  1. Regarding Flat Rock. You can't blame one guy for a generation of bad football. The lack of a solid independent program is a big reason. Also, there are not that many quality athletes. The basketball team won't very good as well. I think there will be some better athletes in the future, but I hope for the football team's sake that too many of them are locked into soccer. Lastly, a youth program does not guarantee success later on unless it is done the right way, and the high school coaches have meaningful input. Another thing that kills youth programs is when either the youth coaches only care about winning, at the expense of teaching fundamentals or they are too worried about putting together their own little powerhouse team instead of focusing on teaching as many of the local players in their community as possible.

  2. Don't you think the fact that Flat Rock only has 20-25 players come out every year has something to do with their lack of success?

You have to win to get numbers and numbers to get wins.

I don't know what it's going to take to get Flat Rock to the next level, but don't expect it to happen within the next few years.

  3. Brodie stood on the sideline of the Erie game and didn't even cheer for the team. He cares? The entire coaching staff did the best that they could with what they had on the team. The people that are complaining think that their kids are superstars or that they were superstars when they were in high school.

  4. Not apathy by administration, just a dry spell for FR. A lot of pride in FR and there is good things coming in the future. It may take some years, but good things are going on. NO way you can tell me that Brodie doesn't care about athletics….no way.

  5. A couple of things. I you honestly expected FR to win three games then you have no clue.

The kids at FR have been quiting for years because they get no quality coaching at the lower levels and get sick and tired of getting beat.

Coach P's 5-4 record was better than anyone else the last 17 years.

Apathy from the administration killed a solid sports program at FR and it will take years to fix.

  6. Sorry Chris, I've been biting my tongue about Flat Rock all season long and I just couldn't hold it in any longer.

The kids did a hell of a job all season. It's just time to get them to the next level.

  7. "oh by the way coach p's " 3 play offense " marched down the field from there own 20 yard line to the 13 yard line of Erie in about a minute and 15 seconds"

Yeah, coach P FINALLY decided to include more plays. On the last drive. Of the last game. Against another 0-8 team. Yep, there's a reason for him to stay.

I realize that FR went 0-9 but did you honestly expect more then 1-8? Honestly?

Honestly…I expected three, and I would have accepted one.

  9. "Well when coach p. has the returning players and the right team"…

And you aren't asking why the kids aren't returning???? And the right team? I'm sure every coach would like to have the right team.

  10. Chris,

A 5-4 record isn't really something to hang your hat on, especially when it was 3 years ago and you just became the first FR team to go 0-9.

Yeah they are a young team, but why? Why does coach P lose half his seniors every year? Will these kids get better? Yes, IF they come back. People never seem to mention that this team also has a decent, if small, group of Juniors and most of them will have a year of starting experience next year also. Not to mention that the current 10th and 11th grade kids seem to mesh really well together.

  11. BN knows nothing about nothing. But he does make so called scouting trips. What team is he scouting for? Anybody know? Is he on somebodys staff, or just a wanna-be?

  12. BN…you should have done some "recruiting" for Milan and FR. Maybe your skills could have turned things around. Bahaha

  13. Just for the record, if Airport doesn't get in at 5-4, the only team that "cost" them a playoff bid was Airport.

Also, congradulations to New Boston, happy to see them get their first bid, but I think its a stretch to say that a 6-3 team has a "very good" chance to win a game.

Milan seems to have checked out this year. Hopefully they can get it together and represent the league well next week in the playoffs.

  14. wyandotte southgate are D2, allen park is borderline D2,D3. Get the facts straight. Huron is most likely a d4 team.

  15. Cong to Jodeci Mays for beating the School Record for the most rushing yardaged. I know this season was a battle for u, but a least u can walk away with that under ur belt.

