Riverview’s Josh Smith must have a great 40 yard dash time.
It was nice to see Flat Rock break their losing streak.
Grosse Ile’s Alex Kish is averaging a staggering 12 yards per carry.
I now owe my boy OC two McNasty burgers.
When was the last time SMCC started 1-3?
It was 1999. They actually had back to back 1-3 starts in 1998 and 1999
Who has the best JV team in the league?
Sorry I didn’t write any game summaries last Friday. Just a little tired.
I plan on being at Grosse Ile/Airport this week.
Tory Martinson showed why he was an all league pick last season at end.
Who is SMCC’s next star?
Was I right by picking Jefferson 8th in the league?
Who is Airport’s MVP?
Oh well heck… haha.. then that changes things for me then. 31- 26
Airport!!!

If you watch the game on the island you'll be all alone. Airport's Homecoming too.
Just asking, it's a great thing to read! Great job with this blog!
The response was not from me. I always put my name to my posts. Sorry.
Working on it. May just have to put up picks then post the previews later tonight, Busy days for me but it beats the alternative.
I normally write on Wednesdays but season premiers of the Middle and Modern Family threw me off.
Having seen both GI and Airport play I would say they are both very evenly matched. If I were to handicap the teams I would say Airport was 2 points better. Since it is being played on the island and I see homefield being worth 3 points in HS football, I would have to give the Red Devils a very very slight advantage. Lets go with GI 28 Airport 27. Obviously in my mind it can go either way.

Craig:
You are correct. Riverview was not in the Huron League 40 years ago. 40 years ago Monroe and Fordson were in the Border Cities League (BCL) and Riverview was not in that league either.
Please read what I said. The top 2 or 3 teams in the Huron League for the past 40 years would destroy the top teams in this year's Huron league, whoever that may have beeneg: Tecumseh, FR, MCC, Blissfield, Jefferson, etc. etc. etc.
Actually the top 5 or 6 teams in the league for the past 40 years would beat this year's top teams.
You can balance all you want, gold or crap both fit on the scales.
No predictions this week Chris?
I would be concerned about GI's defense if i was a GI fan. Instead of getting better as the season goes on, they are getting worse. Giving up over 30 points to an average Milan offense would be cause for alarm. I just don't see GI stopping the best offense they have seen this year.
If we are going to compare teams from 40 years ago, how about this? Riverview wouldn't have bothered to play any of the Huron League teams. Riverview played mostly Class A teams in them days and then moved on to play in the Great Lakes Eight for most of the 70's. The Great Lakes Eight was made up of 7 Class A teams and Riverview, playing anyone in the Huron League would have been a joke, Unless someone is trying to tell me that SMCC and Monroe Jefferson in them days were tougher than Dearborn Fordson or Monroe.
The point is not what was done in other games (SMCC/Erie Mason), the POINT is that if we are going to give accolades on a game by game basis on how good someone is, then if the GOOD player does not do well in a certain game, maybe we should pay attention to the reason why they did not do so good. This isn't about criticizing individuals who have good statistics, but also to recognize that some players play positions that don't have major statistics to refer to.
You forgot to sign, rams.
Hey Craig, you can balance gold and you can balance a load of crap. They are both balanced.
The league talent and league numbers are way down.
The top 2 or 3 teams in this league for the past 40 years would destroy the top teams in the league this year. You would have running clocks at half time period.
I played in this league as did my brothers and cousins and 2 uncles.
That was exactly my point. You say someone is the best cover guy in the league and you base it on one game in which the other team threw less than 10 times but fail to mention that the running back ran wild. SMCC and Mason run the ball all the time and Riverview is pretty much the same way.
shut down smcc's passing attack? i dont even know how to respond to that statement. what passing attack?
Kish's numbers are impressive, they will dip some this week. No MVP for Airport, total team effort. Good call on Jefferson. I agree CC could easily finish 6-3, 5-4 would probably get them in. EM
Well you just mentioned Hernandez so there is his kudos. You forgot to mention that he shut down SMCCs and Erie Masons passing attack too! Milan threw the ball less than 10 times in the game against Huron.
9:12am poster:
Put a name to your garbage. Do not hide behind your anonymous posts. I am tired of hearing the league is down. The league is very balanced, that does not mean it is down. It happens. These close games are making the teams better each week. As far as CC, they are not good this year and it is OK. They just went to the finals 2 years in a row, they are re-building. As far as Riverview NOT making the playoffs, they very well could, this week will be 4 of they beat FR, they play a Milan team that is un utter shambles, a CC team that is struggling and Algonac. That is 6 or 7 wins. Can they beat GI, maybe not. They did something last week that I have not seen in 5 years. They came back after falling behind. They are learning how to win again. They can make the playoffs this year. But even if they don't, a 5-4 record is no to shabby considering the past 5-6 years. And if you are looking at the Jefferson score as comparison, the score could have been 35-7 if it were not for some VERY questionable calls from the refs. Get a clue man. The league is fine. I am tired of hearing this crap every year.
