Riverview enters the 2022 season as the two-time defending champs of the Huron League. The Pirates suffered heavy graduation losses from 2021 and will need a young core to step up if the Pirates are to win another league title.
Head Coach: Derek McLaughlin (Entering 9th Year Overall Record 56-25)
Coaching Staff: Erick Southward, Nick Gross, Matt Giarmo, Nolan Glime, Rob McCaslin, Chris Haut, Jason Dodd and Vince Maharas
Returning letter winners: 17
Returning starters offense (3): Center – Gabriel Landskroener, LT – Hunter Diley, LG – Gavin Labadie
The Pirates will continue to run their ball possession T offense which should take pressure off of the defense. While the offense appears to lack a home run hitter, there is plenty of grit to get the 3 yards and a cloud of dust (I know they have turf) to move the sticks and win games.
Returning Starters Defense (3): DB – Jacob Shank, DT – Austin Lipchik, DT – Gabriel Landskroener
The defense gave up a solid 18 ppg last season, but must replace their top 3 tacklers from a season ago. Look for players like Landskroener, Werling, Lockhart and Lipchick to pick up on defense for the Pirates.
Names to look out for: DB/RB – Anthony Bowman, LB/RB – Zach Werling, LB/RB – Max Lockhart, LB/RB – Nathan Pinkava, Lucas Thompson 10 DB/QB, Ian Adams 10 DB/RB
Coach’s Outlook: Most of the teams from last year are returning a lot of players, except for us, I feel many teams will be greatly improved from last year.
FNV Outlook: Riverview lost a ton to graduation, but Coach Mac has built a solid program and the Pirates are one of the favorites to win the Huron League again. We should know where the Pirates stand after 3 weeks which includes games with Divine Child and Huron
GO BUCS!!!!!!!!
