airport gets a little article in the paper for winning the league.. if smcc wins the league and goes undefeated you now there would be pictures and headlines in the paper
You got it….I hope all others will get it eventually, maybe alot less flames.
Prediction: any team who takes this week off in prep for 10th game are assured 2 losses in a row. Conversly, any team that expects improvement and big non-conference wins will likely win 2 straight.
I would have to say he is a little sour because Airport has the only active win streak against GI at 7 in a row.
No View fans, 1 game is not considered a streak.
On another note, I would love to be at that GI/Dundee game, should be a good one. Good luck GI, bounce back and hopefully make a run for district. (04' season repeat?)
Tecumseh/Airport will be a blowout, hopefully we can see Airport pull a few new formations out, (passing game). A district championship would be nice as well. (05' was the last so it's been a while.)
Lots of thin skin out there for sure. Me being the Alex Avila (thats "catcher" for air fans) of most angst is OK with me but it goes with the "the truth hurts" territory. I spit the truth but don't profess hate (maybe on the razors edge with Air…they kinda deserve it).
View…nice win for sure for a team that wanted it more, #22 has what it takes to win, he's a stud. GI played like they already won something and are done wanting to win any more, smelled bad.
Whoaa Jeff, you guys should flame me for sure….great win. SMCC, Jeff stuck the fork in you.
Huron/FR…great game, FR is showing signs of life and Huron avoided the falling apples.
Air…you did what you should have done. CONGRATS on HL title.
Those who suffer defeat should take the abuse in stride and not try to destory and sabotage the jubilation of those who are victorious. Losses taunting and banter build character. It will make those who lost tougher people mentally.
I agree. The purpose of this blog was never to be a sounding board for idiots. Go to mlive for that stuff.
Last night appeared to be a great night for rivalries around the league. Jefferson saves the season and beats SMCCC in OT. Huron saves the season and beats FR in a great game. Riverview continues a great season by beating arch rival GI. Hopefully the league will play well next week in all the non-league contest.
Lots of hatin' going on. Rather than p&*% and moan, or point fingers, or rub it in another's team face, how about decent talk about high school football ? Only saw the View vs GI game, but it was evenly played by two good teams. View won the game. The refs were bad, the field was bad and both sides had starters standing on the sidelines because of injuries.
Congrats to teams heading for the play-offs. For others, play hard the final week and build again for next year.
For those who are old enough to be adults (but sometimes forget), this blog is read by parents, fans and players alike. Try to be better than this crap banter !
Grosse Ile lost straight up…nobody to blame but themselves. Now, with that being said, the officiating was horrible…for both sides. Horrible spot for riverview on 4th and short…anyone with eyes could see that they got the first…missed pass interference calls (both ways)…missed holds (both ways)…i know you can get away with quite a bit on the field…no official is perfect…but those refs seemed like they didnt even want to be out there. Hands in their pockets, heads down, just walking around the field…Like i said, Grosse Ile lost to RIVERVIEW, not the refs, but the zebras out there last night were truly disappointing.
Great game for the Bears. They controlled the whole game. Cc's only score came on a kick return. After a terrible season it was nice to have a win against CC.
Great job to Airport for their league title. Congratulations to Riverview for 2nd place finish and winning back the Colvin Cup. GI in 3rd place – right where Chris's early season prediction had them. All three teams are of equal talent – what put them where they finished was COACHING. Great job to Airport and Riverview coaching in knowing what to get out of your players and by using the talent accordingly – also for making adjustments where needed. GI coaches – next year you might want to use your horses and learn how to make corrections during the game and scout your opponents a bit better. Good luck to all three teams in playoffs – represent the Huron League. All the best to all teams on your final season game.
To start out with, GI is a very good football team. Unfortunately, most of the gi posters here cant see past their team. For ex. 10:57 you can only talk about what gi did wrong, or how they didn't play to their expectations. What really happened was they played a team that lost their fullback and linebacker early, lost a key defensive player with broken wrist, played on same terrible field…get the picture? Haven't heard yet about how they got beat by speed. I saw it on your side when Kish had man coverage from a linebacker. It happened twice. Good call. But I haven't read much about Josh Smith who ran wild on GI defense featuring Kish and White. Around 180 yds. More impressive was stopping White on a sure 3rd qtr run up the middle where he scores in every other game this year. Caught from behind by Smith who remember is a soph. Speed beat you last night not boneheaded lateral passes out of the ez. Again you are a good team, just surprised by the " WE didn't instead of the THEY did"
GI reports all accurate. 1st half OK but not great. 2nd half …. laid an easter egg.
View was better prepared and wanted it more, especially #22 (that little back was a stud)….so is GI satisfied with making the playoffs and now they're taking their ball and going home? Sure looks like it.
Soul searching time for GI coaches and players…..making the playoffs is a goal and congrats on that, but NOT THEEE GOAL!!! DO YOU GET THAT Coach B?
Dundee is gonna clean your clock and you'll limp into the playoffs with your cute pink tape and a red cross truck on the sideline….IF you show up and play again like you did last night at View.
For poster 5:48 a.m., you said: "The field was in horrible shape". Well, it wasn't quite that bad. It is in much better shape than it was for the Flat Rock game. I thought Purniki and Stergalas were gonna go at it. Riverview has kept everyone off the field to let it "heal". No JV, Fresh, or Rec. programs. Although I think that JV and Fresh all had away games scheduled anyway.
And keep in mind BOTH teams had to play on the same field.
Now it will be Shumake as sole winner of OPY. White had one bad game so he is out. That makes Shumake the winner since Kish has been ruled out two games ago using his system…
Way to go Riverview on the win. This post I will give you my take on the loss and my next post will be about the win.
I would agree with both the 10:42 and 10:57 posters…. Grosse Ile had a few mishaps in the first half but was able to leave the field at the half with the lead. Even though White had a couple of fumbles and 3 and outs the Devils were able to leave with the lead. Kish was having a great game moving the ball both on the ground for short yards and as a receiver and on Defense. He scored one long td and should have had another but was stopped on the goal line. Instead of letting the horse run one in after getting it to the line White tried and then fumbled the ball. Nellenbach had minimal touches but also did score. Second half Grosse Ile took the mistakes that they made in the first half and multiplied them by 10. Fumbles, Bad play calling and not using the whole team to try to win the game. When they needed short yards they did not give it to their backs but ended up trying to pass their way and kept on going 3 and out. The GI D would have a great stop against Riverview but then on Offense they do not try to run it to get a cushion from the end zone they threw incomplete passes that led to White throwing the ball away for a safety. After that they were scrambling. The Riverview D kept the pressure on and GI did not adjust.
In the end GI just tried to air up the ball like they did in the Airport game with the same outcome (I scouted that game).
Final notes: The field was in horrible shape
The Riverview O and D played a very solid game for the whole game.
The Riverview play calling the second half out matched GI by far.
The GI O made bad play calls and did not adjust to what was not working.
The GI D was on the field way too long from the bad O scheme–
10:42 poster, uh you said 4 things led to the Riverview win, and posted 3. I'm guessing 4. would be #22. That kid did not leave the field. The huge play was a safety, not a touch back. From that point on, Riverview rolled, and GI decided 5-2 in the Huron league was good enough. The islanders are sure quiet since they were going to roll big if it didn't rain, and while it sprinkled in the warm ups, no such rain came. Congrats to the Pirates who were given a ton of question marks this year and left for middle of the pack to bottom dwellers. This team never had won before this year, but stuck it out and came together. The unstoppable GI offense was non-existant 2nd half, posting under 100 yds offense and NO points.
Well GI parents, the weather was fine for the riverview gi game. It came down to who was the better team that could handle adversity and make the half time adjustments needed. Gi wins by running around you and throwing over you, couldn't handle getting hit tonight at Lesner Field.
I don't know who to fell sorry for tonight. SMCC or SITOFN. Nah, karma is a beautiful thing, and it will always come back in your face sooner or later. Enjoy it.
GI led 21-14 at the half. GI QB and offense were pretty good, but not nearly as good as advertised. In the 2rd quarter the GI QB made a bad decision and threw the ball out of the side of the endzone to avoid a sack…. Riverview gets a safety and then scores on their possession and adds a 2 point conversion. It's now 24-21 just like that. After that GI seemed to get desperate, QB just chucked the ball every play and went 3 and out. This was still in the 3rd quarter and they were only down by 3. At one point in the 4th quarter they were 3rd and 32 after penalties. Then they gave Riverview a 1st down after roughing the punter. They just fell apart as soon as Riverview went on top and could not catch up.
Someone once posted on here "SMCC dosen't need any talented players because we have a system that works". Well you were wrong pal. The system didn't work. Your NOT in the playoffs. Your done. Enjoy your forfited win next week. Great job Bears!
SMCC is down and out for the count. Didnt the week 9 opponent forfeit. What a tough way to end the season, a loss to a big rival and they dont get a chance to redeem themselves next week. Ouch
Congrats to Airport on your 1st outright league championship in 8 years. Nice win Jefferson, CC's playoff hopes are officially dead. Looks like Riverview might be home for round 1, what happened to your boys SITOFN? EM
airport wins the league with a 48-14 blowout of milan. milan's defense didn't show up and the offense had too many turnovers.Airport's running game was too strong. Good game by the jets the team deserves the title.
Great game at Jefferson. Came down to the extra point. SMCC had a penalty on Jeffersons extra point attempt, so they went for 2. SMCC was forced to do the same when they had the ball. Didn't make it, the difference in the game. What a great boost to a rather rough year at Jefferson. Freshman won Thursday also. Took 2 of 3 from SMCC.
But it's not my birthday……
I would like to buy SITOFN a cake.
If you look up the definition of infatuation it means – "being completely carried away by unreasoned passion or love"
You Air fans have it all wrong…..
SITOFN really just loves you…..

