Riv will compete if they can stay healthy. Not deep. Yes, have to replace some great linemen & play in a good league.
I really wish players would stay off of these things. Seriously nobody knows half of the players you are talking about so obviously they havent been worth mentioning. Only 2 people you mentioned started on the team last year and the others barely seen any time during the season. Riverview needs to replace a very talented season class after losing a D1 Offensive Linemen in Beamish, 1st Team All-State Defensive Tackle and 2way player in Bosman, Hardnosed 2 way player in Carnarvon, and Sadd. Riverview had a questionable season last year after losing Gibbons. Replacing all of these players wont be easy but we'll see what Stergalas can do. Hopefully this will be the year.
I honestly cannot believe that anyone with some sense would say the players matter more than the coach in High School football.
Explain what Redmond did? He brought Jet football out from under a rock! Did the talent level all of a sudden rise in Carelton? most doubtful. He did what 90% of all great coaches do.. he got the community involved… he got participation up.. he got people excited about Airport football.
Just look on this site.. its SMCC and Airport who do most of the posting. Why? Because they currently have the best programs.
Do you think its coincidence that these schools also had(Red) and have(Giarmo) the best coaches in the league? When Giarmo took over at SMCC for Coach Sandersen, the program took a BIG dip record wise. WHy is that? Did they all of a sudden have a huge drop in talent.. very doubtful… they just had to get use to the new coach and HIS system. Now look, Ford Field regulars(losing end much to my dismay)
The DPS league has the most talent in the entire state but it is very rare for a state title team to come out of there. Do you think DCC has the most talent in the state, not by a long shot, but they win title after title. Why? you guessed it.. great coach and a great following and program.
People, anybody who has a little bit of a clue knows that the coach is everything.. because I promise you, the talent is there it just has to be found, make interested and taught how to play.
I would rather watch a team of scrubs with a great coach who teaches them the right way to play than watch a team of all-stars with a coach who has no clue(nothing worse than that)
Now dont get me wrong, it is a very nice thing to have talented players but for the most part these players are there because of the coach. Once that starts to happen then you have what you have at schools like East Grand rapids, Lowell, Rockford, FHH and the like. Success breeds success and the coach is the one who gets it all started.

Huron did make playoffs but it wasn't just because of the lineman, it was because [as per my last comment] they had the offensive back field they needed to put up points, and also had the good D line and backs to stop the opponents offense lol but i will agree that what matters more is the players. the coach only tells them the plays to run, its up to them to execute them to their best.

May be some truth to "kids won't play for the coach" bn, but I would much rather take my chances with a sub par coach and 10-15 talented kids that WANT to play versus a talented coach and 15 sub-par kids. A lot of that attitude comes from these kids home….huron also made the playoffs and had one of their best records in a long time from my understanding I know they had wilson but hurons season last year kinda makes my case…so I guess the question is who makes who….I feel (although slim) the players matter more……rams
"give me 5 -300 monsters for my O line and a couple of athletic linebackers and u could go 9-0 every year……rams"
Huron had that in 2010.. Harris, Morgan, Six, Osier, [ Trav Wecloski was only like 200-250] and they didn't go 9-0.. so i mean, having a big O line means nothing without a good backfield on O..
I completely disagree with you rams. Those 300 pounders won't play for you in this day and age unless a quality coach is at the helm.

The players matter more than the coach in HS football……give me 5 -300 monsters for my O line and a couple of athletic linebackers and u could go 9-0 every year……rams
Marcus was injured last year Dante and Colton is going surprise the league . Watching them practice . Dante not big but smart and fast . Colton haves size and strength .
marcus?? Dante?? never heard of them before..colton cortiss??
bn – I concur….we have evidence of your coaching comment at CC in the HL.
How long did it take JG to install a perennial powerhouse at CC? I hope you're right that Stergalas hits his stride (not really for my Islanders sake), but I just haven't seen it the last 2 years….
So….teeth will grind in the view if this season doen't show marked improvement. They lost some big time players and the coach can't strap it up. We'll see if he can coach em up better than year 1 & 2.
SITOFN
What some fail to realize is the coach is everything in HS football. A great coach can take an absolute scrub program and make it excellent. Riverview by no means has a scrub past. It has a rich past of football excellence. I believe this is Stergalas' 3rd year which is about the time it takes to implement your system fully. I think the View will be 5-4 at the very worst and 7-2 is there for the taking.

Brock salser is still there . They have Marcus ,Dante,Ronald ,javie,Vince ,Chris k , Chris a, Colton. They have people returning
other than gibbons, who do the pirates have coming back?? Turner?? queen?? they lost a TON up front beamish, bosman, salser..?? I just don't see it..unless they had 3 or 4 studs move in? I just don't get it..
I'm with SITOFN on this one… a couple upsets don't make a record, continuous upsets do, which lead to a record which leads to a playoff. If they quit trying to make upsets and play everyday through to the final second, they could do some wonders.

Looks like the fans are suggesting that the Pirates are an unknown. For now lets call it 5-4.

Stergalas has a state championship, how many state titles does Bodner have?
Riverview will perform this year. 7-2 is certainly attainable.

Somebody please show me this amazing coach at Riverview. One upset victory in 2 years does not a contender make….big time losses with the senior class at the view too.3-6 is the count….I see some teeth grinding with Riverview. Savior coach does not seem to be the answer to restoring glory days????SITOFN
I think riverview has a winning season this year. They have a good coaching staff and they should finally get there act together.
I only have cut a couple in the last week.
Did i miss some that should be?
My philosophy on deleting post is if they call somebody out by name or #. I give a little latitude on coaches because they are paid professionals.
Chris, out me every 10 posts how many do you delete because of them being in bad taste?
7-2 with losses to airport and another league member. Key games: @ huron and vs GI.
