SMCC Defeats Riverview in the Battle of Unbeatens

In a thrilling matchup of unbeaten, run-first football teams, the St. Mary Catholic Central Falcons took down the Riverview Pirates 34-15, securing their first win over Riverview since the 2019 season.

The game started off with Riverview receiving the opening kickoff, but their drive was quickly halted when Falcons’ Ben Carter forced a fumble, recovering the ball at their 48-yard line. This turnover set the tone for the night, as Riverview’s offense would go on to commit two more [1).

The Falcons capitalized on the mistake, with quarterback Ian Foster connecting with Joel Treece for a 28-yard touchdown pass. Drew Harris added the extra point, giving SMCC an early 7-0 lead. Riverview responded quickly, however, with Ashton Robinson breaking 59 yards in just four plays, followed by a successful two-point conversion to take the lead 8-7.

But the Falcons’ special teams unit was on fire, with sophomore Jack Fox returning a kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown, and Lukas Linzell adding another kickoff return score to start the second half. The Falcons’ offense was led by Drew Harris, who rushed for 58 yards on 8 carries, and Brady Hines, who contributed 54 yards on 6 carries with 2 touchdowns.

The Falcons’ defense was equally impressive, with Brady Hines leading the charge with 12 tackles, a sack, and two deflected passes. Lukas Linzell and Brock Cousino also made key contributions, with 4 and 3 tackles, respectively.

Next week, the Falcons will host Flat Rock in their first-ever Military Appreciation Night, Riverview will play Milan.

  • Gotta say I was wrong about CC. They are fast physical, strong And they just fly around they all love contact… gotta be favourites to win D7 in my opinion now good luck on the rest of the season fly high Falcons

  • That smcc defense is the best ive seen in the HL in a while . Cc’s linebackers are stacked as they have Cousino, Linzell, Price, Reinhardt etc. Its gonna be hard to get past that defense come November. Passing defense is a little choppy but always room for improvement
    . D line is a little undersized but scrappy and they love to be physical. Jack Starner might be the best D tackle in the league, and add Brady hines and Ben carter who are two physical big and fast d ends. Safeties love to fly up. Love the football the falcons have been playing lately and i cant wait to see what is in store for them in the Playoffs. Go Falcons!!!
