Over the next two weeks, we will be focusing on the reasons for hope and concern in 2023 for each of the 16 teams that we cover here at Friday Night Victors. Because we start alphabetically, we will lead off with the Airport Jets.
Biggest Reason for Hope: Airport’s class of 2024 is arguably one of the best all-around sports classes that has come through the school over the last 10-15 years. QB/LB Cooper Nye along with RB/DB Jack Mills, TE/LB Nolan Zajac and WR/DB Colin Nowak give the Jets great athleticism, experience and leadership. Any of these guys could compete for overall FNV Player of the Year honors.
Biggest Reason for Concern: The Jets must get better on defense. While they finished 7-3 last season, giving up over 28 ppg is rarely a recipe for major success in high school football. There simply needs to be more (at least 1) single digit or goose egg games from the Jet defense. As the saying goes in football; offense fills the seats, defense wins championships.

Couldn’t have said it better myself Chris. The senior class is loaded with experience and talent and the offense should be explosive, but this team will go as far as the defense takes them. The two best performances last year by the defense IMO was against SMCC and a losing effort to Riverview. But they had to win shootouts against Ida and Grossed Ile and struggled against Huron and Tecumseh. Hopefully with all the experience and being in the 2nd year of the DC’s system things will turn around this year.
