New Poll

The pre-season poll for Defensive Player of the Year is posted. There are a host of qualified candidates but much will depend on how their team fares in league play.

Riverview’s Brad Bosman was a unanimous All-Huron League pick at defensive tackle for the Pirates last season. Bosman recorded 93 tackles while forcing two fumbles. He undoubtedly will be the key to the Pirates success on the defensive side of the ball this year.

Anthony Kitts from Airport was a 1st Team All-Huron League player at defensive tackle last season for the Jets. Kitts will once again anchor the defensive line. The Jet offense will be able to score points and will rely on the Kitts led defense to make a run at the league title.

Milan’s DeAndre Mitchell was the 2nd leading tackler for the playoff qualifying Big Reds last season. Mitchell was an honorable mention All-League choice for Milan last year at defensive end and will be the defensive stopper for the Big Reds with the departure of Ryan Hasten.

SMCC’s Micheal Pannone was a unanimous All-Huron League selection as a defensive back last season while leading the Falcons to the league championship. Pannone was also the Huron League Blog’s pick as Defensive Player of the Year last season. Pannone led the Falcons in tackles last season and should do the same again this season.

Jefferson’s Jake Sterling is one of the best athletes in the Huron League and will excel on both sides of the ball for the Bears. Sterling was a 2nd Team All-League choice as a defensive back last season. He was the 2nd leading tackler for the Bears last season.

  1. FYI….Looks like Airport is going to get permenant lights after all. Carleton Rotary is helping them out. The stabs about playing on Saturdays, are most likely coming from people who doesn't even have there OWN playing field. Bahahaha!

  2. Tough to tell because some kids play both ways. We never saw a complete offense vs. a complete defense. They have good size and I thought my track kids looked fast out there.

  3. see now you look like an idiot airport splits up and scrimmages each other it happens every year…nice try though

  4. Uhh actually Airport has had their Blue/Gold scrimmage on a Saturday for a lot of years now. But you being the veteran Blogger/Fan of the Huron League surely you knew that right?

  5. idk how he can fair against people double his size. but Colin Knoch? dk how to spell it, is a tough kid. I don't think anyone tackled him and he didn't miss one tackle at the 12 am practice

  6. I was there last night. I enjoy watching Coach P run a practice although he looks like he is hurting a bit these days.

The Rams look like they can hit pretty well. They were enthusiastic and there was a decent size crowd.

  7. i went to hurons practice today and boy do they have sum hitters who is there middle line backer he was looking good?