If Martinson of Milan is so good, then why is there no mention of Daniel Hernandez of Huron completely shutting him down, holding him to 0 catches and intercepting a pass covering him one on one. Hernandez is the best cover defensive back in the Huron League and should be recognized for it.
I already have it DVR'd! I wouldn't miss that show for anything.
A huge majority of the kids loved playing for him at Huron and his colorful and believe it or not endearing personality towards his players is the reason why. Old school at it's finest. It should be a hit!
To be honest we all know CC used to recruit, but I'm almost positive they havent in years.
The reality series Wait Till Next Year which follows the awful lincoln park football program will infact be picked up by MTV (although MTV hasn't announced when it will air). Just having old Kalby mic'd up alone will make this show entertaining. What are your thoughts chris, when the show finally airs will you tune in?
The way the league is this year, they may very well end up at 6-3. Then again, they may not win another game either.
They need a new recruiting coordinator, oops, I mean marketing director. I was told that they do not recruit, they market. But you can not complain, they have more Huron League titles than anyone else, by far.
I wouldn't be surprised if SMCC finished at 6-3. They have lost to the two best teams in the league and Plymouth.
SMCC is the pinata of the huron league. Everybody is taking a wack at them.
Week 5 Predictions:
Airport/ Grosse Ile – Could be a toos up, appears to be the 2 frontrunners in a down year for the league. May be a close one, Airport is bigger and more physical, GI has a fast scoring offense potential. Airport in a close one.
Milan / SMCC – We will find out alot about SMCC this week. They are small and not very fast. If Jack does not get them up to play this week, they are toast for the rest of the year. Still not sure what is going on at Milan, but will give Milan a slight nod for this one.
Jefferson / Huron – Jefferson is as poor as they have been in quite some time. Will the Bears roll it up and quit after FR beat them? Is this finally it for Cisco? Huron is still Huron and may find a way to blow this one, but will give the nod to Huron by 2 scores.
Flat Rock / Riverview – It is homecoming time for the Bucs this week. They purposly scheduled it becasue they are very confindent in a win over the Rams. DOn't be too confident View, you are not that good and will not make the playoffs this year. The View in a real close battle.
Airport Seniors benefit from Jones/Shumake combo now that JM has graduated. Brandon Lewis doin it on both sides of the ball. Juniors now back playing with their old QB Potcova who played up the past few years.
The chemistry seems great. Different leaders have stepped up every week. Many intangables that don't make the papers.
Eddings is SMCC leading tackler playing linebacker andn TE
Yea, I missed typed on that one. I obviously knew the answer or I wouldn't have asked it.
I would say Steve Curnett is the strongest back but that is just a hunch. He is an animal in the weight room and is 5-10 205.
my annual thoughts on your thoughts, this is long so hang in there.
Yes he is fast and a physical runner to boot.
Yes very good to see, those kids have suffered enough losing. Marc Cisco hot seat meter off the charts now?
He is very explosive and one of the top backs if not the top back in the league.
inside joke? no comment
1999 to be exact, that team was better offensively but that was a long time ago who cares.
2008 WTH you talking about, last time cc did not win the league title?
Best JV team is probably GI, based on a couple of the scores I've seen but I could be wrong.
Thats ok, the blog will survive without a summary but I hope too see one for the airport GI game.
Good choice, that appears to be the huron league championship game, should be a great atmosphere.
Tory is a big athletic reciever with soft hands, good choice.
SMCC doesnt appear to have any stars. Although you could make a case for Alex McLaughlin, Antonelli and Czarniowski.
Yes, Jefferson is an absolute mess, physically weak and uninspired kids on the team, I hate to say it but it might be time for some changes over there.
Adam Barber? Airport doesnt have an MVP, they work as a T-E-A-M. They are not a bunch of individuals like SMCC.
Another thought I would like to add, the usually accurate Snooze2you from Mlive has his playoff map predictions out, obviously it is way to early and subject to change but if the playoffs were to start today the matchups with huron league teams would be
Airport (3-1) vs Trenton (3-1) Trenton will probly be eliminated from contention as the season goes on but airport should win this game if it did happen
Riverview (3-1) vs Adrian (3-1)
Stergalas hopes this game dont happen, it would not be a good matchup for the pirates, Adrian runs the spread and they chuck the ball around. They are led by talented qb sebastian johnson.
Grosse Ile (4-1) vs Southwestern(3-1)
If they were to play they should win that one, that would be huge for GI's program to get a playoff W but if they did win that game they would probably play crockett in the second round, they beat Toledo CC and that would be a tough game.
I know its still to early yet to talk about playoffs but just throwing it out there.
in 2008 smcc started 5-0 the last time smcc started 1-3 was 1999. good luck to all huron league schools.
