population pool to choose from when putting their teams together.

Open enrollment has evened the playing field for public schools by allowing kids to attend other schools without regards for district boundaries.

SMCC has less money to work with than public schools. SMCC must rely on tuition to run their school. The money is substantially less than what most public schools receive per student.

SMCC's facilities aren't as good as the public schools. For years SMCC has had to practice and play sports without the proper facilities. Football and track are to that come to mind right away.

Those are just a few of the arguments that I hear regarding whether SMCC should stay or go.

I think SMCC will continue to be a part of the league for a long time. I do think that as soon as the current SMCC AD retires that there will be a push to remove them from the league. Support to keep SMCC in the league is less due to the change in league AD's over the years. I think the league will eventually vote to remove them from the league and a court injunction will stop it from happening.

That is a long winded answer. Those beliefs on advantges and disadvantages of being a private school in a public school league are ones that I continually here.

I think SMCC will be a member of the league for a long time.

  15. Even though you asked chris im going to answer your question. I personally dont think so because I dont think CC or Airport or Milan or anybody in the league for that matter could do what TCSF did.Plus I highly doubt the huron league would boot its top teams.

  16. chris i was looking at mlive and i saw that tc st francis will be voted out of thier league because of thier dominace, just for footbal
do u think this will ever happen in the future for smcc maybe if they continue or say airport or milan?

  17. SERIOUSLY? I love SlapShot, BUT WHY IS IT ON THIS LIST? If you were looking for the greatest sports comedy I would totally vote for it.

How come during basketball season you never hear anyone wanting Huron to leave the league?

  18. i've heard the same thing. Adam Baber, Airports freshman head coach for a while now. good coach, good guy, good teacher, will probablly keep all old coaches. hope he does well, wish him well, a little un-experienced.