  16. Ill give you the last drive on erie.

    Kickoff- Zurawski to the 21
1st and 10- Blosser right side for 16 yards
1st and 10- Chickeral to Montiy for 20 yards
1st and 10- Blosser right side for 7 yards
2nd and 3- Chickeral incomplete to Montiy
3rd and 3- Chickeral complete to Blosser for 13 yards
1st and 10- Chickeral incomplete to Blosser
2nd and 10- Blosser right side for 8 yards. (Fumbles out of bounds) with 11 seconds left.

To me, honestly it looked like he was trying to throw it out of bounds to stop the clock. FR had 5 seconds and he was still in bounds.
He tried to keep them alive, and it didn't work. He was highly upset.
    Tough loss for the rams.

  17. Flat Rock got screwed out of the Erie game with 14 seconds left the ref blows the whistle. then mike blosser " fumbles " the football and goes out of bounds. Then Erie recovers it OUT OF BOUNDS but yet it was Erie ball…. oh by the way coach p's " 3 play offense " marched down the field from there own 20 yard line to the 13 yard line of Erie in about a minute and 15 seconds. flat rock was robbed flat out.

Westside Christian not being eligible screwed up my whole thought process!!! Only 236 qualifiers…which means that if Rice, Pershing, and Menominee all win Airport is now also in and would be in D3

  19. Wow this is super close! It really does look like the week 9 losses of Milan and FR cost Airport a playoff spot.

They are currently less then 1.5 playoff points behind the final 5-4 Class B team to get in. Ouch!

All is not over til its over… we will find out for sure at about 9 tonight or so. Stay tuned!

  20. That is if they can avoid being in the same district as Crockett and or Country Day. I like their chances vs Melvindale, Divine Child or the other Detroit schools. Cross your fingers Chief fans!

  21. eeerrrrrrrr Wyandotte and Southgate will NOT be in the same division as Huron.

Huron will have a very good chance to win a game or two in D4.

    -BN

  22. Huron is teetering on the cusp of D III and D IV. That will obviously shake out today. Looks like their ninety-two right now. Ninety-seven or higher moves them into D IV.

  23. Congrats HURON!!! Get ready for the
ride of your life.Allen Park,Wyandotte,Southgate I'm sure will be in your bracket. This is where the men meet the boys. Are you ready? I sure hope so. GOOD LUCK.

  24. Coach P – 3-6, 5-4, 4-5, 3-6, 3-6, 0-9

Not exactly the best record. This isnt Flint where you have the athletes he used to have. I am going to say its time for a change. Especially his assistnats Stapleton and Lawson. Really? Get a clue

  25. AIRPORT IS ON THE BUBBLE BIGTIME! They might be the last class B team to get in.

Would be nice to have 4 Huron league teams in the playoffs.

    -BN

  26. Well when coach p. has the returning players and the right team, which chris stated in 2007 their first winning season in many years, also barely beat out for playoffs after a heartbreaking last minute pass by airport to win 28-21 over the rams. That year i think they beat riverview for the first time in 20 some years? all in all any other coach wouldnt have done much with that team

  27. What I know about Coach P is that he led Flat Rock to their first winning season in 17 years back in 2007.

The Rams are extremely young and obviously can only get better.

If you ask me the only unexpected loss this season was EM and it looks like the Eagles made a nice comeback.

Maybe Coach P needs to think about retiring but don't tell me he isn't a good coach.

  28. Don't know why Cusimano from SMCC isn't mentioned for offensive player of the year, he's an ideal football player, can pass and run the ball, and is a smart player. He's a leader on the field and the team is better for having him. His name should be in there, definetly.

  29. So Chris, do you still believe that coach P was a real find for your alma mater?

And you thought I wasn't serious when you deleted my comment about his 3 play offense failing the team again.

I guess 1 hour of practice and 1 1/2 hours of film just doesn't work…

  30. Huron was partying hard at Taco Bell. I think the whole school was there. The people at Taco Bell were flustered with all the business and as a result I got a half assed XXL chalupa. Thanks alot Huron!
