Meet the Millington Cardinals

The Millington Cardinals are having a historic season, currently holding a perfect 13-0 record as they march towards the state finals for the first time in school history. Coached by Jason Germain, a longtime staple of the program, the Cardinals have established themselves as one of the most consistent and competitive teams in Michigan high school football. This marks the 36th consecutive winning season for Millington football, and the team has made the playoffs for 21 straight years.

Jason Germain, who has been a part of the program since 1999, is in his third year as the head coach and also serves as the school’s Athletic Director. His deep connection to the Millington Cardinals is evident, and the team’s success this season is a direct reflection of his dedication and experience. Millington is in their first year in the Big Thumb Conference and won the White Division this season.

Millington has made the state semifinals seven times over the years but has never advanced to the finals—until now. Their remarkable journey to the state championship includes impressive victories over several tough opponents, including three playoff teams during the regular season: Cass City, Elkton-Pigeon-Bayport, and Reese. In the playoffs, the Cardinals have continued their dominant run, defeating Elkton-Pigeon-Bayport, Cass City, Pewamo-Westphalia, and North Muskegon to reach the finals.

The 2024 Cardinals roster is led by a strong senior class, with 16 seniors who play pivotal roles on both sides of the ball. Senior quarterback Truk TerBush has been nothing short of outstanding, showcasing his dual-threat ability. TerBush has thrown for 1,420 yards and 21 touchdowns while also rushing for 520 yards and 11 touchdowns, proving to be a key asset for the team’s offensive success. He has been complemented by an explosive backfield, led by senior running back Tevon Walsh, who leads the team in rushing with 1,411 yards and 17 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 9.4 yards per carry. Walsh has been a workhorse for the Cardinals all season long. Fellow senior running back Landon Russell has also been a standout, rushing for 735 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging a jaw-dropping 16 yards per carry, adding another layer to the team’s offensive attack.

The Cardinals’ senior receiving corps has been equally formidable, with Bryce Martin, Owen Kreger, and Brevin Hendricks all playing crucial roles. Hendricks, standing tall and athletic, leads the trio with seven of the team’s 17 combined receiving touchdowns, demonstrating his ability to make plays in the red zone. Martin and Kreger have also contributed significantly, with each of them catching multiple touchdown passes throughout the season.

On defense, the Cardinals have been equally strong, with senior linebacker Landon Germain leading the way with 80 tackles. Landon is the youngest son of head coach Jason Germain, and his leadership on defense has been critical to the team’s success. Walsh, who is a two-way player, also contributes to the defense with 76 tackles, providing stability in the secondary. Juniors Logan Myers and Chase Milostan have also been standout defenders, helping anchor a defense that has been relentless all season.