SITOFN
SITOFN's infatuation with Airport is extremely bizarre. What gives?

Why is it no matter what week, who's playing, SITOFN has something to say about Air? It gets pretty old hearing it.
Downriverer…Yep.
1:46……….Yep.
Lots of thin skin out there for sure. Me being the Alex Avila (thats "catcher" for air fans) of most angst is OK with me but it goes with the "the truth hurts" territory. I spit the truth but don't profess hate (maybe on the razors edge with Air…they kinda deserve it).

GI football wishes all the huron league teams a win against our non conference games. Good luck in your first playoff games two weeks from now.

Listen to u kids cry and argue over OPY. Sheesh, whoever wins, kish, white or shumake will be worthy. Does view have any worthy seniors?
Great game by the bears, true rivalry.

Hey SITOFN,
Huron 21 FR 14; Riverview 31 GI 21; how do you like them apples? How many 15 yarders did you islanders yak this week?

What a great night in the Huron League…Jefferson and the View bring it home… Congrats Airport…

GI fans…..please do not throw your cakes into the Detroit River. The seagulls do not react well to sugar!

SMCC and SITOFN…..bawhahahahah
Grosse Ile Riverview game was good. GI was winning at the half. Four things led to the Riverview win.
1. Bad play calling. GI was completely out coached the second half. BAD play calling by the GI staff.
2. White had probably the worst game that I have seen the last 3 years. Several fumbles and a huge play that led to a touchback
3. Riverview O played well. Kept the GI D out on the field way too long. Which led to penalties (some questionable both ways)
